Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

No the Croydon face lift is the severe pulled back without a parting

Yup.
And I understand your daughter's horror. A Croydon face lift isn't exactly aspirational.

Oh my god, she'd hate that! She's a professional young woman, the only woman of colour in her section and takes pride in her appearance. She has 3b hair, which takes a lot of care and management, so sometimes a low bun is the way to go! Not the Croydon way, though.

DeftLemonDog · 18/07/2024 07:45

So many celebrities have been wearing the severe hair parting and bun look. It’s just a hair trend at the moment. You have to have the bone structure and face shape for it, of course. Meghan has that.

Spectre8 · 18/07/2024 07:27

Well here in my part of the UK that severe parting is often coined rhe croydon face-lift. So maybe it's got nothing to do with copying some other famous person.

It’s a horrible, classist term against poor women. Why on earth do you think Meghan would be emulating it? 🫤

DelectableMe · 18/07/2024 07:49

I agree, I think it's just a hair trend. I don't think it's flattering, but a lot of fashions aren't. I don't think she's stupid enough to model herself on Wallis Simpson.

Common women, not poor women. Classist, yes I agree.

I’d say the lines are blurry, but happy to agree to disagree.

Maybe not.
But according to DeftLemonDog: "it's just a hair trend at the moment."
So lots of people copying each other.

Ohpleeeease · 18/07/2024 07:57

On the money issue, I think it’s a two edged sword. Charles was extremely generous to Meghan, her clothing budget was ridiculous.

However he’s also been quite controlling with money where William and Harry were concerned, it’s a way of keeping them in line without confrontation. Even H admitted W had to take some flak for being workshy when in fact he wanted to do more but was limited by the funding made available to him.

I wonder if this was behind the plan for the Sussexes to become financially independent. The way they did it, and the sheer greed is appalling, but I can understand the desire to be free from financial control.

sorry for derail.

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 18/07/2024 08:04

I don’t agree that Meghan has the face or bone structure for that look. It isn’t a hair trend that I’m seeing although it has been.

This look makes her features look pointy and harsh.

She needs something softer.

I think the same. She's ended up with a ski-jump shaped pointy nose and her jaw seems heavier than it used to be. Not sure what would do that?
It doesn't stop her being very pretty indeed though.
But we were always going to get the knee-jerk Meghan-is-absolutely-beautiful-and-everything-suits-her trope.
I'm just surprised there weren't ten heart-eye emojis following the post.

Well, I'm going to out myself as being really old-fashioned and boring but I nearly always yearn for how celebrities looked before they had work done (anyone from pretty young Katie Price, to adorable young Michael Jackson to Meghan).

Of course the current Meghan is a very attractive woman, but she's changed her nose (apparently to resemble Julia Roberts) and of course, done strange things (which I'm very ignorant about) to her hair. I thought she was lovely in the post-partum pics with Archie, personally. But I know they all like to be super-thin because the camera is said to put on 10 lbs.

As to the other aspect of her look which has been mentioned here, I wonder if she's using Ozempic? God knows, she doesn't need to, but I don't know what else would explain that change to her jawline and general bone-structure.

She still looks good, obviously...in Hollywood terms...but I like a more natural look!

Quite.
This was the photo that made me wonder about her jaw (think I saw it in a post on here originally, but a quick Google found it in the Express):

Maybe it's more that she looks like she's having difficulty closing her lips over her teeth.
New veneers?

Meghan Markle sends clear signal on how she feels about Prince Harry | Royal | News | Express.co.uk

Meghan Markle subtly altered her behaviour at the ESPY Award event in Los Angeles to show support for her husband Prince Harry, it has been claimed.

Just on this point, the centre parting style is not called that. It was a term coined in the 1990s to describe a severely scraped back hairstyle (favoured by Kate Moss, hence the Croydon reference) that was pulled so tight it lifted the skin on your face and, to a point, it worked but long term was quite bad for your hair and scalp. I certainly haven’t heard the term commonly used since the 90s.

I am not sure if they wanted to be totally financially independent. Had they been allowed the half in/ half out , they would have received an allowance ( including clothing) for the time they were “ in”. As well as all the other perks such as security .
Greed is an understatement!

PrincessMee · 18/07/2024 10:10

This pulled back style is popular in certain sectors usually in WOC who want an easy way to appear groomed. They often add the baby hair at the front as well which Meghan doesn't seem to do. The baby hair thing is quite the statement instead of trying to hide them. Meghan's hair seems to be very sleek.

All the perks, none of the service. None of the lowly service on a wet Monday in Croydon in ann old people’s home anyway, just the glam ambassador’s receptions and trips to the Caribbean commonwealth countries for a bit of poolside diplomacy. Nice work if you can get it. Good job QEII was wise to them.

I believe Meghan has had at least two nose jobs from what I have read by plastic surgeons. The first was to narrow her nose and done early on in her career. The second was to lift the tip of it. Personally I believe she should have stayed with the first one but no one cares about that 😂 Many people get nose jobs of course especially in the entertainment business as they seek to achieve a certain image.

Actually looking at that pic I do see where she might have had fillers to produce a stronger chin and lips.

Lifestooshort71 · 18/07/2024 12:51

H&M have similar noses in profile (sorry, on phone so no pic)

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 18/07/2024 13:08

Now they might….

If she fiddles with it much more, she’ll end up like MJ.

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 18/07/2024 13:09

The bairns might have to hide their play-doh.

You're right - I've often thought that.
Quite noticeable in this photograph:

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 18/07/2024 15:45

Have they both had corrective nose surgery?
Catastrophic nose injuries?
A reaction to particularly strong scented candles?

They do look similar so you’d be forgiven for thinking that a common denominator is responsible for their noses looking like they are collapsing.

This is quite true. In their published Sussex Royal manifesto of January 2020 they expressly said that they’d only be giving up funding from the Sovereign Grant, and believed that doing so meant they’d be be free to earn money while also formally representing the Queen. They did not intend to give up on Charles’ funding (which was lavish and separate, as it came from his earnings from the Duchy of Cornwall). Hence Harry’s fury on Oprah about being cut off financially.
