King Charles so proud of Princess Catherine

King Charles support of his daughter(in law) is so very touching.

Please keep the comments positive and on topic. We have all had enough vitriol for weeks now.

King Charles is 'so proud' of 'beloved' Kate after cancer news, says palace - BBC News

King Charles, who himself is being treated for cancer, says he is "so proud" of his "beloved" daughter-in-law's courage.

I don’t know why I suddenly thought of lughole. Similarly “bonce” - does anyone say that nowadays? Or fizog (sp?). I presume the latter was from WWI and troops hearing “visage” - but I’ve really no idea.

I wasn't around in WW1 but I certainly know what my fizog is, and my bonce. Are you old enough to remember Flanders and Swann (Swan?) - 'pity the poor old rhino with the bodger on the bonce'? Blow the whistle to stop me. I've deviated from the original words on the card/title of the thread.

I can see that Harry had an impulse to come over to see his father, and all to the good if it fitted in with other things he was going to do over on this side of the Atlantic.
The idea that he wanted to speak to his father without Camilla being there is something that I'll believe if she tells me that's how it was.
He can easily keep in touch with Charles by other means than visits in person, especially as he would be coming from aeroplanes and airports, and what did we learn about the transmission of disease when Covid was heavily upon us?
.

I can well understand that Charles has been careful about how many people he should mix with at present. I believe I've heard that his going to church tomorrow is going to be a bit more careful, if that's the right word, so that he doesn't catch anything except Easter joy and eggs.

That caught me a bit flower. Although it explains it perfectly in my eyes.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/03/2024 11:49

Wonder why he hasn't been back to visit his father? Was that fleeting 45 minutes after the diagnoses the sum total?

I'm pretty sure Harry said he'd be back in the UK - isn't he due here for some Invictus thing? - and hoped to pop in to see the family

Though whether they'll welcome him is anyone's guess ...

If he wears a mask and puts stuff on his hands and stays on the other side of the room - like the time when the cinemas re-opened gingerly after Covid lockdown.

MaturingCheeseball · 30/03/2024 07:59

If Harry wanted Camilla to leave the room, then the most likely reason was that he wanted to bend Charles’s ear. (For those who might like to report, that’s an expression and I was not suggesting that Harry might be grabbing a royal lughole and twisting it in a violent manner.)

It would have ben a slap in the face for Camilla to have been asked to scram.

Literal violence

I was more thinking why hasn't he been back again? It's been some weeks now since the cancer announcement, you'd have thought he'd manage to carve out a bit of time for a proper visit....

Can you say for certain he hasn't?

AIBU to think it's seriously unhinged to prop a life-size cardboard cutout of Kate outside the Church?!! These ladies look nice and well-meaning but wtf? Especially considering they had to get the cardboard cutout custom made somewhere and the printing/die cutting costs of something that size:

Completely unhinged. She should be doing crosswords in a nice room in a secure wing somewhere.

There's always been Royal fans who love to go to the max on occasions. Unhinged? I don't think that's a very nice word to use about anyone just because they do something you don't like unless they are a serial murderer.

Maybe tasteless is a better one. Imagine having to miss an important event due to cancer treatment and then some total strangers thought it would be a great idea to set up a lifesized cardboard cutout of you in that location. Everyone is aware of the current situation and the fact she requested privacy so her absence should be have been handled with discretion.

Some of the extreme Royalists have created parasocial relationships to the point they seem to forget they are real people and see the Royals as characters in a show. Not unlike the crazed conspiracy theorists on X. Bringing a fake cardboard version of Kate to an event she had to miss due to cancer treatment seems incredibly attention seeking for themselves.

Well said. Very tasteless.

Although also unhinged. Oddball.

Teddleshon · 31/03/2024 18:37

It seems that somehow both the ardent pro royalists and the equally anrdent antis sometimes forget they are actual people.

ArcaneWireless · 31/03/2024 18:49

I didn’t care for the cut outs. I don’t care for ‘unhinged’ or talk of secure wings either.

Call it tasteless. Call it odd. Aye. Maybes.

But unless it was done just to get their coupon on the telly, I can’t help but think it was done with a good heart.

All that said, it was lovely to see the King and Queen at church.

ArcaneWireless · 31/03/2024 18:57

@Salemforcuddles

That butternut squash was magnificent. We had it with halloumi because I forgot to get chicken.

If you haven’t tried it - do. Honest. It was lovely.

I agree. It wouldn’t be something I would
do, but I don’t think any malice was meant. It’s sort of on a par with having a collection of royal plates or teapots on display. Not everyone’s taste, but just the way some show their support of the Royals. I’m sure the ladies didn’t intend to offend, just show that they are fans of the King and Princess in their own way

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 31/03/2024 19:32

I'm side eying my teens, with their card board cut outs of their favourite sports stars and their posters of bands they love. And then there's all the influencers with their websites and vlogs who want you to want to dress and act like them. And of course the gazillion fandom sites sighing over what people wear, do, date, go etc. Mostly populated by people with nothing but good wishes for the subjects of their affection, and wanting a little bit of the magic they see in them.

It's all just human nature, isn't it? Emulation of and love for these stars and wanting their depictions around you. Sometimes it's filling a hole because human relationships haven't happened in real life for the person for some reason. I went to the Anne Frank museum last year, and there's an exhibition focussed on all the stars she had on her wall, cut out from magazines and lovingly written about. Moving and oh so human. Obviously there's a time and place and good taste to be considered. But harmless and certainly not a reason for psychiatric intervention; unless you want to marry your cardboard cut out, and then let's hope we can summon some pity and not derision.

Salemforcuddles · 31/03/2024 20:10

I'll be trying more of the recipes as it really was lovely

ArcaneWireless · 31/03/2024 20:51

I didn’t get my arse in gear really so Mam Blanc’s chocolate mousse is going to be made in the week.

mamwireless is going to get fig and blackberry pain perdu on her birthday.

All the recipes seem fairly simple to make and although mine won’t be quite so pretty, I’ve no doubt it’ll be delicious.I was really trickit with that squash recipe.

I don’t love it usually but I really loved that.

Salemforcuddles · 31/03/2024 20:59

I best come to yours and taste them, just to make sure they are okay
