Breaking news.

I work in cancer support… chemo is rarely preventative, she’s significantly poorly.

That is not true.
Maybe your work hasn't covered this?

Many treatments are now adjuvant therapy. They are used to prevent further cancer even when nothing has shown up as having spread beyond the primary site.

What? It's been standard treatment to have chemo even when the cancer hasn't spread beyond the primary site for years?

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 22/03/2024 18:39

@MNHQ is this really in the spirit of Mumsnet?

nappyvalley2024 · 22/03/2024 18:40

So shocked, Kate is so healthy and athletic, the last person you would think to get cancer.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 22/03/2024 18:40

Jeez, there are some absolute arseholes on this thread.

Halloweenrainbow · 22/03/2024 18:38

They said initially that her surgery was not cancer related and now there's this diagnosis and treatment that the BBC describe as "preventative". Are we to assume that the cancer was an incidental finding and that its caught early?

Also to the people saying conspiracy theorists should be ashamed - actually many people were spot-on that there was something more to this situation than we were being told.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

I don't understand what that means, how can it be preventative? I watched her statement, she was very brave to do that and on her own. She said she had cancer so I don't think it's preventative treatment.

FloorWipes · 22/03/2024 18:20

This seems like more dodgy speculation to me, but now with a cancer flavour

That was my thinking as well, we don't need people to start speculating what type of cancer

EdithStourton · 22/03/2024 18:41

Poor bloody woman.

All the speculation has been utterly grim.

MuggedByReality · 22/03/2024 18:41

I’m just here for the nauseatingly insincere outpourings of concern from hypocritical guilt-ridden posters who were slagging Kate off yesterday. 🍿

I don't think it really matters to anyone beyond her and her family?

Milkandnosugarplease · 22/03/2024 18:41

Kim Kardashian’s tweet about looking for Kate makes her look like a proper twat now

You won't get it. They will be too busy backpeddling and justifying their miserable existences.

Gowlett · 22/03/2024 18:42

Doseofreality, no I don’t know her personally. Obviously.
But, I’m hugely shocked & saddened by this news.

Kate is an icon. A mother. A wife. A much admired woman.
Like William’s late mother, people feel a connection to her.

Jellycats4life · 22/03/2024 18:42

It’s quite simple. The cancer was removed, but just in case there are cells circulating they do preventative chemo.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 22/03/2024 18:43

TwigletsAndRadishes · 22/03/2024 18:33

Well I hope this means people will finally give the poor woman a break.

All you tittle tattling idiots who have spent weeks spreading and fueling rumours about affairs, a love child, marriage breakdowns, mental health breakdowns, calling William lazy for pulling out of engagements and suggesting that Kate is milking a minor procedure to get loads of time of duty, I hope you feel thoroughly ashamed of yourselves now.

As if this family isn't going through enough (bearing in mind William's father has a recent cancer diagnosis also) all this gossip and nasty speculation will have contributed to them feeling a whole lot worse.

I hope you are all proud of yourselves, you absolute fuckers.

This bears repeating.

RosePombear · 22/03/2024 18:43

I really really feel for her and William. What an awful situation to be in just being diagnosed with cancer alone, but to have people creating some absurd rumours and picking apart her family and relationship on top of that must’ve been so difficult. I hope she has had a speedy recovery.

Supergirl1958 · 22/03/2024 18:43

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 22/03/2024 18:24

I hope she recovers well.
I just wish that everyone with cancer had the same excellent treatment she will have.
Unfortunately our NHS is at breaking point so they won’t. I think that’s what the previous poster means.

Why does it have to be an issue! She’s got cancer and that’s bad enough! Lets
leave the treatment out of it! Grinds my gears it has to be an issue!

LaBorde · 22/03/2024 18:44

Doseofreality · 22/03/2024 18:19

The treatment for the cancer that the Royals get is special, Joe Public would have to wait weeks for tests.

Cancer is cancer, privileged people have options regarding their treatment. That is a fact. Kate won’t be in a postcode lottery for meds.

Cancer doesn’t give you options.

My DH has private healthcare. Even had an op at The London clinic last year. Hasn’t stopped his cancer, but he is about to go back into the NHS system for a clinical trial.

He also has had very good treatment via our NHS GP, and when he has had to be admitted to A&E by ambulance.

jeffgoldblum · 22/03/2024 18:44

Enough! Leave her alone now!

@nappyvalley2024 Cancer doesn't discriminate if one good thing should come out of this news is that anyone can be affected by cancer no one is immune from the disease

opentoadvice88 · 22/03/2024 18:44

Poor lass. She will have better treatment than Joe Bloggs but no less shocking and sad for her & the family.

I can’t imagine how William feels with both his dad and wife unwell. On a human level, he’s in the trenches.

WaitingForMojo · 22/03/2024 18:44

DrJoanAllenby · 22/03/2024 18:28

She hasn't been hounded. She has security guards and homes where she can live in peace and quiet.

Why would she be worried about comments from strangers on social media and the internet?

She might be worried that whilst her children are dealing with the news, they are going to come across / hear via the grapevine, all the distasteful gossip about their parents, their marriage, and unfounded speculation about her prognosis? Ffs.

Katemiddletonsphotoshopper · 22/03/2024 18:45

“Also to the people saying conspiracy theorists should be ashamed - actually many people were spot-on that there was something more to this situation than we were being told”

this. From the point they found out about the cancer (supposedly when William missed the memorial) the palace have handled this in an incredibly shifty manner which made it clear something weird was going on. Yes, the theories have been insane and some people have gone too far, but it shows people pick up on things being handled differently.

wish Kate a speedy recovery.

crumblingschools · 22/03/2024 18:45

A friend of mine had breast cancer, they removed the small lump, no mastectomy required. Surgeons convinced had removed all cancerous cells but she still had chemo. Cancer free for over 5 years now.

Never mind treatment - they will still feel the same anguish that anyone in their position does!
