I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

Just wow. Not a part of you can understand why Kate wasn’t ready to reveal and wanted to post a healthy picture. Not a single cell

Not really. Care to enlighten us?

On the off chance that you're doing that thing of just posting without engaging one brain cell.....just read that back to yourself.

S-l-o-w-l-y.

Actually absorb the words. Be a sponge. 😂

Yes, I am patronising you.

Can you really not imagine that someone who has just undergone surgery, gone through recovery, then, received a cancer diagnosis and is undergoing chemotherapy... may not want to post a current photograph?

There is literally not one brain cell in your head that can entertain that possibility?

Perhaps this the same mentality as the OP, who says she enjoys "robust mental health". Now I can't work out the difference between people randomly showing off or gaslighting.

Royalists don’t need scraps and I would imagine most would accepted the request for a bit of privacy, Especially after Diana but no, haters will still hate and demand ‘proof’
We get you aren’t a fan so why would you want said morsels to be thrown if you didn’t believe the conspiracy theories?

I am not a royalist it is true but it seemed to me that many 'royalists' were in fact the ones fanning the flames under the guise of 'concern'. Sometimes it is better for a person in the public eye to give a little and retain control by damping down the rumour mill than to leave it unattended so it becomes a blaze. Tactically it makes sense though of course there are some people for whom nothing will ever be enough. King Charles' announcement was short and sweet, open and encouraging others to get tested. No firestorm for him because there was transparency. Some wierdos act almost as though these people are known to them personally or feel that they can 'interpret' thoughts and motivations etc. If people truly want it all to die down and give Kate 'peace/space/recovery time' the best thing they can do is just stop talking about it.

Fine @dandeliondandy but we're taking about the conjecture, rumours, offensive remarks and vile statements made about them, particularly in the last two weeks.

No it doesn't.
We're challenging thousands of posts of crapola that have appeared on here. That's not fuelling the vile rumour mongers.

But it does because it just rakes over the coals of all the horrid things and keeps Kate active in social media threads which quite probably is the last thing the woman actually wants.

Uricon2 · 23/03/2024 19:20

TwoWithCurls · 23/03/2024 17:18

Why are you so offended by the speculation? If you didn't want to speculate, that's fine (boring, believe everything you're told sort of fine), don't join those threads. But no, we don't care if you don't like it.

What part of the speculation about affairs, divorce, plastic surgery, domestic violence from William, secret children from him/her did you think was OK @TwoWithCurls ? There is much, much more to chose from, but it now transpires she is having chemo

Isn't she "lounging in the lap of luxury" though, @dandeliondandy ?

Honestly, I am not particularly for or against the royals except that I think they cost too much money and I don't care that much beyond wishing Kate a good recovery as I would any fellow human being so it is neither here nor there for me if one identifies as a republican or a royalist. However those that are ardent royal fans are often the ones that talk the most about the royal family and speculate the most. As for 'evidence', how silly! All that has been discussed is speculation and I doubt that anyone takes it hugely seriously including the royal family themselves. It is all hot air and much ado about nothing. the royal family do a dance with their PR and the public and it seems there have been a few mis-steps on this one which have resulted in some frankly bonkers statements!

Well she does. She has a luxurious lifestyle that most can only dream of and will be receiving the very best of everything. Nice of you to look back though my posts though!

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 19:05

No, it was just announced as a "personal matter".

However The Guardian and other respectable outlets reported at the time that it was not a cause for alarm and that the Princess continued to be doing well.

Yes, a useful function of MN and no problem, thanks. All the privilege in the world will not save your life if you are unlucky, though or from pain and fear. Know that as a fact.

Nono22972 · 23/03/2024 19:01

It's not a yes but.

I get that many Wales fans are rightfully angry at the way they've been hounded by social media trolls and the media (and still are) but we can feel bad for them while also acknowledging that KP threw gasoline on a fire and handled this situation very poorly.

Are we not allowed to have an opinion now?

Edited

With his history of laziness, KP and them telling us that Kate is getting better, of course people were going to criticise him for not working while his dad and wife are dealing with health issues

Yes, lovely and neutral there. Please don't be so disingenuous as to blame "Kensington Palace". You decided a situation, and judged him (and her) on it.

Indeed. To reassure people that she was not in a critical condition.

Of course it won't. Nobody can cheat the grim reaper but there is a world of difference in being able to access the very best oncologists, cutting edge treatments, no delays in care, no money worries or work worries or domestic chores or even childcare if one doesn't feel like it and some poor woman with an identical diagnosis/prognosis on some sink estate with no money and no help.

I feel that those who don’t mind the RF and bear them no ill will are not the ones who have made this the circus it became.
It is those who don’t have any respect for the family who have fuelled the hysteria and hatred.
Charles is King and doesn’t have young school age children.
William was allowed to concentrate on his wife and family but we all know he gets stick for putting his family first.
I agree it’s a natural human thing to speculate and I bet we are all guilty of it within our own four walls. It’s another thing to start speculating about someone publicly.
She’s come out and set the record straight.
If folk want to discuss it that’s fine but it doesn’t need to be derogatory. There is no need to put anyone down, regardless of status in life.

TwoWithCurls · 23/03/2024 19:32

@Uricon2 it's all okay. It's just a bunch of random people chatting on the internet about a multimillionaire megastar. It's a storm in a teacup.

And precisely because she has come out and made a short film to set the record straight in which she asked for time and space to recover that this shouldn't be talked about much more. It will die down if only people give it a chance to.

It's just a bunch of people chatting about a mother of a young family who has had to tell them she has cancer.
