Why would it being a freebie be something that would cause aesthetic discomfort?

Because he's having to wear what he's given or sponsored to wear, so it may not be his choice. That's what some of these celebrities do.
Just a kind of "meal deal" as they say.

But why woud that cause me aesthetic discomfort.

I think that maybe accounts for why Harry and Meghan are often so badly dressed nowadays. The clothing ill fitting and creased. When Charles funded the clothing Meghan got bespoke Givenchy, Dior and McCartney, and she looked good. The pair of them seem to wear either free clothes, or ones they're paid to wear. They rarely look good imo.
Charles has certainly been a very generous Pa.

No, their free clothes look bad because they obviously don't want to pay for them to be altered or ironed. Like when Charles supported them financially, they could pay for tailors or someone with an iron.

Pa was so cruel. I said, “Pa, I need a valet when I leave the UK. You can’t possibly expect me to select my own underpants every day!” My brain cell was oscillating at the thought of it. PTSD flashbacks of the TK Maxx Saturday till queue, from the days when I had to do my own shopping ,made me break out in a sweat. I had to sit down. Unfortunately there were no seats available, so I sat on a servant. Tears sprang to my Diana like eyes. Pa looked sad, but was intransigent. “I’m sorry, my dear boy. Meghan blew your budget on her wardrobe. The see-through engagement dress alone would have paid your valet’s salary for a year. You’re just going to have to learn once and for all the difference between briefs and boxers.” He turned and walked away. That was my last conversation with him before Meg and I boarded our freedom flight to Canada. My final memory: Pa’s retreating figure, head bowed, the pinstripes of his perfectly tailored suit fading into the distance. All I could think of was, “How am I going to get creases like that into my trousers? I wonder if Meg knows how to use an iron?”*

Heartbreaking 😔. I thought nothing could equal the distressing tale of a young man being given the smaller bedroom than his brother, in whatever castle or mansion he was living in.
It's extraordinary that he's overcome this incredibly disadvantaged life and forged an independent career as a global citizen and professional whinger.

I don’t.

But then I don’t court publicity.

Well who said anything who courts the public has to always wear clothes that have gone to a tailors and been altered. Maybe they are happy to buy clothes like we do and just wear them. Like the majority of people do.

Not all of them. Just the ones I feel could fit a little better. I pay a local seamstress.
I iron my own clothes and hang them up, though.
I think if I was a celebrity doing a lot of publicity for whatever I'd get bespoke clothing.

But if I went out in things that didn’t fit, or looked a mess, then those around me would pipe up to say so.

I’m not a stranger to an iron either.

Or a decent bra.
