I though once you became a US citizen the US government has far reaching tax implications on anything you own or earn anywhere in the world?

Because of Harry's well publicised court case the one where he is demanding we provide security

I imagine his change of official residency is a financial decision based on tax status more than anything else.

If you're born in the USA or to a US citizen parent you get US citizenship automatically and you don't have to swear the oath of allegiance and promise to give up all foreign titles. If you become a naturalized US citizen, i.e. you're born a citizen of another country and you then take US citizenship, you have to go through a ceremony in which you raise your right hand and recite the Oath of Allegiance to the US flag. For this reason, I don't think Harry will ever become a US citizen, but he doesn't need to. Visas confer residency, as does being married to a US citizen and residing in the US as their spouse for a stipulated period of time (which he's now exceeded). Residency is aka having 'a green card', which Harry now qualifies for.

I should say too that if you remain resident in the US after getting your green card you don't need to ever become a citizen. The only real advantage to becoming a citizen at that point is that you get to vote and citizenship can't be taken away (except in the most extreme circumstances), whereas a green card can be revoked if, for instance, you've been found to have lied on your immigration forms

Harry made millions out of selling his and others life stories, he still does, calling people meanies because they don’t like what hes selling or for gossiping is rather strange as that his unique selling point. Even his court cases, what’s he going to disclose now, usually easy to contradict. So yes a man who when selling his needs for security as his heritage, his homeland and his children heritage (that is a cost to the uk tax payer) whilst simultaneously talking about US citizenship and changing documents to the US is for gossip as that’s what Harry is. He’s a reality star. I’m intrigued by Harry and he opened that door, he sold himself.

Erm, are we not allowed to dislike someone of colour just because they’re awful people? There’s many people, famous and not famous, of each sex and colour whom I really really dislike. But clearly people like you think I have to make an exception because someone is black. Ain’t happening. She’s a very unpleasant person, end of. What evidence do you have that she’s a very unpleasant person out of interest? I don’t know her from Adam (like most people) but I wondered if you had personal knowledge of her unpleasantness?

I have bumped into Harry as many times since he moved to the US as I did when he lived in the UK, zero, so this won't make any difference to me.

A huge amount of people. who watched their S. Africa interview, their Netflix show, listened to her podcast, read her interviews, came away with that impression.

She certainly came across as very unpleasant, mean and self obsessed, quite unlikeable.

Why do you think Harry is fighting his ( pointless) court case ?
He himself has said he never thought his security would be removed .
in their original statement/ word salad they said that given Harry’s position he would always be entitled to Met protection ( I am paraphrasing).
If they had had half in/ half out then they would have had a protected home, expenses for the official events they chose to do ( including Meghan’s expensive clothes ).
Pretty good deal but those pesky family members said no hence the 4 year tantrum.

They didn’t “ escape “ , they flounced off because they couldn’t get their own way !

Yes, people can remember what happened "four years ago" if you're meaning they moved out of the UK, they just have a different outlook to you.
They left the toxic shitshow that is the UK tabloid press behind and good on them. I wish them and their little family happiness in the US.

If it was so awful , so toxic , why did they want the half in half out ? Why do they cling to their titles which must be a constant reminder of that dreadful time ?

To be frank there is zero evidence she's an unpleasant person. The people who have said she is are estranged family members who are in bed with the gutter press. I wouldn't believe anyone of that calibre.
