Part 5 of (mostly ๐Ÿ˜‚) drama-free and positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether itโ€™s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghanโ€™s fashion choices (Harryโ€™s too, on occasion ๐Ÿ˜‰), thereโ€™s plenty to discuss. Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. Hat tip to @queentim for the original inspiration.

Who are the โ€œbitter setโ€? Iโ€™m not sure why you would say this unless you are referring to people off this board. Many of us have been saying weโ€™d have loved Meghan to work with a cutting edge, Nigerian designer for her attire for this trip. Not to mention admiring the ladies in the photos and their beautiful clothes. What are we (or whoever you are referring to) supposed to be in pain about?

Wickedlywearynamechanged · 11/05/2024 18:48

I'm sorry but that picture leaves a bad taste to me .
In my own opinion, too white saviour !

I donโ€™t agree that is happening here. Harry is a former soldier who is holding the hand of a fellow sick and injured soldier. Itโ€™s very much in keeping with the spirit of Invictus, in my opinion. I watched all episodes of The Heart of Invictus documentary and also watched quite a bit of the 2023 games in Germany and saw many moments similar to this, not just between Harry and other Vets and those still actively serving, but also between participating former and current service men and women, and between their families too.

Missan Harriman is a brilliant photographer who was born in Nigeria - if I remember correctly. I think heโ€™s photographed a lovely moment.

Hopefully these soldiers will recover and go on to compete at the Games too.

Yep really loving the bronde - finally figured out who these 2 are. They are part of GEANCO and are 2 of 5 siblings for whom the org is named after.

Oh good to know OP. The lady with the blonde braids looks stunning. I love her skirt and off the shoulder top. I Especially like the print on her skirt - really beautiful.

headstone · 11/05/2024 19:02

I also think the white dress looks like a wedding dress, colourful would be much better.

headstone · 11/05/2024 19:08

Not keen on that frumpy peach dress either , the other outfits are ok.

Hopefully these men are supported by their government as disability in a country like this can be a disaster for their future life.

I think that green shirt might work - the green suit looked good yesterday.

They've heard he's partial to ganja ๐Ÿ˜‚

Lelivre · 11/05/2024 19:24

Love all of the dresses and outfits so far!
I am also an older mum who likes a bit of fashion and generally find her choices appealing. Often I find them current in a grown up, classy and modest kind of way.

However these seem to me to be somewhat unsuitable for the occasions and more like fancy holiday wear. I sense some good judgement has been lost here to the point where I feel a some secondhand embarrassment. Especially the dresses, it would be wise to err on the side of caution and be a little more covered up at schools and these casual events. The wedding dress one is a bit cringe eek!

skullbabe · 11/05/2024 19:52

Tonight at the Women in Leadership forum - she said she decided to wear some colour which should please many. Itโ€™s the Dire Ruffle Hem Maxi Dress by Orire - a Lagos based brand. The Nigerian website is down but is on Nordstrom.

Love it! But it's holiday wear again imo and does her a disservice in a sense; looking at how covered up other the speakers and delegates seem to be.

Sandwichgen · 11/05/2024 20:07

Oh thatโ€™s lovely!

Sandwichgen · 11/05/2024 20:08

But yes, Iโ€™ve never seen a woman in any kind of leadership position wearing something like that for a serious occasion

Serenster · 11/05/2024 20:27

Lovely dress, and fab colour on Meghan! Totally wrong for the function, though (seems to be the theme for this visit).

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 20:34

Gorgeous dress. But yes, not appropriate for the event. Maybe she could have thrown a jacket over it to make it a more formal look.

Iโ€™m an American who has lived in England for 15 years and so I will respectfully disagree.

Of course ymmv.

I canโ€™t decide if Megan doesnโ€™t really care about dressing appropriately, just she wants to wear what she likes, when she likes. Or she does care and just gets it continually wrong.

it has to be the former, sheโ€™s a woman in her 40s, and whilst clearly not the sharpest tool in the box, an affliction she shares with her husband, and very obviously out of her depth, she is surely smart enough to know how female leaders dress, and itโ€™s not like their about to do the tango.

spanieleyes · 11/05/2024 21:03

I have liked all of the " outfits" we have seen but I also agree with those who have said that they are just not appropriate for the situation or location. There is too much flesh on show in what is a country with strong religious beliefs, both Muslim and Christian. And they just don't seem to match the occasion, the palm print dress looks like it would be fantastic at the beach, the white dress at an evening celebrity show, the red one at a summer barbecue etc, just not where they were worn!

My own lived experience would tell me otherwise and then add to the BRF culture.

Iโ€™d love to hear examples of what you found to be different between the two.

Honestly, and this could just be my sensitivities as a POC, I am finding the revealing outfit designs, block colouring while all the other women around are in beautiful print, and pale colour palette all a bit reminiscent of colonial dressing a la White Mischief.

Some may say it's probably what she's cosplaying as.

Nono22972 · 11/05/2024 15:15

I saw this woman yesterday and loved her outfit

Now this is how you look good slim.

That full photo of Meghan (and Harry) with her legs showing reminds me of the stereotypical images of people suffering from malnutrition and starvation. That is a very boney frame and not in a good way. She needs to eat or something.

"Fancy holiday wear" is a good description.

Lifestooshort71 · 11/05/2024 21:47

I remember going up north to a weekend of events organised by my new in-laws. I had no idea what the dress code would be for any of the events so packed what I thought were attractive and appropriate outfits. Gosh, was I wrong! I was totally overdressed as their idea of 'dressing up' were quasi-designer sports outfits. Anyway, it may be that Meghan also misjudged what was expected in the fashion stakes and couldn't really send out for something else so was stuck with her choices. I'm possibly being too generous here as she actually looks incredibly comfortable in all her outfits and not wishing the ground would open up - some lovely dresses but inappropriate.
