The royal family

Why do Harry and Meghan tell porkies that are so easy to prove wrong?

YaMuvva · 28/05/2024 15:44

Starting with the porkie that Archie wasn’t gonna be titled. Anyone who understands the Letters Patent would know that as long as the Queen was alive this was never gonna happen. I said this when watching the Oprah interview and I’m pretty appalled they told such an easily provable lie.

Then Harry said that daddy cut his security off. Anyone who knows about RAVEC knows it is independent of the Royal Family and Charles couldn’t do this if he tried. Same with “Only titled people get security” / this was so easy to prove wrong.

And why are there 2 versions of the proposal story. Did they think we wouldn’t notice? Is one a Hollywood version for their American audience?

The same with the ‘how they met’ story - in their engagement interview they said it was a blind date, to Netflix they met on Instagram.

I also was puzzled at her saying she never wore bright colours and that royal women could never wear the same colour as the Queen. It’s just nonsense. See below pictures.

Why do they do this? My theory is that everything they do now is for an American audience who are used to the reality TV narrative of “Some scenes have been created for entertainment” style TV and just accept their narrative as partly fictional, as long as it’s entertaining?

The same with the ‘how they met’ story - in their engagement interview they said it was a blind date, to Netflix they met on Instagram.

In his biography he says she was a friend of a friend and he saw her photo on their Instagram and asked the friend to introduce them…

Harry has never said he is ND, stop making things up.

Mooda · 28/05/2024 16:21

My son's first word was 'strawberry'. It was really odd but he just came out with it. He said it 'dor-bree' but that's what it was. 'Crocodile' no more or less likely than that, bit bizarre to claim it's a lie - how on earth would you know?

So true. I’ve heard reports of kids saying all sorts of words for their first word.

BlueJamSandwich · 28/05/2024 16:30

It's a fairly common last word.

😂😂😂

IdoldeWagner · 28/05/2024 16:32

It's a strange situation really. Why lie at all, but why run the risk of serious embarrassment when it's so easy to check?
Didn't she lie to the court about not cooperating with Finding Freedom?
It's all very murky and unpleasant. It's just become so habitual now.

SirChenjins · 28/05/2024 16:33

Wait - rewind. Harry’s ND??! When did he drop that one?

He didn’t I think someone just made it up out of thin air.

IdoldeWagner · 28/05/2024 16:36

Mishal Husain has no idea why they would say that they had to spin things for the tv engagement interview. She says they were absolutely allowed free rein about what they said.
Why would they tell stories for that interview then completely contradict themselves.

Another day another boring let's slag Harry and Meghan off thread. Seriously why are people even giving this headspace?

He didn’t I think someone just made it up out of thin air.

Around the time Spare came out he did an interview with Gabe Mate (I think that's his name?). I didn't see it because you had to pay but iirc it was reported that Mate said he had read the book and Harry had ADHD. So someone diagnosed reading a book, rather than using actual medical protocol, but it was said. I think that is what the PP is referring to.

Personally I don't think he has ADHD, I think he has Entitled Spare Syndrome (see also Andrew)

FanofLeaves · 28/05/2024 16:38

Really? You think it’s believable that an infant can enunciate the three syllable word ‘crocodile’ which is pretty sophisticated pronunciation for very small children, especially the ‘cr’ which would come out as ‘cw’ for the vast majority. I have a very bright toddler who was an early talker myself but come on. I don’t count the first word as one that the parents know what the child is trying to say, I count it as a clear and obvious pronunciation that others could hear and understand too.

Yes I do think it was a lie, just a random boast probably, but I’m also going to remember this is Mumsnet so I’m waiting for someone to post that their child’s first word was ‘conservatory’ or ‘restaurant’ or something like that.

So...are you going to actually engage with the discusssion? Are you going to address the OP's question? Argue each point logically and convincingly?

No? Just the usual 'why do you care?' line.

Contributors here are fascinated by the absolute brass neck of these two public figures and we're allowed to discuss them. And so are you - if you have anything informative to add!

In Spare he talks about seeing William and Kate’s Kensington Palace apartment for the first time with Meghan and being embarrassed about his own living arrangements because it was so wonderfully decorated - ‘like a museum’ is the phrase used.

This is an odd story because;

  • he’d been pictured in their apartment with the Obamas previously so had definitely seen the decor before
  • he’d told Ant and Dec in an interview that he used to nip over to William’s to raid the fridge because they always had food in
  • he knew that W&K used to live in Nottingham Cottage for the first two years of their marriage so had been in exactly the same type of accommodation as him
  • the phrase ‘like a museum’ is so odd because he’s grown up living in palaces, castles and mansions - why was it such a surprise that they had decorated it much like his father has with Clarence House or the monarchs many other residences?

Because they're the gift that just keeps giving

Ahh, ok. I think the world and his dog would have known about it by now if he was - Spare would not have spared us the details 😂

changeison · 28/05/2024 16:50

befuddled bemused and bewildered that people are still standing up for these two jokers!

LunaNorth · 28/05/2024 16:51

I reckon it wasn’t ‘crocodile’ at all. I reckon Archie’s dad read the first draft of ‘Spare’ to him and Archie said ‘crock o’ shite’.

They have said a whole lot of things that are patently untrue but I do know people who do this in IRL. I’m not talking about embellishing or exaggerating a fact or a story or making something up to gain an advantage but saying something that very obviously isn’t the case. I have always found it really puzzling and confusing as to why people do this.

I am coming to the conclusion that they twist the facts so much to present themselves in what they think is a better light that they genuinely forget the actual truth.

"The same with the ‘how they met’ story - in their engagement interview they said it was a blind date, to Netflix they met on Instagram"

If I'm being extremely generous, then they may have had a first "virtual meeting" on insta, then had a first "proper meeting" (a proper date[ that was arranged through a friend. It wouldn't have been a "blind" date, but the term gets mis-used when a third party brings a couple together.

As for "crocodile" as a baby's first word... well with a babbling baby that sequence of phonemes could feasibly just come out by accident. Once my seven month-old baby said "Adelaide, at a later date" purely by accident in the manner of the monkey-typewriter-bible scenario. Sounds were coming out at random and the Adelaide comment was preceeded and followed by a lot of babyish nonsense. That was possibly the case with Archie.

But other than those two concessions, yeah lots of shameless lies and silly exaggerations.

In Spare he says she was a friend of a friend, he saw her photo on their Instagram and the friend introduced them via Instagram so they messaged on there first.

Yea she forgot she brief her staff member on what to say to Omid Scobie.

I mean that’s a pretty bold lie to tell

I felt so bad for Mishal because she’s an incredibly professional woman who conducted a really lovely interview and Meghan had the nerve to say it was an “orchestrated reality show” (whilst in a Netflix show, irony), because “we had to rehearse the questions”. Well of course you had to rehearse it, it would be very unfair to bot allow you to prepare
