Part 5 of (mostly ๐Ÿ˜‚) drama-free and positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether itโ€™s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghanโ€™s fashion choices (Harryโ€™s too, on occasion ๐Ÿ˜‰), thereโ€™s plenty to discuss. Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. Hat tip to @queentim for the original inspiration.

William also lost his mother, let's not forget!

They always do. Every single time.

I donโ€™t think the UK needs to take lessons on royalty from the country of Black Piet.

@skullbabe I have filed and paid my taxes via bank transfer for years. I can set the date for the transfer. It goes through immediately. I also transfer money for mortgage, maintenance, bills, retirement savings, and donations. I don't use checks. I give money presents through PayPal. In NYC, you can pay real estate taxes, parking tickets, etc. online. I find it hard to believe that California is more backward than NYS.

Why would Harry ger a mention? Heโ€™s estranged from his family, sold tawdry tales on them. This was about Charles, William, the army and the chief role. Not about bloody Harry.

That video! Once a muppet always a muppet! ๐Ÿ˜‚

@AliceOlive Wow! I help people in NYC apply for subsidized housing on a regular basis and we scan and upload the paperwork to the website. It is amazing to think that NYCHA is more technically advanced than the state of California. That is so disturbing.

BemusedAmerican · 15/05/2024 12:25

I also get stopped by people soliciting for money on the street who offer to give me their Venmo account info ( no spare change for them). I truly must live in a rarified world.

Yes, it seems that Zwarte Piet (Black Pete) in its traditional blackface depiction is on its way out in the Netherlands. There has been a significant shift in public opinion and actions against the character in recent years:

Public Opinion: Polls show a decline in support for the traditional portrayal of Zwarte Piet, with more people recognizing its racist connotations.

Official Changes: Major cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam have banned the character from official parades, replacing it with alternative versions without blackface.

Retailers and Media: Many retailers and media outlets are also phasing out the traditional image of Zwarte Piet in their products and content.

Activism: Anti-racism activists have played a crucial role in raising awareness and pushing for change through protests and campaigns.

Soot Pete (Roetveegpiet): A popular alternative is the "Soot Pete" (Roetveegpiet) character, whose face is streaked with soot rather than being completely black. This version is increasingly used in celebrations.

While the transition is ongoing and there is still some resistance from those who defend the tradition, the overall trend suggests that the Netherlands is moving away from the traditional blackface portrayal of Zwarte Piet.

May not be the whole state, but I do think charities most often would send a check.

Itโ€™s not only about technology for an organization, either. Itโ€™s about security and risk of fraud. Signatories. Who has access to wire monies. One non-profit I worked with would require bookkeeper to cut the check and treasurer to sign it. We wouldnโ€™t have given anyone access to take funds out directly.

On a corporate level that might require two people to log in and approve any transfers depending upon what processes are in place. But you donโ€™t give the AP department access to do this. So two people from treasury with signing capabilities. Sarbanes-Oxley is a beast.

Cutting and pasting large paragraphs from google or Wikipedia doesn't make you look as clever as you think!

Well let's put it this way - one was a wimp and cried himself out of the marines and still gets to wear the uniform and some toy medals and the other one did active service facing the enemy in firefights in Afghanistan.

Wearing the uniform in a ceremonial sense has nothing to do with having served. Itโ€™s a ceremonial role. Having served doesnโ€™t qualify you to do this and just thinking itโ€™s not fair because Harry was on active service is a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the monarchy with regard to the armed forces. Harry isnโ€™t a hero just because he served either. That term is so overused. All members of the armed forces are valuable and doing a job. No heroics necessary

This is a disgusting thing to say.

Mental health clearly only matters to some when itโ€™s about Harry and Meghan.

Nice try. But since the Netherlands still have him and the populace needs to be persuaded heโ€™s a bad idea; and since the UK simply does not have an equivalent cultural figure and has long been aghast at similar such depictions in media, then I will not be looking to the Netherlands to show the way any time soon on traditional matters like the royal family.

You forgot that one was not able to pass his exams to progress too.

And is discussed in a derogatory manner by veterans and serving personnel alike.

Iโ€™ll listen to how easy it is to be a Marine from one who is either serving in the Marines or one has worked alongside.

Iโ€™m the latter.

Meghan wore a dress from California based designer, Johanna Ortiz โ€” it is the Tropicana Nights Dress, $2.850.

So Harry did what he should do and didn't resign from the forces.
I've got a few relatives who did that and they don't describe themselves as heroes.
What did Harry do that was heroic? I've two George Cross medals amongst my relatives so I know what "heroic" can mean.

Not a marine though.
