Part 5 of (mostly ๐Ÿ˜‚) drama-free and positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether itโ€™s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghanโ€™s fashion choices (Harryโ€™s too, on occasion ๐Ÿ˜‰), thereโ€™s plenty to discuss. Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. Hat tip to @queentim for the original inspiration.

Two short 'X' videos that are bang on the money IMHO.

The first from arch royalist and all round amazing woman Tina Brown on the Harry shaped hole in the heart of the BRF.

https://twitter.com/QueenRMade1/status/1789611057260253683

And secondly from the erstwhile James' O'Brien who nails the reason for the vitriloic hate reigning down on the poor couple.

Oh wow I have seen what just happened - these 3 Kings made her now Princess of Nigeria in her own rights. Ada Mazi, Omu of Arochukwu Ancient Kingdom.

Can't imagine this going down well with local communities.

@Delectable are you telling us you could have been a Queen๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€??!

No at all. My surname connotes being from a royal family but I'm very far removed. These days you can only be queen by marriage as most thrones/family will have many eligible sons. My grand father had four wives and over 20 children. So you see what I mean. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜

I was supposed to be in Abuja for 3weeks including this weekend, sadly I'm stuck in London till next month. Thankful for the beautiful weather this weekend but regret not being in Abuja when my peps were there! ๐Ÿ˜

@Delectable does the aso oke that sheโ€™s wearing in the first set of pictures you posted have a specific meaning?

I've just seen the blue skirt closer. That's actually Etu. It's an iro skirt. Traditionally, the flap with be at the back but this has it in front. The designers and youngsters will love this twist and the mummies will simply say "that's our girl!"

This thread has descended into a twisty turny thing !

The governor of Lagos state in his public address said he's formally invited them to return to visit Lagos. I pointed out to my DH that the Chief of Defense Staff was holding his wife's hand while they stood beside the Lagos state governor as he made his speech and Harry held Meghan's on the other side. Anyone who knows Nigeria especially their military men know this is very unusual! So in just 48hrs, H&M have made it ok to show affection publicly to one's spouse. Especially for the military to see the Chief of all Defence Forces do that in public. He's sending a message that it's acceptable to show affection to your wife.
I can imagine his wife will be thrilled.

As H&M left the meeting of injured soldiers in Lagos I saw the CDS still holding his wife's had as they walked to his car to make the convoy but he was walking too fast for her. They'll get use to it eventually. Sweet!๐Ÿ’‘

The Nigerian press keep saying "our sister"! ๐Ÿ’–

It's usual for those without any African heritage to impose the one drop rule as applied to black Africans and those of black African heritage.
They distance themselves from anything to do with the humanity of the African people on the continent and the diaspora.

This is an interesting post from a Nigerian ex-Etonian https://twitter.com/kio_amachree

My goodness he seems to hate just about everyone else in the world. Isn't it funny though how he loved British education of a set up he despises ๐Ÿ™„

Isn't that a bit insulting to say this? People have learnt something by watching a couple in 48 hours holding hands so they think " oh yes we will give that a go" ๐Ÿ˜‚

TheFirmBiscuit · 12/05/2024 18:47

The haters are going to need to get used to this , their marriage seems rock solid, they are greeted like rock stars, particuarly in Commonwealth countries and they seem to spread happiness wherever they go. George and Amal you can now have your well earned retirement bar a few Nespresso gigs as the H&M roadshow has taken over where you left off. No demos either as they totally get the optics of a fading post-colonial country in decline and don't rub it in by representing "The Crown" .

I wouldn't think so. The poster is explaining the context and culture that makes sense. It seems a bit like when people noted and were excited that Will and Kate began showing public displays of affection more recently, especially after EII passing.

Oh that is a shame you weren't in Nigeria!

Oh I mean you went to university with an HRH! You could have been a future Queen had you met and gotten together (and if you wanted that role of course)! Though I doubt you'd then be spending much time on Mumsnet ๐Ÿ˜‚

I've enjoyed reading your posts though explaining the culture and fashions!

AnnieSF · 13/05/2024 00:19

@cookienomstar I think it is insulting. It's like saying these people have no idea and they need two outsiders to show them how you respect women.

Very! I hope she wears more bold colours, her undertone does a lot for them.

See how the beige on the young man does nothing for him?

Gov Sanwolu here teasing that her Nigerian link is to Yoruba land and he's happy that her aso oke blends well! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ˜

Note the CDS holding his wife's hand in public beside the governor of Lagos state as he makes his public address. I'm so happy to see this! He's from Sokoto state, core north!

The Minister of Defense has announced that the govt will build a rehabilitation center for the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.
These are men who've been fighting Islamic terrorism that has been ravaging Nigeria with many students still in captivity. There was another attack in Kogi state this weekend.

Harry is a great diplomat. We're not told he's met the president but either he's secretly donated the funds or pricked the conscience of the military to build a long over due rehabilitation centre. I heard him speaking to someone in Kaduna at the hospital about the importance of a rehabilitation center and how it will improve their morale. I understand such speeches aren't recorded for official consumption but it's great to see what he talks about with these senior officers. An Arise new reporter reported from outside stating most news crew were allowed into the hospital.

That hospital is not for the faint of heart. I was worried when I heard he was visiting Kaduna. I don't think Meghan would've been able to compose herself if she'd visited it. So it's a good decision not to have taken her to KD.

The CDS did well to invite H&M. The Nigerian military will appreciate him for this. I just pray the politicians will do the right thing.
The CDS and his wife on Harry's left. His wife is beaming, all smiles! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Ofcourse, as is customary, Harry has an Etu cap to match Meghan's skirt. I'm sure her skirt has a buba.
