You are quoting yourself?
I have spent the last 16 years living with cancer in different ways
DF- 3 types which finally went to a terminal diagnosis for one- multiple surgeries , chemo, radio, remote chemo more surgery etc
Me
DH- twice including 1 very rare (less than 10 in Uk each year ) Multiple surges, chemo, radio, radioacrive iodine
Me again possibly (How lucky am I)
I have spent weeks of my life spent in hospitals talking to other sufferers and their relatives. It is both sad, shocking and uplifting.
I have seen death (literally seen 2 strangers with cancer die in front of me) and joy.. Overwhelmingly people with cancer just buckle down and get on with it.
Cancer is part of life for so many people- it is a 50% chance in the UK at the moment and will increase further possibly.
Of course we need to feel compassion for those with cancer. But lets not create saints or martyrs. For me (and others may have a different view) that makes is so much harder for those with cancer to get through each day.
