King Charles support of his daughter(in law) is so very touching.

Please keep the comments positive and on topic. We have all had enough vitriol for weeks now.

King Charles is 'so proud' of 'beloved' Kate after cancer news, says palace - BBC News

King Charles, who himself is being treated for cancer, says he is "so proud" of his "beloved" daughter-in-law's courage.

I think I heard that Anne Franke was fascinated with Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose, I hope they brought her some comfort in the darkest of times. As for the cardboard cut outs of Charles and Kate, being in bad taste and ‘unhinged’ behaviour, it was just a couple of royal super fans and you could tell it was done with love and not malice, in fact I bet it would have made Kate smile, the cut outs were nice pictures of both of them. You also often see people wearing cardboard masks of celebrities it’s no big deal. After all the actual malice, hate and trolling Catherine has received these past few weeks I really don’t think she would be remotely bothered at all.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 31/03/2024 21:58

You are absolutely right, @BigWillyLittleTodger , she was a fan of the young princesses and that is part of the exhibition. I think Anne was 3 years younger than Elizabeth, and it brought a lump to my throat knowing she could have lived as long and could still be living today.

You are also correct about the masks. Lots of men especially wear them at sporting events, especially at the cricket. They don't get the same denigration though for being fans or super fans. That criticism seems to be reserved for women.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 31/03/2024 22:25

Yes @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar and it’s particularly the royal fans who get the most derision, no one would bat an eyelid at a Taylor Swift mask or a cut out, the fan would not be told they are unhinged, but royalty fans, they are fair game apparently.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 31/03/2024 22:29

Here are the pictures Anne Franke had on her wall in the secret annexe, like I said before, I really hope they brought her some comfort.

Thanks for posting this picture @BigWillyLittleTodger . I've traveled all over the world, but standing in the little annex is one of the most extraordinary experiences I've ever had, and the saddest. That picture takes me back to Anne's magazine pictures, still on the wall.

One person's ‘unhinged’ is another’s ‘total fucking loon’. Royalty does seem to bring it out in people.

AIBU to think it's seriously unhinged to prop a life-size cardboard cutout of Kate outside the Church?!! These ladies look nice and well-meaning but wtf? Especially considering they had to get the cardboard cutout custom made somewhere and the printing/die cutting costs of something that size:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13256911/King-Charles-arrives-Easter-Sunday-service-St-Georges-Chapel-cancer-stricken-monarch-makes-gentle-return-public-life.html

The cut outs seem insensitive and tasteless to me. It’s nothing like wearing masks at a sporting event or concert. It’s nothing like having a cut out of someone you admire in your house. It’s a church service where the two people who were the cutouts are having treatment for cancer. One wasn’t there, presumably due to her diagnosis and treatment. I think it’s inappropriate and these people lack boundaries.

Theres a time and place and this wasn’t it. If people had cutouts and masks at the jubilee or a royal wedding of people who were well, I’d personally still think they’re a bit mad but each to their own. This was inappropriate and I question their empathy levels motives.

TimeToCallItANight · 01/04/2024 02:17

*and motives.

I asked a few pages pack how people know Harry asked Camilla to leave the room when he met Charles, no one has answered I don’t think, unless I’ve missed it. Can anyone answer? Ty

Petronella Wyatt reported that.

Prince Harry ‘did not want to be in the same room as the Queen’ – more fool him

With Queen Camilla’s star on the rise, the Duke of Sussex would be wise to bury the hatchet

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/columnists/2024/02/12/prince-harry-king-charles-camilla-reconciliation/

TimeToCallItANight · 01/04/2024 03:02

Thank you, I appreciate you answering.

She’s a journalist who says she has known Camilla for many years. Did she hear this direct from Camilla or through hearsay I wonder.

If Camilla wanted that information out there, it seems cowardly and game playing to put it out there through a journalist friend. So either Camilla is unpleasant and cowardly and asked her journalist friend to write it, the friend has reported it against without Camillas permission or it’s hearsay and could be bollocks.

The journalist clearly doesn’t like Harry so I’ll take it with a bucket of salt.

I don’t think it’s uncommon to want to speak to an ill parent without a step parent there even if relationships are ok. Obviously if it did happen, Charles gets the final say on what he wants as he is the ill person in the centre of it all. If anyone else doesn’t like his choice, whether that’s Camilla or Harry, it’s tough.

What mess that family are in.

I don’t know why I suddenly thought of lughole. Similarly “bonce” - does anyone say that nowadays? Or fizog (sp?). I presume the latter was from WWI and troops hearing “visage” - but I’ve really no idea.

How interesting! Love lug hole and nonce, but have never before heard the word “fizog”. Yes re “visage” being a likely explanation, but also, I vaguely remember from an O-Level poem that in English we have the pretentious word “physiognomy”. Maybe I better look that up to check my memory!

shockthemonkey · 01/04/2024 08:03

bonce not nonce. Autocorrect is so bossy

RegimentalSturgeon · 01/04/2024 09:51

‘Fizog’ (phizog) is a contraction of physiognomy.

ETA: Which I now see @shockthemonkey has already mentioned)

upinaballoon · 01/04/2024 10:23

"I don't think it's uncommon to want to speak to an ill parent without a step parent there even if relationships are ok."

IF that's how it was, he could have been happy to chat to both of them for a little while and then just ask for a private moment with Charles. Why not? But something as straightforward as that couldn't be an attention-seeking headline, whereas something like 'Harry refuses to speak to Camilla' is, and they've got to sell papers or clicks.

ArcaneWireless · 01/04/2024 10:38

I don’t think the family are in a mess at all.

It is not uncommon for children to take a dislike to their parent’s new partner.

You would think, given that Harry is now an adult, he could put any differences aside due to his father’s illness. And probably did.

I don’t think for a moment that Camilla will have asked the journalist to spread the story. She would not want to cause her husband further distress surely. Or indeed W.

I also hope it is not a leak from H’s side. Again not to cause his father distress. It could however be yet another fuck you to Camilla to show he still doesn’t like her.

Who knows?

Personally - probably just a nonsense.

If you mean: they are going through a rough patch health-wise, with several key players incapaciated and concern for the future, I agree.

But otherwise I would say they're a united bunch, pulling together brilliantly, all singing from the same hymn-sheet (and any other cliches you care to add!) and showing a united face to the world - and accruing some sincere respect for it too.

The only people who might fairly be said to be up the infamous creek at the moment are Harry (and possibly Meghan - I don't know) and of course, Uncle Andy, but they're no longer working royals and definitely on the outer edges of the solar system.

I doubt Kate and Charles gave the cut outs a second thought, they have seen it all before and I’m sure having cancer hasn’t given them a sense of humour bypass, I don’t think you need be so offended on their behalf, much better cheerful cardboard cut outs than a candlelight vigil praying for them.

musthorse · 01/04/2024 19:48

@BigWillyLittleTodger it's all British eccentricity with the Royals at its best. 💂🏼🇬🇧🤴🫅🏰

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 02/04/2024 08:39

I’m sure Catherine would prefer cardboard cut outs from people who like her and believe in the worth of the RF, as a bit of light relief from the tonnes of hatred thrown in her direction and that of her family and that is still being thrown from certain quarters on SM. As one if the most famous women in the world, she has no doubt experienced much worse than a couple of misguided fans doing something tasteless.

AliceOlive · 02/04/2024 12:48

I just looked and was surprised at how inexpensive these life-size cutouts are online. ~ $70 in US.

My cousin had the Pope at her children’s first communion party. Is that tackier than the above? 😂

No! I definitely want a Papal one for the eternal blessings. Otherwise maybe Pierce Brosnan 😉
I'm reminded of Phoebe in Friends and her cut out of Evander Holyfield!
