I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

The RF have been around for over 1000 years. They are not treated as caged animals. Royalists accepted that she wasn’t going to be around until Easter. If people had just left her alone she wouldn’t have had to do a video.
While I do appreciate not every British person wants them and would prefer a president there are many that enjoy the pomp and ceremony.

Turning the country into a republic is a massive step which would take years, a bit like Brexit and look how that turned out.

That's the point, others don't have a choice - most people don't.

As someone who has been in her position I pleaded on here for her to be left alone.

The press and the public have shown how ugly they can be - and some are posters on here.

At times like this it can be interesting to observe people show you who they are, I've learned quite a lot about several posters on here

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain I think the MN kill notice (ha!) said Cheese had run its course. Unlike the eleventy billion threads about William being a sexual deviant/cheater/lazy/violent. It was a little corner of sanity.

And some of what we learned has been very good. I enjoy your posts immensely!

@GoonieGang I'm not a Royalist and I honestly could not understand all the hoo-ha over a woman who had made it clear she was going to be recovering from an op and had even given timescales.

Whatever your politics it's unpleasant to use another persons health for entertainment.

The OP has not apologised. The OP has blamed everybody else, and suggested that her fellow ghouls should "take care of themselves" 🤔

I feel really disappointed by the way Mumsnet has handled it. There have been so many nasty comments about the Wales that have been allowed to stand. Even before we knew Catherine had cancer, we knew she was a mum of young children who was very ill. What happened to the 'spirit of Mumsnet'? The only positive thing I can say is that I've stopped wasting so much time on Mumsnet because of the nastiness.

Were the big media ghouls standing with a gun to your head demanding you switch off any critical thinking you might possess over what you were being 'told' and post what you did?

No, they weren't. You're (presumably) a grown up. Take some personal responsibility for what you posted that you now regret.

Its Royalists who insist on keeping these people in captivity like pets. It would be far better for them and William and Kates children if they lived a normal privileged life and had autonomy to choose their own career

I wonder if William sees it as his career and not just his duty? Kate certainly chose it knowingly.

It isn’t a career that most would choose, even less now probably after the last few weeks. We have all seen the intrusion and abuse over many decades. We have seen what they do and what they endure. Those who say they have not? I don’t believe a word of it.

But caged pets? That is quite belittling and insulting.

Some of us do in fact feel a sense of duty, a sense of responsibility. It isn’t for everyone clearly but to denigrate people for believing that they do? Now that’s a shame and makes me wonder why I bother.

Well my response would be that that would be for posters to decide by errrr.....not posting and letting it disappear naturally. I'm a bit 🙄about that as a reason, but let's not get sucked into speculation, eh?
