I wonder how many people had eyes on the letter before it was leaked, can't be many surely?

what letter has been leaked now. I can’t see anything?

And she knows it. He’s absolutely besotted and obsessed with her, even though he can’t see that at times it can be toxic. He is terrified of losing her. She knows this too.

She is in a position of total power over him, alienated from his family, his friends, his country, she holds all the cards and the two biggest ones are his children, I don’t think he would ever emotionally recover if she decided to move on from him, it would be an absolute train wreck which would make the War of the Wales’s look like a Mills and Boon novel, she would come out of it smelling of roses, Harry I honestly dread to think.

I suspect there is stuff about Meghan that the RF and possibly security services are sitting on. If it gets nasty I suspect any information will be used as a bargaining chip. Whether Meghan cares is another matter.

I hope they don’t split as I think would break him and they have young children.

Your imperial majesty...does this guy have an empire?

AnnieSF · 02/06/2024 22:54

There is no sign that the marriage is on the rocks.

Yes, sometimes they look less than loved-up, but that's pretty normal after 6 years of marriage.

They have 2 small DC, and Harry before the wedding talked several times of how much he longed for fatherhood.

Even though it's easy to see both how many mis-steps they have made in their public/working lives and also just how inaccurate their accounts can be (in books, interviews and documentaries); I very much hope that behind closed doors there is an enduring family unit

Me too actually.

I don't think so.

As far as I'm aware from my limited education, 'imperial' derives from imperator - i.e. Latin, ancient Rome. The meaning changed over time from commander to ruler, as the Roman Republic became an Empire under Augustus.

No idea how it's used and perceived as an English term with Latin etymology in Nigeria.

I know there are some historians on this board who might be able to offer their insights as to its use in this context.

BemusedAmerican · 03/06/2024 04:32

@Abouttimeforanamechange Thanks for the link! I love that march.

Yes, "imperial" refers to empires. She is writing to what I would consider a minor king.

As an American, I do find her obsequious tone disturbing. She has evidently moved on from running for public office in the US. Perhaps she can run for office in Nigeria.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/06/2024 05:35

Perhaps she can run for office in Nigeria. I know this is a bit tongue in cheek. I can’t imagine them living in Nigeria, especially with their kids. Legally the King is their guardian. If the plane en route to Nigeria touched down on uk soil, however unlikely, it is my understanding that Charles could prevent the onward journey. I also cannot imagine a public there voting for her.

upinaballoon · 03/06/2024 07:39

"We look forward to coming back home one day soon." Right.

She had the option of leaving that sentence out. It's rather 'committing'.

MummyJ12 · 03/06/2024 07:49

Just a little fashion update.
Thoughts are that Meghan was merching her wardrobe on the visit so I thought I’d check if the dresses had ‘sold out in seconds’ as her fans seem to think everything does that she wears.
Only checked on two of the more memorable ones. Both of the dresses are fully available still in every size and one has gone into the sale. It seems that Meghan just doesn’t have the popularity, influence or star power to make this happen for her and the designers obviously.

I don't think people are buying it because it wasn't modelled very well, all creased and too long .

AnnieSF · 03/06/2024 09:22

@MummyJ12 that whole dress is just bizarre on the website. The external black zip - very much a thing of the past. The fold over waistband - what the heck is that? The thing looks like a bad home dress making session after too many glasses of wine. The odd lines and seams make it look as if underwear is visible.

I hadn’t realised it was made of silk either. How impractical is that for a school visit? A flesh coloured, overly long nearly backless dress made of delicate fabric 🙄

Thedom · 03/06/2024 09:43

The close up looks awful, she must have been sponsored to wear those clothes, they are all dreadful. The zebra dress was so unattractive and looked cheap.

The nicest outfit she wore was the traditional skirt and white shirt.

MummyJ12 · 03/06/2024 09:47

It’s not a great dress, I agree @AnnieSF unbelievably, the designer put it back on the website at a hugely inflated price as it was previous season. (In that colour). Also, as an attempt to make it look like the dress had sold out because Meghan had worn it, the designer put the dress back online with a sold out/pre-order status. This was misleading as it had not even been on sale this year in the blush! The black one that had been available at half the price, was removed from the website. A blatant attempt at ripping people off but it’s backfired as no one wants the dress because it’s not a good piece and it didn’t fit Meghan well, it was way too long.
I prefer the Johanna Ortiz Tropicana nights dress but it’s interesting that no one seems to be buying it. Maybe Meghan wearing something puts off prospective customers? In which case this does not bode well for the ARO endeavour. As Meghan is proving not to be as influential as she would hope to be (or believes herself to be). She will actually have the opposite effect on sales.
If I was a designer therefore, I would want to make sure she wasn’t seen in my work for this reason. judging from what we’ve seen here. A bit like when Tom Ford stopped selling Gucci to Posh Spice because he thought it was damaging to the brand!

Thedom · 03/06/2024 09:47

Funny how their efforts to get Peace Air to remove any reference to them has not been leaked. I wonder if their lawyers have any clout in Nigeria.

Was this 'Imperial excellency' the one who was deported from the US after doing jail time for fraud ?

3peassuit · 03/06/2024 10:01

Is that letter genuine? Even for Meghan, it’s cringeworthy.

The video of them at the airport returning from Nigeria gave me the impression that these are two people who are very much not in love and who fake it when they know the cameras are rolling.

I saw two reactions to that
a) you can't see her face, that's not Meghan, it's all a filthy smear
b) she was rushing because she couldn't wait to see her DC

Not sure if either of those is true.

But I don't think being a few steps apart when disembarking from a plane after along flight is a terribly good indicator of matrimonial happiness

I don’t get why anyone would read anything into that snap. It’s a moment in time, they are just off a long haul flight, will be jet lagged, it says nothing about their marriage, other than she was prob knackered and rushing and he was prob knackered and lagging behind.

AliceOlive · 03/06/2024 12:05

Regarding the letter, so many things take on a different tone when shared publicly. Like the Harry and Meghan palm trees. It could be a very sweet exchange when shared privately between spouses, but when presented to the world it no longer feels the same. Performative. Like photos produced only to share on instagram.

3peassuit · 03/06/2024 12:12

It’s the expression “deeply humbled” I find a wee bit galling. There is nothing in the Sussex’s recent behaviour that suggests humility.

shenandoahvalley · 03/06/2024 13:08

The blush dress is extremely difficult to wear. Silk is so unforgiving, every lump and bump and any underwear shows. In that regards, Meghan wore it well. She has no lumps or bumps (I don't want to think about her or anyone else's underwear).

The colour, ironically (to me, at least) only suits the darkest of skins. Otherwise it's just too close to flesh coloured and looks "off" or meh. I can imagine it being the last remaining colour to sell.

The Joanna Ortiz dress has removable straps. It's the same dress as the Hertz gold dress, which I'm guessing also had removable straps and was midi-length. The gold one was indeed merching (it was no coincidence that they drove into the event in a motorcade (which they needed for appearances, and/or to give credence to the near catastrophic car chase which subsequently didn't ensue) which happened to alight at the Hertz office, which was emblazoned in the corporate colours. A couple of grand for the dress is 10 days' family car rental in Manhattan for Hertz, I think Hertz won that one). I'm pretty sure she will have received this one on terms too, she looked great in the gold one. This one was better suited to a beach location, not city wear imo and I don't think she did it justice this time.

My DD has skinny legs, like Meghan's (but without the short torso). She looks her absolute best in trousers, jeans, shorts. I think the same goes for Meghan. My DD does have a waist and bum and boobs too, but she's narrow so she looks like floor-length curtains in long dresses. I think the same goes for Meghan. She looks great in trousers (not so much shorts imo) and mid-length dresses with heels.

For one half of a couple who referred to the Commonwealth as 'Empire 2.0' she's certainly changed her tune. Perhaps it depends on who the 'imperial majesty' is.
