would you hire a CEO before start up, surely they’d be CEO until it grows to big to cope. I suppose I assumed a small niche limited stock business to begin with.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 27/04/2024 00:13

I'm getting ads for King's College London Business School in this thread. Even the automated ads are trying to tell her something!

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/04/2024 05:43

Thanks for the link @Thedom OMG, that was incoherent. What an embarrassment for H&M... They had the world at their feet.

Solgrass · 27/04/2024 07:03

With most lifestyle brands- the face is the CEO. Like Goop, Flamingo Estate. Its because they are so passionate about their brands that they lead their companies. People buy into that.

This is part of the reason why it just feels like a money grift with Meghan.
Along with the show not being filmed in her home, the whole thing feels off and inauthentic.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 27/04/2024 08:03

Jar 18 has gone to a woman called Garcelle who appears in the Real Housewives programme. They appear to have met for the first time at that Variety Women of Power do last year.

So, so far not real high flyers? No Amal? No Michelle? No Oprah? But I suppose there is still time.

I don't know that time is on their side. Not young, not glamorous, not reached high levels in a career, not successful on the world stage, losing the connections that made them wealthy, made them well known, and opened doors.

Solgrass · 27/04/2024 08:27

The people whom we know she has sent the jam to- with all their millions of followers- has resulted in 23,000 insta follows to her account.

That shows she is completely off with the ‘influencers’ she has picked. Because it’s resulted in hardly any extra followers.

Also with Netflix coming in to appoint a CEO, Meghan will not cope with not being in control.
This means the venture could dissolve fast.

Thedom · 27/04/2024 09:17

I don't exactly understand Netflix appointing a CEO to run someone else's company, how does that work? Unless Netflix are going to branch out into a QVC type of programming with American Riveria Orchard as it's headline product line, otherwise why would they be putting in a CEO. On the face of it, you would have to question why the world's biggest streaming giant would be diversifying into a jam making business.

The other thing that doesn't make sense is why isn't she the CEO? there are plenty of consultancy companies that could guide her in getting it off the ground if they need the expertise, they themselves appear to have the bucks to invest in it, and I am sure plenty of their billionaire friends will support them. You have to question if they really do believe in the company they are trying to build.

Seemingly it’s a new type of deal that is to be similar to the deal that Joanna Gaines has with another network.

Im guessing the money that’s backing this venture, part of the deal is them saying Meghan can’t be CEO- because she’s not tried and tested.

At Goop, Gwyneth never took any outside money until years into the project. She built it up from a newsletter and created this huge business- something that people could see to invest in and invest in her.

Meghan doesn’t have that experience and I guess is too much of a risk, so the only way to get investment is to put a CEO with experience at the helm.

Serenster · 27/04/2024 09:50

I don’t think they really want a CEO? Anyone coming into that role with past experience at that level is going to be wanting to run the business themselves. And I can’t imagine that’s the reality - it will surely be taking Meghan’s ideas and making them happen? In which case they more likely want a good COO - someone to run production, distribution, customer experience etc - the nuts and bolts to actually make the business run successfully.

I also think they would be running the risk of having too many chiefs with another CEO. It seems to be a bit of a theme with the Sussexes. Lots of shiny job titles, no substance

Thedom · 27/04/2024 10:25

I had never heard of Joanna Gaines, just googled her, interesting. She also has a look of MM. They have been in business for more than 20 years. Their website is really nice only accessible Internationally with a VPN

The Gaineses also helm the media brand Magnolia, which encompasses the Magnolia E-commerce site, the Hearth & Hand with Magnolia collection of home decor items for Target, the lifestyle magazine Magnolia Journal, the Magnolia Network television channel on which Fixer Upper and its spinoff series now air, the Magnolia Realty real estate brokerage (originally established by the pair in 2003), and the Magnolia App.[2]

Gaines is also the New York Times bestselling author or co-author of seven books including cookbooks, memoirs, a home design book, and children's books.[3]

With regards to CEO or COO, maybe they need both, but they clearly need someone to drive the direction of the company, strategy, profitability, expansion, emerging from a start up to an established profitable company.

A COO, as you say, is the one dealing with day to day strategies.

Michelle and Amal wouldn't touch this. They are way, way out of Meghan's league.

WhataPithy · 27/04/2024 10:36

Kardashians, Real Housewives & polo players… all ultra rich and elitist. Quite far from oh I’m humanitarian me 🙄

EmpressOfTheThread · 27/04/2024 10:39

Joanna Gaines does look like Meghan.
As does that woman recipient of the jam who was collapsed on the ground with a dog. Can't remember her name.

I think Meghan hooked up with Harry because he offered her the chance to become a world famous woman with lots of clout. If she settled for a quiet life out of the public eye which they could definitely do, of what value is he in himself? He’s not great looking, he’s a whinger and he isn’t very clever. They have nothing in common apart from their kids. I think she would be very bored very quickly. In fact I suspect she is already bored.

I agree, although I think she massively miscalculated how easily his fame would transfer to other things. He really is only known for being a royal and the more she tries to attach that rep to her own personal efforts, the more average she looks for trying such an obvious bait and switch. The royals trade in a very particular type of heritage culture which she has roundly rejected. I think she's very much a product of the social media environment circa 2010. She seems to be an influencer through and through, it's as if she can't imagine any other way of life.

TBF we don't know that these haven't been sent their own jars - in fact I'd be surprised if they hadn't - but there's always the possibility they're embarrassed and don't want it mentioned

Lemon 🍋 Rat 🐀

EmpressOfTheThread · 27/04/2024 12:58

I think you're right, @OhMargaret , but what can she do now?
She's a trad wife, giving out the trophies and hawking jam.

OhMargaret · 27/04/2024 13:31

@EmpressOfTheThread dunno, it's quite interesting to watch though. I think this whole 'what is she going do now?' question is only thing keeping people interested

BemusedAmerican · 27/04/2024 13:41

I am wondering if Netflix will turn the show into one where they show Meghan trying to start her business and promote her brand interspersed with the cooking segments.

I am doubtful that she will get enough guests willing to demonstrate a meal. Based on her ability to make toast, she does not appear to be a compelling culinary speaker. I couldn't watch an hour of her demonstrating how to make a roast chicken (although I assume more lemons will appear).

EmpressOfTheThread · 27/04/2024 13:43

Could be. She tried out for a cooking show before she met Harry, but didn't get the gig.
That's changed now, I wonder why 🤔

BemusedAmerican · 27/04/2024 13:46

Maybe they are anticipating filming the drama between. M & the CEO.
