Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

But her engagement ring is "the most-searched celebrity engagement ring in the world"?????

I agree - it’s a bit much but sometimes magazines have to find content to fill their pages and this is some sort of content I guess.

I don't remember her ring being that unusual in design. But I thought Diana's ring was hideous and have always felt sorry for Catherine having to lug it around, so what do I know!

One of Misan Harriman's photos of Meghan and Harry has just been added to the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London!

Misan was the photographer who did the pic of the couple under a tree when Meghan was pregnant, and also the super-cute pic of baby Princess Lilibet with her red hair. He also accompanied the couple to Nigeria where he took a load of lovely photos, including one of Harry holding hands with an injured vet in a hospital, that is apparently reminiscent of Princess Diana doing something similar.

All good stuff!

"Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the 46-year-old confirmed that a black-and-white photograph of the royal couple had been added to their permanent collection. The stunning photograph captured Harry and Meghan holding hands as they looked dead ahead.
"I am humbled and proud to announce that my portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is now part of the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery," Misan shared. "Dare to dream folks!"
Fans were quick to congratulate the star, as one penned: "I am so proud of you. You didn't listen to naysayers, you followed your heart, set goals and continue to achieve. I have huge respect for how you stand for equality, equity and you do it with integrity. You’re a wonderful role model to us all and I love seeing you succeed."
Misan is a close friend of the Duke and Duchess and the royal couple allowed him to take photographs of their daughter, Princess Lilibet, when the young girl marked her first birthday."

Well deserved! It is actions like this that helps to negate the toxic environment created by the tabloid press in the UK regarding Harry and Meghan.

Meghan’s engagement ring making waves globally is also amazing! More than twice the interest than the second most popular one.

It’s such a striking picture. He really has an excellent eye and portfolio for someone who has been doing this for such a short period of time.

Clothes all wrinkled so very apt!

Now this one is just a bit weird...

I know many people are OBSESSED with Meghan. But her engagement ring is "the most-searched celebrity engagement ring in the world"?????

Geez, some people really have too much time on their hands! 😆

"More than six years after Prince Harry's proposal, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring continues to captivate attention.
The Duchess of Sussex’s three-stone diamond sparkler is the most-searched celebrity engagement ring in the world, according to a new study from U.K. jeweler Ramsden’s Jewellery. The findings analyzed global search volume data from the past 12 months, and an aggregated average revealed that Meghan’s ring drove about 51,283 searches a month.
Second on the list was Princess Diana's iconic sapphire and diamond ring, which Meghan's sister-in-law Kate Middleton wears today, with 22,100 average global monthly searches, followed by Megan Fox, Millie Bobby Brown and Hailey Bieber in the top five."

It's not really weird though is it? There were people on here ( not a fan site) salivating about earrings and saying they were going on their birthday or Christmas list whichever it was. You have to therefore assume that fans will do this.

Wow! Yeah!
And it only took her third attempt at an engagement ring to make such waves.
If only Harry had got it right the first time, eh?

RedRosesPinkLilies · 24/05/2024 20:04

@LaMarschallin too true! I feel sorry for Harry - first red flag - you’re ring isn’t good enough

Overtheatlantic · 24/05/2024 20:13

“You’re “ grammar isn’t good enough to be criticising anyone else.

“You’re “ grammar isn’t good enough to be criticising anyone else.

You've had trouble yourself with "Megan" vs "Meghan".
I'm sure you know these things can happen.

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 24/05/2024 20:23

The thing is Meghan's engagement ring ( in whatever iteration) was created much more recently than Diana's and Meghan has been in the news much more over the past year than Diana or Catherine, so it's not surprising it's searched for more.

Diana's engagement ring was plastered all over all the papers and magazines and TV when she got engaged and massively influenced engagement ring fashion at the time, there must be so many women of a certain age with the sapphire and diamond engagement ring, albeit on a smaller scale. It also came to prominence again when Catherine got engaged. It was a memorable ring, whether or not it was your style. I bet many more people could describe Diana's ring than could describe Meghan's.

If the internet had been around in Diana's time the number of searches would have undoubtedly been hugely far higher than those for Meghan's.

RedRosesPinkLilies · 24/05/2024 20:47

@Overtheatlantic
I must have touched a nerve, when you are bringing up grammar mistakes in the days of auto correct. Thanks for the opinion, not.

Beautiful independent young biracial American woman comes over to the UK to be welcomed into the aristocracy as a bride to untold wealth and fortune.

Don’t think I’ve seen it:

Wickedlywearynamechanged · 25/05/2024 02:50

Oh that “The invitation” The one where the wealthy UK family turn out to be blood sucking vampires.

DelectableMe · 25/05/2024 11:21

That's not quite true, is it? Harriman has submitted it to the NPG. They get a lot of submissions. They have yet to evaluate, catalogue it and decide whether or not it will go on display.

And this up there with the some of the greatest Royal photos ever. As for "steel" we have a first person recollection vs some random photo from the internet.

The umbrella shot is Sam Hussein, not Misan Harriman, though. Sam has a fabulous eye for composition.

DelectableMe · 25/05/2024 12:07

That is definitely a good picture, the colour and the composition are great. I'm not a fan of the Harriman pictures - they're always in black and white, which I find a bit dull and his manipulation isn't always great. Photographers nowadays digitally alter pictures, of course they do, but he seems to somehow make them look a bit lifeless.
Anyway, all portraiture is subjective.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 25/05/2024 12:11

I am vastly entertained by how excited some people are that Meghan has 'won' the 'Internet Searches For Vulgar Engagement Rings' Olympics. Will there be an award ceremony, I wonder? I bet her 'people' are on it as we speak.

Serenster · 25/05/2024 12:28

I think a lot of people - both the “grudging” you refer to and the very excited posters on MN might be missing the whole point of the National Portrait gallery?

As the national museum responsible for the history of British Portraiture its mission is to maintain a collection of portraits of the most eminent persons in British history. They welcome offers of gifts to their collection, to further their mission.

It already has quite a collection of Prince Harry (starting from what he was a baby) and of Meghan, including wedding and engagement shots - you can see them in the link below.

So it’s not like Misan Harriman was filling a gap in the collection. Perhaps he wants to be able to put the fact that he has a photo in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery on his CV? Or maybe he just really likes the shot of them and thinks it shuould be preserved for posterity? Who would know.

DelectableMe · 25/05/2024 12:33

Also, @Serenster , we've yet to see if the NPG consider it to be worth displaying.
They get a lot of submissions and have to decide which to catalogue and display.

LaMarschallin · 25/05/2024 12:36

I love the umbrella shot. It's the sort of picture that has to be taken in the moment by someone with an excellent eye. It's absolutely joyous and makes me smile when I see it, despite not being enamoured of its subjects.
The photo of them in profile is technically very good, I'm sure, but there's the advantage of being able to take - and tweak - numerous shots in a posed photo.
The first thing that one made me think of was the profiles taken of the monarch for currency and stamps.

Wickedlywearynamechanged · 25/05/2024 12:46

Interesting article from Newscorp, Australia arm, FirmBiscuit. thank you for posting the link.

To delve into royal Twitter these days (look, I just can’t bring myself to call it X) is to be submerged in a toxic soup of conspiracy theories about the duchess especially, with her generally painted as being Catherine de Medici done up in Carolina Herrera. (How long until someone accuses the duchess of trying to poison her foes à la ol’ Catherine?)

So true. I spent quite a few hours reading that part of Twitter, ‘royal Twitter, recently - just a look, see - and it’s insanity. It’s also leaked out of Twitter unfortunately.

The extreme, extreme polarisation of the discourse and conversation around the royal family, including the Sussexes, has gotten to such an exaggerated sense- and logic-free point where Meghan could single-handedly bring peace to the Middle East and she would be lambasted for failing to have fixed Taiwan and China too.

Yes. The anti Meghan rhetoric is extreme.

Imagine posters//twits haranguing the Save The Children charity. That’s downright mean and nasty. And fucking madness. Extremism.
