I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

Withdrawn at poster's request

Yes, it's a case of previously "We know what is really going on" now turned to "We were somehow right all along because Kensington Palace" 🙄

William cancelling the memorial reading was a purely private affair. It was a private event, not part of his public role. It was nobody's business but his and the family of the deceased. The howling about the cancellation and vilification of him being workshy more than anything showed the indecency of those posters who feel they have ownership of the RF members and their private/personal business. The man lost his grandparents, god father and good friend all in a relatively short space of time, and has the prospect of losing his father and wife. Not a single decent thought went through the heads of the people spewing their bile against him.

Though I did call William out for his workshy reputation, KP didn't help when they said that Kate is getting better.

They could've just said that her condition was more complicated than expected and she needed more time to rest.

Then, the farm shop video came out of William and a woman, who I still believe is Kate, looking good, walking fast, carrying a bag so I thought: "Kate is clearly getting better. Why isn't William working?"

Ready to show some humility yet? Or is it all "Yes but, yes but"?

And you would expect adults to know these things (about social media). We are taught from childhood to be kind, not to gossip about people, to consider others' feelings, but when it comes to social media and fame, all bets are off and anything goes.
People who were not kind, did gossip and lapped up the meanness towards someone else deserve to feel ashamed and guilty. Adults should not be mean to others and should not tolerate others doing so.

This is totally correct
People maybe influenced by the media but we all have an inner voice and they can’t just blame the media for their mean spirited gossip. Kindness isn’t just something to teach your children

Catherine was healing from her operation, something she had to fully recover from before starting chemo. She was getting better - from her operation. How could they say anything more than that without fueling a further frenzy? Remember, they were holding off from any formal announcement of Catherine's cancer until the kids finished school and they could tell them first.

They were spotted at a farm shop on a Saturday morning. Is he not allowed to have a weekend off work like most people? He's been working consistently, and I imagine working behind the scenes on essential stuff when not in front of the media's cameras. Seriously, do we have to go over all this again. Just because you can't see him, that doesn't mean he's not working.

No such thing if one is in the public eye. therefore better to throw a few morsels in a controlled fashion to the beasts than wait for them to consume one!

Royalists don’t need scraps and I would imagine most would accepted the request for a bit of privacy, Especially after Diana but no, haters will still hate and demand ‘proof’
We get you aren’t a fan so why would you want said morsels to be thrown if you didn’t believe the conspiracy theories?

Humility? I didn't engage to the conspiracy theories. In fact, I kept saying that her condition was probably worse than we realise and I was right.

As for William, I only judged the situation based on what we knew and were told.

With his history of laziness, KP and them telling us that Kate is getting better, of course people were going to criticise him for not working while his dad and wife are dealing with health issues

Though, I do feel really bad for criticising William when he was dealing with a lot. You never truly know what people go through

Oh yes, that would have totally shut down all speculation and conspiracies 🙄

so I thought: "Kate is clearly getting better. Why isn't William working?"

He was working though, wasn't he?

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 18:50

Very true.
Poor William, what character assassination.

myrtleWilson · 23/03/2024 18:51

@Nono22972 but he was working then. Kate left hospital on 29th January, his first external engagement after that was on 7th February and he then did 17 external engagements up until Thursday

Nono22972 · 23/03/2024 18:51

He's been working consistently, and I imagine working behind the scenes on essential stuff when not in front of the media's cameras.

I've been saying this for years, I'm convinced that he works behind the scenes but we don't know because he rarely talks about it or shows us. He could easily release a photo or a short video of him working

Royals have to be seen to be believed and unfortunately for William, him having some of the lowest engagements numbers and not showing his behind the scenes work has allowed people to create the now accepted narrative that he's lazy and doesn't work

Yes but yes but yes but

Just sit down, look at yourself in a mirror, and acknowledge your feelings of shame.

I often think that's what people on MN want teachers to do. Short days, long holidays - you're working in the evening and weekends? Video or it doesn't happen.

I really appreciate when someone who almost seems reasonable in a post drops in a code word or phrase. It helps to separate the wheat from the chaff.

HebburnPokemon · 23/03/2024 18:59

Just wow. Not a part of you can understand why Kate wasn’t ready to reveal and wanted to post a healthy picture. Not a single cell

Not really. Care to enlighten us?

HebburnPokemon · 23/03/2024 19:00

in this instance she doesn't have the freedom to be invisible. That's the price she and her family pays for the lives they lead.

This. It’s a very privileged life

It's not a yes but.

I get that many Wales fans are rightfully angry at the way they've been hounded by social media trolls and the media (and still are) but we can feel bad for them while also acknowledging that KP threw gasoline on a fire and handled this situation very poorly.

Are we not allowed to have an opinion now?

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 19:02

I think there's a difference between being invisible and wanting privacy and space because you've had a serious medical procedure.

Lie? Have I missed something?

My recollection is that they let it be known at the time that his absence was nothing to do with Catherine. Which we now know to be untrue

But the "it's not Kate" led to a lot of discussion eg about the possibility that it was one of the DC that needed a parent ASAP (scenarios discussed were things like broken bone that needed pinning or appendicitis - needed GA and DC would want a parent there, but not something unduly worrying). Plus of course some vv batshit conspiracy theories about the late Thomas Kingston.

But maybe my recollection of "it's not Kate" is wrong though.

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 19:04

I swear to god some people wanted pictures of her on a trolley in a hospital gown, tubed up and with an enlarged picture of the scarring.
"She's no right to privacy because she chose to marry a royal!"

No, it was just announced as a "personal matter".
