King Charles support of his daughter(in law) is so very touching.

Please keep the comments positive and on topic. We have all had enough vitriol for weeks now.

That's nice, @smilesy

Mylovelygreendress · 23/03/2024 22:34

According to the madhouse that is Twitter, the video is fake as none of the flowers or grass moved 🤦‍♀️

Mylovelygreendress · 23/03/2024 22:35

Catherine is also being criticised for wearing an old jumper. Imagine not buy a new outfit to tell the world you have cancer ! 🤷‍♀️

StSwithinsDay · 23/03/2024 22:49

@Mylovelygreendress

Maybe just stop looking at Twitter. I am not sure that it's healthy for you.

LoreleiG · 23/03/2024 23:09

I thought it was a lovely thing to say too and assumed it was about her video, which must have been extremely hard to do.

WTF99 · 23/03/2024 23:20

I'm sick of cancer. I've had a version of breast cancer 3 times, each time progressively more serious. I currently have a dear friend.who is at end of life with cancer. It's a shock when it happens to you and yes, like Kate, i worried about my children and whether I would be there to guide them into adulthood. I've made it so far. Have I been brave? No.....I've been shit scared and.just getting on with it because the reality is that is what you have to do
Honestly, the Kate story has really upset me. as it shows rhat even the most privileged of us cannot escape this dreadful disease.
I wish he all the best. Sadly I know the hell she is going through

ArcaneWireless · 23/03/2024 23:21

Really @Mylovelygreendress ?

May I join you in a 🤦🏽‍♀️ of solidarity?!

A madhouse indeed.

What a load of twaddle. Kate has cancer, just like gazillions of others. Shes no more special than any of them.

Did your friends have the workld's press stalking them after diagnosis? Did they have to make a video and stay composed when inside she must be terrified? So I'm sorry, but she is a bit of a special case- if not a special person.

FluffyFanny · 23/03/2024 23:43

FFS! He's proud of her courage at how well she's handling her diagnosis as the whole world's media and public speculate about her health, her future, her marriage and whether or not she's hired a body double to go shopping and photoshopped her head onto her mothers day photo or not. I suspect the family have felt pressured to reveal the diagnosis and the video she released must have been very hard to do.

Anyone asking dumb questions about whether he's proud of all cancer patients shows a complete lack of empathy or understanding and just comes across as stupid!

Most cancer sufferers can just concentrate on their treatment without having to answer to the general public and be scrutinised in the press!

FramboiseRoyale · 24/03/2024 00:08

No such person as the King of England.

Strictly speaking, this is a true statement. That title disappeared with the Acts of Union in the early 18th century.

But even so, the fact that Kate is married to the next King of the United Kingdom, etc, etc., does not mean that she should have been compelled, as clearly she was by conspiracy theorists and rampant media speculation, to have to go public in such a way. Like the King, I also admire her courage.

Well of course it was posted from heaven Halo

Are people actually not proud of their loved ones who have had to deal with cancer. I don’t feel it for my own experience of cancer but I do for others, from those I love, to those I’ve lost, to people I hardly know. To a child that was on BBC this morning

FKAT · 24/03/2024 00:18

LibertyLover · 23/03/2024 20:49

The threads about this seem almost cultish (not quite sure what I mean- setting her up as a saint maybe)

We all probably know a 40 year old woman who has had cancer, and by the time women get to 50 then it is very common.

Getting cancer is part of everyday life. Let's not turn her into some kind of goddess. It is sad- as it is when anyone gets cancer, but it is what it is.
It doesnt make her a superstar.

Edited

It really isn't very common to get cancer at 50. I'm 50 with a wide social and professional circle and can count on the fingers of one hand anyone I know who had cancer by this age. I know more under 50s who have died of flu than cancer.

Age 70 and above - yes I can imagine it's more common.

Seizethedog · 24/03/2024 00:28

RitaIncognita · 23/03/2024 20:45

I took it to mean that he is proud of her courage in making that video. I've lost two close friends to cancer, one was the age Kate is now. Neither had to satisfy a baying public and media by talking about these private matters for all and sundry to view. Maybe that's what he meant.

Yes that’s what I took from it too. Anyone else in her position would at least have some privacy and be released from all the pressure she’s under to be seen to be working. All that ‘working from bed’ stuff we were told initially. Let the poor woman have some peace to rest to recover without being judged.

The whole twitter carry on this topic is the sign for me to get off twitter for good.
A few years ago I found twitter useful for finding out about events in different places in the world that the media didn't necessarily report on. You still had to wade through some bullshit but nothing like it is today.

MissTrip82 · 24/03/2024 04:52

Goodness some of these comments are very harsh. I think it’s not at all unusual to feel proud of how people you love are managing challenges? It doesn’t mean you don’t understand many other people in the world are also facing challenges.

It surprises me so many find this unusual or unacceptable. Pretty normal to me

Do you feel that the rich or upper class are somehow less human, even when sick with cancer?

pilates · 24/03/2024 06:49

I read as the King is proud of the interview not that she is dealing with cancer.

I am sorry for all the people on here who are suffering too.

But what is different is the wild accusations of across the world (husband having an affair, plastic surgery, anorexia, mental breakdown) to name but a few.

The editing of a photo which was blown out of proportion.

People saying photos/videos of her weren’t - they employed doubles.

Demanding they make statements because we own them- they belong to the taxpayer.

It felt like a contrived hate campaign.

On top of all of this, coming to terms with the cancer diagnosis.

And then making an interview to the world explaining why.

I hope she will be left in peace now.

Maireas · 24/03/2024 07:15

On the Royal Style thread someone has posted a lovely encounter with Kate.

Newestname002 · 24/03/2024 07:35

It was an affectionate comment about a beloved family member. He may be king but he's also a human being, this is his son's wife and mother to his grandchild. Can't see what he's said/done wrong, personally. 🌹

Newestname002 · 24/03/2024 07:37

grandchild = grandchildren 🌹

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 24/03/2024 07:41

I quite liked that Kate wore an old familiar jumper.

If you can't wear your favourite 'lucky' jumper when faced with the prospect of addressing the nation in such circumstances, when can you?

Very daunting but she did a great job. And King Charles acknowledged this.

Lindy2 · 24/03/2024 08:15

Kate's video is very heartfelt, dignified and brave. King Charles is rightly proud of his daughter in law and how well she handles the publicity she is subject to.

Thankfully I gave up Twitter/X a long time ago.

Is KC proud of every other cancer sufferer?
Are they all his family?*

No. But they are his subjects.

They are not. Britons have been citizens, not subjects for the past 40 years.
