By selling more privacy. Harry's book made a lot of money, not because of the quality of literature, but because of what he was prepared to share.
Another book, maybe from Meghan would make a similar amount of money.
A reality tv show probably would do well.

What does Meghan really have left to say?

She was only in the royal family for 2 years, and has been out of it for more than 4. In that time, she's done the Oprah show and several other interviews, podcasts and a 'documentary'. She surely can't have much more to say.

No way such a book would sell on the same scale as 'Spare'. Harry had a lifetime of royal dirt to sell. I don't think anyone is interested in Meghan's pre Harry life.

DelectableMe · 18/05/2024 10:39

Ok. Whatever. Just my opinion.

Merchandise is just things that she can sell or promote such as homewares or clothing lines.

You can buy homewares or clothes in any number of places.

What is Meghan's selling point in China, a country with its own celebrities and influencers?

Thedom · 18/05/2024 10:42

I would watch a few episodes of a reality series of theirs, , not just them blowing hot air in an interview, but in meetings with their PR people, trashing out deals, having an argument over the breakfast table, hitting the shops, hopping on their friends private jet.

The cookery show wouldn't engage me, especially now they are not doing it in their own kitchen, so it's all totally staged and fabricated.

Ok, you're right, I'm wrong. I don't have anything more to say, just posting some ideas.

MaturingCheeseball · 18/05/2024 10:48

I think Meghan’s book would sell ( and not just to her fans buying ten copies each) because it would be her truth and therefore could contain anything. The late Queen was a naturist, Charles propositioned Doria, William asked for the smashed dog bowl as a trophy and Kate - well - poor Kate - I can’t imagine what she’d make up about her.

A reality show probably would get a big audience, and I suspect this is the kind of content Netflix were expecting from them.

However, in order for a reality show to be successful you have to at least pretend to be showing the 'real thing'. Viewers need to believe that they are getting a peek into your life. They are both too controlling for anything like that. As you say, even the cooking show will be filmed elsewhere. They are both too self important for a reality show, even though that really is their level.

Maybe they’ll be Rent-A-Royals for countries with poor human rights records. Just visit a couple of charities to legitimise it and they’ll provide worldwide publicity.

Yeah, I've been thinking this as well. They are already using Invictus as a (?willing) smokescreen.

She probably doesn't but I think the people who bought "Spare" hoping for dirt on the RF would buy a book by Meghan hoping for the same.
Perhaps she could bring out different volumes: "Wear" about her wardrobe; "Despair" about the times she collapsed on the floor, sobbing; "Heir" about how she wishes her husband was...

MyFunnyDuckDuck · 18/05/2024 11:05

But she could totally control such a show. They'd be the TV royals. It could be a bit like the Mum influencers but royal style and with a huge global social media following. They should admit that people are mostly interested in their gossip value. Gracefully Trailblazing Duchess and Harry The Hapless Hubby could offer a glimpse into quirky transatlantic royal life in California. They'd have to include Archie and Lilibet though otherwise there'd be little interest. I'd watch this.

Good point.

TheTallestSally · 18/05/2024 11:11

She wants to get into commercials.

Carpetright - spends enough time sobbing on them.

Optrex. To keep that one tear tear-duct in optimal conditions.

Jessie’s. Who knows a camera better?

Hunter. Wellingtons for all weathers.

Kleenex. To hand out on grief vulture tours.

Harry can advertise gripe water, haribo sours and hard cheese.

I suspect once William is in charge the gloves will come off.

A grandchild and son are a different proposition to a brother. Most parents and grandparents forgive their children for a lot. A brother id say less so unless they have dirt on you also.

Sussurations · 18/05/2024 11:25

I would LOVE to see them on a Real Housewives reality show. And some of the Real Housewives have done well out of the show by using it as a platform for their ventures (Bethenny Frankel being the prime example, though she is exceptionally hard-working, which MM is … not)

Meghan could write a book that would sell, but 1) she’d have to use a ghost writer, which she might be reluctant to do - her own writing is awful 2) it would have to be interesting, and given how much mileage she’s got out of the bridesmaid dresses nothingburger, I don’t know how much more she’s got. Again I’d LOVE a book revealing the unvarnished truth - it would be fascinating to know about her horror at being asked to wear tights, a hat, certain nail varnish, how she learned about the hierarchy and being told where and where not to stand, what really happened over the wedding tiara, who in the RF was nice to her and who wasn’t- and if she had the slightest grain of humour in her personalty she could do it.

Being massively grandiose, narcissistic and fragile really limits her options. I do think they are vulnerable in their pathological need for flattery and large amounts of cash.

MyFunnyDuckDuck · 18/05/2024 11:29

That's a excellent point, she does not seem to have a sense of humour, and certainly not self deprecating. But that's maybe less common in the US.

TheTallestSally · 18/05/2024 11:29

I’d rather know how she came about to have only one family member at her wedding.

I do think if she attacked the RF in her book she would have her ‘princess’ arse handed to her on a plate.

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2024 11:37

With her jam gang bringing the drama

I know other posters have brought this up, and I realise we have sidetracked from the Nigeria visit, but let's not forget they never acknowledged nor mentioned the atrocities school girls (and teachers) are subjected to in Nigeria. Schoolgirls being kidnapped en masse on a regular basis, another incident a few days/weeks prior to their visit. with some of them murdered, others are still missing and some released after years in captivity and suffering horrendous abuse.

Being acclaimed for visiting an elite private school in Abuja, (in a totally inappropriate outfit) is so jarring against the backdrop of what is real life in Nigeria. Even if they didn't feel they could say anything while they were there, they could have released a statement afterwards condemning what is happening in MM's 'motherland'.

Between Harry ignoring Africa Parks and both of them ignoring the atrocities in Nigeria, its shocking they can continue to self declare themselves as humanitarians and role models.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 18/05/2024 11:49

Merching is basically doing deals with companies and designers for complimentary clothes and products for exposure. It is certainly what she did in Nigeria

If I'd produced some of the dresses she wore in Nigeria, I wouldn't be very happy. They were creased and crumpled and inappropriate and really weren't worn in a way that made them look good.

DelectableMe · 18/05/2024 11:50

Excellent points, @Thedom - it's extraordinary how they call themselves philanthropists or lay claim to any moral standards.

I think Harry has outstayed his welcome.
He has rapidly become another ‘spare’
The look on his face tells it all.

DelectableMe · 18/05/2024 11:52

Yes, she's not prepared to stand aside so he can be on the front row, is she?.😂

Exactly this! It’s what I was alluding to earlier but didn’t put anywhere near as well as you did here!
great post.
