Part 5 of (mostly ๐Ÿ˜‚) drama-free and positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether itโ€™s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghanโ€™s fashion choices (Harryโ€™s too, on occasion ๐Ÿ˜‰), thereโ€™s plenty to discuss. Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. Hat tip to @queentim for the original inspiration.

The full ensemble of the etu!
It has more meaning that Meg didn't simply arrive with her own Naija clothes but instead the nation lovingly swaddled her with unique clothing!
The yellow dress seems to be the same from the photo under the tree from when they announced their pregnancy.
๐Ÿ‘‘
It seems she's wearing coral earrings gifted her by the eastern Kings. The fact they travelled to see her says a lot.
They rarely leave their places during their reigns.

It seems there really is a Sussex Squad. Some ladies are making charitable donations across Nigeria using the name. ๐Ÿ’
This is so kind!

Seems like a whirlwind and a wonderful few days for the Sussexes and Invictus in Nigeria!

Thanks for the updates and photos!

Oh that is a shame you weren't in Nigeria!

Oh I mean you went to university with an HRH! You could have been a future Queen had you met and gotten together (and if you wanted that role of course)! Though I doubt you'd then be spending much time on Mumsnet ๐Ÿ˜‚

I've enjoyed reading your posts though explaining the culture and fashions!

It's my pleasure. I miss the almost twice a week dressing up in trad, seeing loved ones, dancing, the energetic vibe of the culture.

Ofcourse things are getting better but still very patriarchal. This classmate of mine for example has two wives. Sadly his only son (heir) which was from his second wife died a couple of years ago so if he doesn't have a son soon he might even marry another. Though perhaps he'll consider IVF sex selection.

I sent my loved ones jam from Small Batch Jam Co for Mother's Day. That was my charitable giving. ๐Ÿ˜‡

Two short 'X' videos that are bang on the money IMHO.

The first from arch royalist and all round amazing woman Tina Brown on the Harry shaped hole in the heart of the BRF.

And secondly from the erstwhile James' O'Brien who nails the reason for the vitriloic hate reigning down on the poor couple.

Thanks for these links!
Saying it as it is.
I understand that the RF is British culture and tradition, so it's precious. I used to love them all until Camilla showed up and they treated Meghan and Harry has they have.

Ofcourse no royal lineage is established and sustained without dealing ruthlessly with threats to the throne at some point or the other but I can't stand deceitful use of power, divide and rule tactics (always criticising one and another set must always be praised even when they don't deserve it), smokes and mirrors (palace sources, close friend etc) and much more in this day and age to secure the throne if the people don't like the real you then it is what is it. Take it with your full chest as they say in Nij.

AnnieSF · 13/05/2024 03:43

Your last paragraph is apt about most places including Nigeria.

skullbabe · 13/05/2024 07:25

I pointed out to my DH that the Chief of Defense Staff was holding his wife's hand while they stood beside the Lagos state governor as he made his speech and Harry held Meghan's on the other side.

Aww - I spied that too. While I donโ€™t think H&M were responsible for this - I think itโ€™s really lovely to see. Anyway - thanks so much for posting and giving context for some of the things non Nigerians wouldnโ€™t know.

ยฃ500 is a lot of money too. (What the cheque equates to in GBP).

Itโ€™s a shame that they donโ€™t always channel their energies more positively. They could make such a difference. Be a force for good rather than the truly sinister stuff that they have become notorious for.

"Who needs a crown when you've got this much love? Princess Meghan, stealing hearts in Nigeria."

So a group of people who have incessantly posted unsubstantiated, harassing, hateful, and oftentimes anti British comments on social media are now jointly donating under this identity? ๐Ÿ˜‚ How orchestrated.

I love to imagine Meghan in a Netflix movie playing a Russian honey trap ๐Ÿ˜œ.

TheFirmBiscuit · 13/05/2024 08:08

My oh my the couple have certainly blazed a trail and set the world on fire. Surely competition, if this is the way the Palace wants to frame it, is a good thing. The "Firm" if they refuse to embrace them (the half in half out option) will have to up their game if they want to convince a new generation as to why we should, at considerable expense keep them in their gilded cage. Post Elizabeth the rules of implied support have changed and no amount of sniping or carping at the supposed unfairness cuts it anymore. They are a public institution subject to public scrutiny , thank God ,and Harry found the love of his life and a path out of his pain and that's something to celebrate in an increasingly darkening world.

Royal sash depicts the Omu ARO - Royal Coat of Arms. The symbol represent that the Arochukwu people are as much prepared for peace (symbolized by the Omu - palm frond - the knotted rope) as they are prepared for war (symbolized by the gun, sword and shield.

The palace has never framed it as a โ€˜competitionโ€™ - nor has anyone else.

Probably more along the lines of โ€˜disingenuous gobshites on tourโ€™.

It may just well be a huge 43% outpouring of love - and I hope for their sake that it is.

I canโ€™t help feeling that there is something more sinister at play and unfortunately, if true, they wonโ€™t see it for the glitter.

You get nothing for nothing in this increasingly darkening world.

As for celebrating the Sussex Squad?

My oh my indeed.

I was celebrating the couple, not this supposed all powerful "Sussex Squad" - this strawman loaded with so much implied power and poison, probaly most of it not true, which is then used a convenient smear for anybody not drinking the Royal Kool Aid.

There's nothing sinister at play, the Elizabethan Age was a golden era for the British Monarchy as she reigned for nearly all of her glorious adult life seemingly withour error or criticism. That's never coming back and that high point however hard they try won't be reached again and pointing that our isn't treason but the truth.

DiTePerdantTeMaledico · 13/05/2024 08:36

Iโ€™m not sure drinking Royal Kool Aid is a thing.

Drinking Sussex Fool Aid might be.

And if you read my post, I said nothing regarding you celebrating the Sussex Squad.

There is no need take a general statement personally.

I donโ€™t understand how some on here see words in posts that are never there and who think that everything is all about them.

You are just being goady @TheFirmBiscuit and trying to completely derail this thread. I am not going to engage with you further as I do not believe that you post in good faith and (in the spirit of MN when it was a nicer place to be), I have more respect for the OP than the desire to try and reason with the unreasonable.
