Part 5 of (mostly ๐Ÿ˜‚) drama-free and positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether itโ€™s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghanโ€™s fashion choices (Harryโ€™s too, on occasion ๐Ÿ˜‰), thereโ€™s plenty to discuss. Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. Hat tip to @queentim for the original inspiration.

Indeed.

Isn it interesting how some people are quick to dish out abuse and mockery, then wilt when theyโ€™re on the receiving end of it?

And to think that the original intent was for this to be a positive threadโ€ฆ.

Maybe Part 6โ€ฆ

Why yes, yes it is.

Was this little non sequitur AI too? Because I have no idea what this had to do with anything relating to Morris dancing @TheFirmBiscuit

At some point in the future there is going to be a hack of the royal's mail system either by foreign powers or clever hackers or some such and there will be a huge data dump like Wikileaks and that will truly be a bombshell.

But it's okay to mock a woman starting up a new business or doing whatever she decides she would like to do to earn money. Mock her because she likes to jold hands with husband, mock her for how she claps, whatvshe wears and so on. Calling her narcissistic and all manner of names. Why is that acceptable? I woukd think the majority of people would say that isn't acceptable

Iโ€™ve not done any of this, actually. ๐Ÿคฃ

Ah, positivityโ€ฆ

This thread was meant to be a positive one, and it started that way, untilโ€ฆ.

Sumtin about if you canโ€™t take it, donโ€™t dish it springs to mindโ€ฆ

Some of us were really trying to keep this thread positive and on track. Unfortunately there were a number of super goady posts, I even ignored the links to one of the Sussex Squad members (From a poster who claims/claimed not to know anything about them!)
You want to talk mean girl behaviour? Minimising mental health issues is mean girl behaviour. Bullying and goading are mean girl behaviour. Unfortunately some here are championing mean girl behaviour and a number of posters who are claiming victim hood and victimisation need to self reflect.

Thatโ€™s rather rich.

You seem to think Iโ€™m bothered by your attempts at bullying me. Repeating a word I used to describe your own negative behavior. Counting my posts. Etc, etc.

Your assumption is incorrect. I am neither bothered nor surprised.

A non sequiter it just occured to me none of us really know what they think , is Bowyer correct or whatever. But if a huge hack was to happen and it has happened to Pentagon and NASA computers then they would be picked over by the global press and would probably shaje the institutioin to it's very foundations.

I am so delighted to hear that, Alice!

Itโ€™s so important for everyone to think about and protect their own mental health.

@skullbabe Have you considered adopting a parrot, cockatoo or macaw? There are many in shelters because they live almost as long as humans and their owners don't estate plan properly. They love attention and will talk back. You could make a real difference to a bird.

I havenโ€™t thought about it - very interesting. Thank you.

Being sarcastic about mental health is not a smart look.

MummyJ12 · 15/05/2024 14:01

Oh and I really wish some people would read the full bloomin thread. I posted about the zebra dress way back!

Rant over! Thanks everyone. See you on another thread Iโ€™m sure. Unless there are more name changesโ€ฆ..

BemusedAmerican · 15/05/2024 13:59

Or if Invictus was hacked.

I'm not sure there's too much that would cause major reputational damage. I did ask about the other so my instinct was correct ;

Overall, a devastating hack of the Royal Family's internal messaging system would be a major crisis with potentially catastrophic consequences for the monarchy and the country as a whole. It would be a challenge to manage the fallout and restore public confidence in the institution.

Iโ€™m not sure their views on Morris dancing will bring the world to a halt.

Terry Pratchett loved Morris Dancing! We even have it in the US. Sword dancing, too. Have you read "The Wintersmith" ?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/05/2024 14:09

TheFirmBiscuit · 15/05/2024 13:02

You're a clever woman but I'm sure you know that's a pretty weak arguement. I've seen black faced morris dancers in real life. At some point in the future there is going to be a hack of the royal's mail system either by foreign powers or clever hackers or some such and there will be a huge data dump like Wikileaks and that will truly be a bombshell.

Comparing apples and oranges again. It is not established why the faces of Morris Dancers were blackened, since the dance originated and was brought over to the UK from Northern Europe. It is either a reference to poor people blackening their faces as a disguise to beg, a reference to miners (although I grew up in the 70s and 80s in a mining community and certainly never saw any of our local dancers with blackened faces) or a nod to the supposed Moorish origins of the dance (never established). Nobody knows for sure. It's hardly a widespread practice anymore either, although I gather from Time Out (hardly a vehicle for the promotion of racist practices) that the young and the hip have started to take it up, which is great as I loved country dancing as a child and would hate to see it die out. I've seen blackened faces on Morris dancers once, in a mining community in Yorkshire, possibly last century but not recently. And it is no longer the practice to use black make up because of the ambiguity and potential offense it may cause.

By contrast, everyone knows who Black Piet is meant to represent, there's no ambiguity there. He's also the Dutch equivalent of Santa Claus, so much more culturally embedded in modern psyche. And he's still got strong support at the heart of Dutch politics. I don't recall any UK politicians going into bat in support of Morris dancers being able to black up.

No I haven't, I will look that book up, thank you. Interesting to know you have a US equivalent too!

Now I know I was definitely side eyeing Harryโ€™s agbada previously but this video actually made me smile with the good humour he had (I still think that wasnโ€™t his colour ๐Ÿคฃ)

Talking of morris dancing, I grew up in a town that held huge festivals every year!! Was quite nice welcoming in the harvest and now I've moved they hold them here too !
Hadn't seen the black crows before moving here but I find them quite terrifying with the sticks and bells ( used ceremoniously to scare the birds from stealing the grain) .

BemusedAmerican · 15/05/2024 14:20

I went to college in a town with morris dancers. They used to dance over the crosswalks as a group while rehearsing. No crows though, possible because the local crops were apples and asparagus.
