Part 5 of (mostly ๐Ÿ˜‚) drama-free and positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether itโ€™s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghanโ€™s fashion choices (Harryโ€™s too, on occasion ๐Ÿ˜‰), thereโ€™s plenty to discuss. Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. Hat tip to @queentim for the original inspiration.

Love the design on the lower part of the dress.

Is she wearing a crucifix with that white strapless dress? All other ladies covered up modestly and colourful. And Harry all in white too. As a POC I find their fashion choices uncomfortable.

It looks like itโ€™s respectful to cover your shoulders too, Harry looks fantastic in white though!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 15:28

Honestly, and this could just be my sensitivities as a POC, I am finding the revealing outfit designs, block colouring while all the other women around are in beautiful print, and pale colour palette all a bit reminiscent of colonial dressing a la White Mischief.

Where Meghan appears to walk away mid conversation from her though perhaps she is walking towards the musicians.

Oh dear those poor school children ๐Ÿ˜ข

DiTePerdantTeMaledico · 11/05/2024 14:40

Oh no. My photo changed size or something.

I agree with you that the lady looks great in the green and turquoise. I must see if there was a whole row of them in those colours.

not sure if this thread is just about clothes?

so, if so sorry as discussing wider, but am I the only one finding the optics of this very odd, it is indeed like they are doing a royal tour, the very thing they didnโ€™t wish to be. I canโ€™t work out what they are doing.

and Megan has lost a lot of weight, thatโ€™s what strikes me about her appearance, she is very fragile looking.

If you think of it as a royal tour a lot of the things are odd, but it isn't. It's a celebrity tour, lots of celebrities do them on behalf of charities they are associated with. They are no different from all those who go and visit foreign countries on behalf of Comic Relief.

Love this dress. Does anyone know the identity of this woman?

AliceOlive · 11/05/2024 16:03

Overtheatlantic · 11/05/2024 14:04

The cultural differences would have been so significant that itโ€™s hardly surprising she misunderstood a fair number of references and rules.

Do you mean between US and Nigeria?

LumiB · 11/05/2024 16:05

I thu know she has been looking good and they are both clearly happy. I liked the white dress it looked great in her.

I couldn't pull off the colours and prints the Nigerian women wear also some of the colours they out together I just personally wouldnt. They look fab though and it suits them but I just couldn't pull it off.

skullbabe · 11/05/2024 16:07

Indeed. They have been to the school they are associated with via Archwell and now are doing Invictus associated events.

Do Comic Relief and other charity celebs do military inspections from a red carpeted platform, like Harry did yesterday?

No, but it probably did provide some with comic relief!

I admit I've only been looking at the frocks here so I missed that he did that.

I suppose, because he seems to have been invited by the military, that was inevitable but if I were him I would have declined. But if Harry made better decisions we wouldn't be in this position.

It reminds me of the saluting at Pearl Harbour, doesn't across well.

skullbabe · 11/05/2024 16:31

So glad we have so many people here from the diaspora to tell us about how things are ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway I spied a gele and cloth in the Meghan's presents.

He's there is his capacity as a private citizen, he is not representative of the head of state, as made abundantly clear by the FCO. It would be inevitable in a royal tour, but not in this case. He does not need to think about diplomatic sensitivities or offending the host nation, the military is not the state of Nigeria, it works for the state. He is being played and is too stupid or too vain to say no.

I agree, it was what I meant by saying he needs to make better decisions.

I'm mildly interested to watch the fallout from this tour in the US. I'm not sure it's providing the optics they expected.

I thought Comic Relief had decided to stop doing this given all the (justified in my opinion) criticism about white saviourism?

They employ local reporters and film makers to highlight the projects they support.

Yes they have, this is a bit of a throw back.

The cultural differences would have been so significant that itโ€™s hardly surprising she misunderstood a fair number of references and rules.

There was no misunderstanding - in order to avoid potentially wearing the same colour as other more senior members of the family she was she in, she purposefully chose clothes which were unlikely to be chosen by others. If any other person did this - it would be considered thoughtful and considerate. But itโ€™s Meghan so ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I absolutely agree. I was just trying to consider a different aspect as someone who married into a different culture. I know from my own experience that it can take years to understand the nuances. Best wishes.

bolderthan · 11/05/2024 16:41

why is Meghan wearing a wedding dress?

Overtheatlantic · 11/05/2024 16:41

She isnโ€™t.

No between the US and the UK.
