Being from a neuroscience + education background, people clinging tenaciously to their lack of biological understanding just really pisses me off. Off I go, leaving you to your own uninformed little theories about how the brain works...

Right you do. I’m not buying anything you’ve said about your background after the child bride comment. That’s just fucked.

43percentClaw · 10/05/2024 18:04

Not everyone on the internet is who they say they are. Not everyone is involved in what they say they are involved in.

I remain sceptical.

Thank you for announcing your departure though.

Telling.

Very masculine post

Definitely not someone that should be involved with young women or men.

jeffgoldblum · 10/05/2024 18:05

Indeed!

On the contrary, isn't it genuinely, truly fucked up to believe most 19 year old girls are mentally/emotionally matched to 30+ year old men?

That's putting an awful burden / trauma upon girls just bc they're female.

Parents like you are a safeguarding concern. I feel sorry for your DD(s) from the bottom of my heart!

However, again off I go as how you 2 conduct your own marriages and raise your DDs is none of my business.

You're not a girl when you're 19.
God, I hate this infantilising of women.
I had a boss call me a girl when I was about 47. Bloody pissed me off.

AliceOlive · 10/05/2024 18:18

19 year old women can drive, marry, join the military, make reproductive choices and many things beyond.

Talking about safeguarding them is the height of misogyny.

Again the obsession with my own personal life and family is not well received. It’s creepy in fact.

Of course he flaming doesn’t! Meghan has cut off her father, half-siblings and just about anyone else on her side apart from her mother.

Little bit more evidence that it’s just the internet and people can claim anything.

AliceOlive · 10/05/2024 18:42

Presumably not busy safeguarding adult women.

You've got the wrong end of the stick, PP mentioned age gap. Would be concerning about a 19 year old boy and an over 30 year old woman too

AnnieSF · 10/05/2024 18:52

@spritebottle why are you referring to other posters' children when you know nothing about them. That's a bit sick !

It depends, really. In the US it's boys and girls before 21, which I'm inclined to agree with. I call all my 19 year old students boys and girls. I do take your point that grown adult women are often called "girls" for no reason other than misogyny.

My point has nothing to do with underestimating a 19 year old female's agency just because she's female though. I would equally safeguard a 19 year old boy with a 30/40 year old woman. In both the 19 y/o female/male's case, ultimately I'd have to respect their decision, but I'm sure many posters would have reservations too.

The reason I mentioned females: the posters' logic is that "girls are more mature than boys (as they develop), so therefore many 19 year old females are more mature than 30+ year old males". Yes, they said "many".

By their logic also, they would safeguard their 19 year old DS (since males apparently lag behind in maturity by over a decade) but not their 19 year old DD! What on earth?!

That's biologically incorrect logic, and awful. You're putting a big burden on females to be much more mature than they are. It's the "hehe boys will be boys mentality" only inflicted in reverse upon girls.

I don't actually believe those posters would be happy with their 19 year old DDs marrying 30+ year old men though, which makes this thread a massive waste of my time!

Thank. You.
Ffs, most of us were independent of our parents at 19, and my kids certainly were. I have no idea what they got up to at uni and I don't want to find out.

She said "many 19 year old women have more sense and maturity than a man in his 30s" because male and female brains develop differently.

I don't know about her own DD, but she (apparently) believes most people's 19 year old DDs are mentally matched with men in their 30s, just because they're female. That's literally what she said.

From the first post I made here, I questioned the logic of holding 19 year old females to different protective standards than their male peers, so no backpedalling. I really don't understand this weird clique of posters (well, just 2-3 of them). In mainstream society, their point of view would be the sick ones, and they likely know it.

AliceOlive · 10/05/2024 19:02

That’s a fine bit of backpedaling there.

The thread title was about Harry, not any posters here, no matter how many times they say they’re leaving the thread and then return again. 🤣

AliceOlive · 10/05/2024 19:03

Doesn’t make the personal comments any less creepy though.
