Oy Charles - stay away from my sister or else!!

Why would you think this is how the conversation would have gone? Confused.

Her 'appropriateness' had obviously been thoroughly discussed. In those days they didn't marry any desperado/wannabe who set their sights on the status and the privilege. So at that stage someone should have stepped in.

Too late obvs but i find the Spencers current fangirling 'supporting' Harry laughable.

BemusedAmerican · 10/05/2024 14:10

No, the Sussex Squad are mafia enforcers.

If it was an arranged marriage, it was the Royal Family who arranged it, not Diana's sisters. Maybe Charles will regret his actions while poncing about his events?

It wasn’t unilaterally the Royal Family. Diana’s family were involved too

SluggyMuggy · 10/05/2024 14:11

People like you want to blame everyone but 32 year old Charles for not stopping Charles getting engaged to a teenager and marrying her.
Charles was 32 years old, not some young teenager himself. And yet he thought it was fine to marry a young shy and naive teenager who had no understanding that she was being used as a brood mare while Charles carried on having affairs.

I’m picturing Peggy Mitchell style shrieking 😂😂

I also don’t think it’s fair to blame the sisters who probably thought it was a great win for Diana

43percentClaw · 10/05/2024 14:13

In a world full of ridiculous posts…. Not a surprise to see who it was.

Diana had cold feet and was pressed into it by her family - ‘your face is on the tea towels’ etc.

They let her down. Her own kin.

They may be more worthy than the Boleyns. Of better lineage than the Boleyns.

The ambition and desire to be in the body of the court was just as strong.

How self serving.

Yes and for the 3rd time someone on the Spencer's side should have stepped in and protected her.

I've no doubt Charles regrets marrying her yes but the Spencers lamely going along with the whole circus was absolutely pathetic.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame her sisters but certainly her dad and Raine MUST have known her temperament and would have been able to see she was a poor match to serious and shy Charles

She wasn’t a teenager

she certainly wasn’t a young teenager

Oh fgs, it was 43 years ago!! Have you never made a mistake in your life?! With numerous people pushing it from both sides?

It's over, it's done, get over it.

I blame him for being pushed into a marriage but I blame her sisters more. They clearly knew her and how unsuited she was, they should have protected her.

SluggyMuggy · 10/05/2024 14:17

@YaMuvva She was a teenager when they got engaged. They married just after she turned 20.

How exciting for the Spencers! A royal wedding woo 🙄.

SluggyMuggy · 10/05/2024 14:19

I don't think Diana had even had a boyfriend before. Then this rich 32 year old man comes along and impresses her as a shy 19 year old. Dreadful. And I thought so at the time.

I know. Just awful isn't it. And her sister had already had a go 🤮.

TripleDaisySummer · 10/05/2024 14:29

I thought it was Queen mother and Diana maternal GM who were behind the match.

Maternal GM had also apparently pulled her teen daughter from boarding school when her lodger brought back Diana father - his family were worried about that aristocratic lady due to mental issue in her extended family and that engagement - and then suddenly Diana parents were engaged. You'd have though given how bad that match went she'd have left well alone.

Yes if they were behind it they of course wouldn't have known vulnerable Diana very well, her sisters <you'd hope> would.

I'm all for forgive and forget but the shit the Spencers are pulling now openly supporting Harry when they know what a difficult situation it is, is so inappropriate. Perhaps they all like the publicity or maybe it's guilt and shame.

jeffgoldblum · 10/05/2024 14:44

If Charles and Diana hadn't got married, we wouldn't have William or Harry now .

SluggyMuggy · 10/05/2024 14:54

@Janiie You think the Spencer side of the family should not support their nephew?
You think they should all just ignore him like his father has?
Charming.
I am glad Harry has lots of family he sees. From his Aunts, Uncles and cousins on the Spencer side. His cousins Eugenie and Beatrice and their families. And Doria and her family.

AliceOlive · 10/05/2024 14:54

She certainly looked shy but many 19 year old women have more sense and maturity than a man in his 30s.

43percentClaw · 10/05/2024 15:00

Waiting patiently for Eugenie and Beatrice to show us their lemons…

I think they should've supported their sister and stopped the shit show going ahead, they didn't.

To support their nephew who is practically estranged from all his loving family would seem inappropriate yes. Still, the Spencers seem an odd bunch didn't Charles miss how own dd's wedding??

SluggyMuggy · 10/05/2024 15:07

Harry is not estranged from most of his family. He sees his Aunts Uncles and cousins in the Spencer side, and Eugenie and Beatrice and their families. As well as Doria and all of her family.

ajandjjmum · 10/05/2024 15:08

Shame that they didn't invite all of Doria's family to their wedding, and concentrated instead on high profile strangers.
