Merching is basically doing deals with companies and designers for complimentary clothes and products for exposure. It is certainly what she did in Nigeria

If I'd produced some of the dresses she wore in Nigeria, I wouldn't be very happy. They were creased and crumpled and inappropriate and really weren't worn in a way that made them look good.

I have noticed that the designers are taking pre-orders for the dresses she wore on the trip (some at double what they have retailed at previously!) I thought that this is clever as they are making out that the designs have sold out (not the case as they were from a previous season and are being rereleased due to Meghan wearing them). The designers are taking pre orders to gauge interest. If they don’t have enough interest then they won’t fulfil any orders taken. It also saves money and embarrassment that a dress hasn’t sold well subsequent to Meghan wearing it and they aren’t wasting money on stocking something that won’t sell.
Not sure if I’ve made sense here?! Hope you get my point!

I think Harry has outstayed his welcome.
He has rapidly become another ‘spare’
The look on his face tells it all.

You could almost feel sorry for him. That clip says it all. Meghan is only there because of who she married.

Thedom · 18/05/2024 12:04

OMG !! What a telling video. 😏 There is (poor) Harry coming up the rear again.

Funny how she couldn't rearrange that photo op so that 'this one' wasn't the only one relegated to the back. He looks awkward and it looks like he was trying to squeeze into the front row.

She really is trying to master the Julia Roberts smile for the photos.

Yes, that does make sense - thank you! I did wonder about the pre orders on her outfits. Someone on another thread says she gets a cut of profits, same with a style website based on her clothing, but I don't know how true that is.

I know other posters have brought this up, and I realise we have sidetracked from the Nigeria visit, but let's not forget they never acknowledged nor mentioned the atrocities school girls (and teachers) are subjected to in Nigeria. Schoolgirls being kidnapped en masse on a regular basis, another incident a few days/weeks prior to their visit. with some of them murdered, others are still missing and some released after years in captivity and suffering horrendous abuse.

Being acclaimed for visiting an elite private school in Abuja, (in a totally inappropriate outfit) is so jarring against the backdrop of what is real life in Nigeria. Even if they didn't feel they could say anything while they were there, they could have released a statement afterwards condemning what is happening in MM's 'motherland'.

Between Harry ignoring Africa Parks and both of them ignoring the atrocities in Nigeria, its shocking they can continue to self declare themselves as humanitarians and role models.
.

I agree.

They aren't royal now so aren't bound by protocol, as they would be if this were a real royal tour. So while it may not be very diplomatic to talk about these issues while on 'tour', they could certainly raise them in a tactful way back in California.

Remember Meghan going on about losing her 'voice' when she was royal? It seems the only thing she uses her 'voice' for is to talk about herself. She doesn't seem at all interested in broader issues unless she can make them about Meghan. Far from being stifled by royal life, I think it's clear that she's actually pretty vapid and self absorbed.

Indeed Thedom.

An excellent post.

Sadly this tour was only ever about what they could do for themselves. Not for what they could do for others.

Tlolljs · 18/05/2024 12:26

I wonder if they have any advisors at all. Any friends even. Or just yes people surrounding them.
You always need someone on shit patrol. A trusted person who can tell you ‘no that’s a shit idea’

Would they take advice? They pay a lot for publicity and PR, but just seem to act on their own whim.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 18/05/2024 12:29

Yes, I get it.

Doesn't seem as if the designers have much faith in M's ability to sell a dress, if they didn't give her the latest styles. More like they grabbed something off the sale rail and thought 'OK, this'll do.'

TheTallestSally · 18/05/2024 12:30

I wonder just how bad the comments got on the Save The Children Twitter/X account?

I think if they were truly out for others, people would recognise that.

As is, I would imagine the comments were less than complimentary about H&M trying to flip the bird.

I wonder how much criticism and closing accounts to comments Save The Children had in relation to Princess Anne’s visits?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/05/2024 12:38

It is, yes, but then like "environmentalist" I've always thought they're descriptions for others to bestow rather than folk claiming them for themselves

IME there's not even any need to claim them, since real principles shine out from work done and associations made. Fake grandstanding, OTOH, is easily seen by anyone with judgement, which perhaps explains why the type of people H&M increasingly surround themselves with aren't necessarily those who many admire

They were along the lines of “shame on you” and “Princess Anne is your patron, why are you with these guys” - not as nice as the wording I’ve put here but you can imagine! A lot of people saying that they are ceasing their donations which is just awful. You can still view the posts but after 900+ negative comments then they obviously decided to halt them by only allowing people who Save the Children follow to comment to avoid further backlash.

Yes , that much was obvious quite early on

MyFunnyDuckDuck · 18/05/2024 12:47

He does not look happy here, awkward and a bit humiliated. I reckon he is becoming surplus to requirement.

The Fail reckons Meghan is eyeing up the Oval Office.

Exactly, @IcedPurple, and it's very noticeable

Hardly any surprise, then, that the A listers and people with real merit whose attention they seem to crave are now noticeable by their absence

She’s making herself the centre of attention again. Harry trying to move forward but she wants to be at the front. He looks pissed off .

MyFunnyDuckDuck · 18/05/2024 12:50

Meghan's path to the White House includes fundraising with jam.

Gosh, I've not seen this one before! He tries to edge in next to MM and she actually moves over to prevent him!!

Before we leave Nigeria, didn't she say near the beginning of the trip, 'Do you see why I married him, he speaks the truth!!'
Oh, how I laughed 😅

MummyJ12 · 18/05/2024 12:52

Oh goodness. Poor Harry looks really pissed off and Meghan looks pissed off that he’s trying to get in line with everyone!

ShamedBySiri · 18/05/2024 12:55

Oh dear. The wheels are really coming off - they're just lucky the wheels didn't come off the dodgy plane they flew on.

Harry and Meghan were welcomed to Nigeria by fugitive fraudster

ShamedBySiri · 18/05/2024 12:58

Just copying this comment as it seems as good a summary of the situation as any I could come up with.

"Nigeria is a very rich country from oil and gas. I’m sure Meghan and Harry think they can make a lot of money by connecting with very rich business people there for joint "projects" - especially as Meghan claims to be almost half Nigerian. And there will be rich business people who will no doubt feel Harry and Meghan can give them special legitimacy in the US and UK. The problem is - Nigeria is also notoriously corrupt at high level and I can’t help feeling Harry and Meghan are going to get themselves in trouble sooner or later if they aren’t very careful."

Thank you for that @MummyJ12 I’m not on Twitter so can’t see things.

I suspected as much. Echoing quite a few sentiments on here.

I hope people don’t stop donating though. That would be dreadful.

I think the survive/thrive thing was a step too far although far more valid than when someone else used it.

I do think people would have not thought twice about them meeting with STC if they thought for a moment that H&M were there for the charity.

It seems some have seen if for what it was. All about the optics.

Something that STC might now be pondering on.

I’m sure PA is absolutely fizzing mad. She does all the hard yards for them and then they decide the photo ops with those clowns is a better bet.

MaturingCheeseball · 18/05/2024 13:22

That clip of Harry - oh dear! She really is quite shameless.

BemusedAmerican · 18/05/2024 13:22

I am wondering if STC Nigeria was pressured to meet them. Isn't Misan Harriman connected with them? Or they just showed up with Mishan and the camera crew. It would take a brave person to slam the door in their faces.
