I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

One can’t say @MrsDanversGlidesAgain

Well Republicans don't want to behead them, they want them to go away and live a private life, and for them to be replaced by someone who has chosen to be there. Its Royalists who insist on keeping these people in captivity like pets. It would be far better for them and William and Kates children if they lived a normal privileged life and had autonomy to choose their own career.

The RF have been around for over 1000 years. They are not treated as caged animals. Royalists accepted that she wasn’t going to be around until Easter. If people had just left her alone she wouldn’t have had to do a video.
While I do appreciate not every British person wants them and would prefer a president there are many that enjoy the pomp and ceremony.

Turning the country into a republic is a massive step which would take years, a bit like Brexit and look how that turned out.

Behave. It's not as if she jumped an NHS waiting list and plenty of people choose to go private.

That's the point, others don't have a choice - most people don't.

CwmYoy · 23/03/2024 13:25

As someone who has been in her position I pleaded on here for her to be left alone.

The press and the public have shown how ugly they can be - and some are posters on here.

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain Wouldn't we like to know!

Oh right, just deleted? who knew dairy products were so subversive.

AliceOlive · 23/03/2024 13:26

Threatening even.

I found it incredibly uncomfortable to see others speculating, it was clear there was a medical issue, and that had been explained, the time taken for the Princess to recover was obviously concerning and I'll never understand how anyone could speculate during such a time.

The media isn't an excuse. Now is a good time for anyone who did post, joke, speculate, or spread cruel rumours to look at what that's says about their own character. I think many people have a lot of work to do on themselves, and this is another clear example of the type of people we're unfortunately surrounded with in society.

I hope those who contributed feel awful because they are.

Totally agree.

And what I also hated was that apparently we "deserved" to know more than the original statement. Deserved??!!

Salemforcuddles · 23/03/2024 13:31

At times like this it can be interesting to observe people show you who they are, I've learned quite a lot about several posters on here

AliceOlive · 23/03/2024 13:32

Oh well, we can always keep talking shit about bad behavior of public figures instead.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 23/03/2024 13:32

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain I think the MN kill notice (ha!) said Cheese had run its course. Unlike the eleventy billion threads about William being a sexual deviant/cheater/lazy/violent. It was a little corner of sanity.

And some of what we learned has been very good. I enjoy your posts immensely!

Ellieonthebeach · 23/03/2024 13:33

@GoonieGang I'm not a Royalist and I honestly could not understand all the hoo-ha over a woman who had made it clear she was going to be recovering from an op and had even given timescales.

Whatever your politics it's unpleasant to use another persons health for entertainment.

Geebray · 23/03/2024 13:35

Helpisso · 23/03/2024 11:39

Ok OP at least you have had the balls to come on here and apologise ,and yes I recognise your name from previous threads ! I really wouldn’t be worrying too much about the poor little souls who have woken up today feeling guilty for all the vile comments they have aimed at an extremely unwell lady.
I can remember quite a few of their names because their comments were so repulsive.
Anyway lesson learned and let’s just hope that POW hasn’t been looking on MN recently !

The OP has not apologised. The OP has blamed everybody else, and suggested that her fellow ghouls should "take care of themselves" 🤔

JSMill · 23/03/2024 13:35

Cupine · 23/03/2024 13:17

The many posts on here speculating about the health of the Princess, her marriage, her children, sharing baseless rumours, making cruel comments, it’s been a complete and utter disgrace.

The fact they’ve been left to stand meanwhile entire threads about another female with a title are deleted without hesitation. It just goes to show it has nothing to do with the actual content of those threads. It’s shameful.

I feel really disappointed by the way Mumsnet has handled it. There have been so many nasty comments about the Wales that have been allowed to stand. Even before we knew Catherine had cancer, we knew she was a mum of young children who was very ill. What happened to the 'spirit of Mumsnet'? The only positive thing I can say is that I've stopped wasting so much time on Mumsnet because of the nastiness.

Were the big media ghouls standing with a gun to your head demanding you switch off any critical thinking you might possess over what you were being 'told' and post what you did?

No, they weren't. You're (presumably) a grown up. Take some personal responsibility for what you posted that you now regret.

This.

Yeah, you don’t have to be a royalist to be a decent person. Plenty here commenting with sanity are not.

Its Royalists who insist on keeping these people in captivity like pets. It would be far better for them and William and Kates children if they lived a normal privileged life and had autonomy to choose their own career

I wonder if William sees it as his career and not just his duty? Kate certainly chose it knowingly.

It isn’t a career that most would choose, even less now probably after the last few weeks. We have all seen the intrusion and abuse over many decades. We have seen what they do and what they endure. Those who say they have not? I don’t believe a word of it.

But caged pets? That is quite belittling and insulting.

Some of us do in fact feel a sense of duty, a sense of responsibility. It isn’t for everyone clearly but to denigrate people for believing that they do? Now that’s a shame and makes me wonder why I bother.

Well my response would be that that would be for posters to decide by errrr.....not posting and letting it disappear naturally. I'm a bit 🙄about that as a reason, but let's not get sucked into speculation, eh?

Salemforcuddles · 23/03/2024 13:42

@AliceOlive and vice versa. Perhaps a coffee thread would be more acceptable to mn as cheese doesn't seem to be their thing
