I have cancer myself and also lost my mum to cancer when I was 7.
Feel so bad for Kate and her family.
Agree that all those speculators and nasty rumour mongers should be thoroughly ashamed.

@Blackcats7 . Wishing you all the best for your treatment 💐💐

Causei · 22/03/2024 22:00

I commented that society had gone to the gutters re all the speculation. Too many entitled people with Main Character Syndrome.

Wishing Kate a speedy recovery. Along with everyone else fighting that awful disease.

I wondered when the people should hang their heads in shame posts would start
You can have every sympathy in the world for a young mum suffering with cancer and still comment that a video alleging she was sighted wasn't her . Less of the histrionics

It was her, the BBC ran the video twice on the news at 6 tonight saying that it was a video of William and Kate, in fact they showed it twice and repeated it was William and Kate, if you are still in any doubt it’s available on iPlayer.

Moonlightdust · 22/03/2024 22:04

Poor family going through this. What a dignified speech she made. The press and vile people on social media should be ashamed of their relentless speculation over her absence.

Bunnycat101 · 22/03/2024 22:04

There are still some nutters on twitter saying it’s AI and she’s already dead, it’s the Covid vaccine and a heap of other stuff. You’d think they’d have stopped by now but no. The PR could have been handled better no doubt but she’s clearly going through a shit time and it must have taken a lot of restraint to not say something snarky.

madeinmanc · 22/03/2024 22:07

Nothing's changed since the lifetime of Princess Diana, if anything the pressure on them is more intense. No lessons have been learned.

On one of the many recent speculative threads someone commented that the royal family cost each one of us around 77p in taxes. Amazing how much access to private and personal information to which some people feel entitled in return for that 77p isn’t it ?

JohnSt1 · 22/03/2024 22:07

It's very sad if she felt she had to make this statement in person.

I'm sure she was dreading her children hearing all the nonsense that has been all over the Internet.

I had hoped she was laughing at all the bullshit speculation, and would be back in the public eye on schedule. At least now she might be left alone to recover. The way this woman has been treated online is a disgrace.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 22/03/2024 22:09

I really do have the greatest empathy for Catherine and her family. This must be a very difficult time for all involved.

I do, however, believe it's possible to be critical of both the Royal Family as an institution, and of how Kensington Palace handled all this.

I think what threw the conspiracy theorists into overdrive was the fake Mother's Day Photo. Before then I think most people were generally happy with the "she's had surgery and will return after Easter" explanation. For KP to release a fake photo and then land the blame onto Catherine when she was unwell was abhorrent. It also had people questioning why they'd felt the need to release a fake photograph at all. There was no need to release any kind of photo nfor Mother's Day. If they wanted to release anything a statement saying she wished a happy Mother's Day to all and she was convalescing at home would have been understood.

I remain very critical of how this entire affair was handled (and it could have been handled so much better without releasing details of Catherine's private medical issues) and I still don't believe in the institution of the Royal Family. That doesn't exclude me for feeling sympathy and wishing all the best for Catherine, and her family as human beings.

HesterRoon · 22/03/2024 22:11

Tbh, all the speculation only happened because there was complete blackout from what was previously a highly visible public figure and then a fake photo. Their advisers could’ve handled it better. It’s normal for public figures to share information on their health-people who think they’re like the rest of us are naive. Imagine if the PM disappeared for weeks without anything after a short initial statement-there would be endless speculation. I remember Mo Mowlam got a lot of comments prior to her revelation of a brain tumour diagnosis. People are generally sympathetic once they’re aware-speculating on something doing on is hardly crime of the century.

BionicEar · 22/03/2024 22:12

An incredibly difficult and challenging time for the Royal Family, and those that they are close to, dealing with not one but three members of their family having Cancer (King Charles, Princess of Wales and the Duchess of York).

Total respect to William and Kate for withholding the information until they were ready. Although I suspect they would have liked for it to have been held at bay for longer for the sakes of their children. Those poor children’s world will never feel the same, now that the fear of losing their Mum will be in their minds. As a person who lost a parent to cancer at a young age, the day I was told they had cancer, changed me forever from a carefree innocent child to one who always had in the back of their mind that they could lose their parent.

Let hope they’ve caught it early enough and that Kate will win her battle against Cancer.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 22/03/2024 22:16

with the old “fighting cancer” milarky. It’s not a bloody fight, it’s stressful, painful, demanding, all consuming… but to say people die becuase they “loose” the fight, or they don’t die becuase they “battled” or “won an fight “ marks out those that died from cancer as being less determined, strong willed, etc. and that’s complete bollocks.

I absolutely agree!

I too have undergone Surgery similar to Kate. Was told originally all gone ,but there may be some still left .Going to discuss Options at next appt. I dont like talking about it ,even to family ATM .Cant imagine how poor Kate must be feeling right now

Wishing you all the best dotty! What a thing to go through! Xx

Phoebefail · 22/03/2024 22:22

How sad is this news for a young family! Terrible for them.
I am much older than the PoW, I had tests over the past 18 months and had "all clear" in Feb. So relieved even though I am on treatment.
Blessings and Prayers for them all especially the Prince with his Father ill as well.

Heard this comment many times, and I do understand that putting 'responsibility' on the sufferer for 'fighting' is so wrong.

And yes, medically speaking, it is very clear that a very positive attitude can truly help.

thegirlwithemousyhair · 22/03/2024 22:31

That she's been bullied into doing this is a sign of our stinking times. Social and mainstream media are vile cess pits. Vulgar, crass thickos and sociopaths everywhere. Theyve driven literacy, intelligence and compassion into the toilet. Our culture sucks and there are too many brain dead gossip pornographers sitting on their fat arses doing nothing but talking shit on twitter all day. Either that or theyve got mental health problems.

Superlambaanana · 22/03/2024 22:33

Why does the DM insist on calling the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton? I don't think Princess Diana got called Diana Spencer after she married Charles.

AzureBlue99 · 22/03/2024 22:34

I had a cancer scare recently. It all turned out well for me. I can't imagine how scared Kate is, and how awful it is that she had to spill her private medical business in public just to shut up all the idiots who have made fun, or who have simply been nosy. It is not just the idiots in the UK. Idiocy is global these days.

Twaddle and the role of the PM is not even remotely comparable.

I could not agree with this more, very succinctly put. To all those baying that all the Catherine threads be deleted, I honestly believe that MN has, on the whole, been respectful and more interested in discussing the shoddy PR rather than speculating on salacious rumours and demanding private medical information. Or at least the threads that I’ve been on. What I find more worrying is the rabid determination of many posters to shut down any kind of measured, reasonable and to be expected discussion regarding the absence of a key public figure.

I really feel for William as well. Mother died young, Dad has cancer, now his wife.

This and I’m no royalist and I could never have married into it. Poor woman and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if given the hospital story about people accessing her data was ‘killed’ as in it disappeared and went out of the headlines - yesterday or the day before that unsavoury people both in the media and also who accessed her medical records were trying to force her hand to say something.

Pretty crappy for C & C and now W & C to have gone through all the family dirty washing in the last 2 years and now this. They all have had a rubbish few years (and I’m not a royalist) and Charles was alleged to have said to his children something like - don’t make my last few years a misery and unfortunately it has been a total misery all around.

Catherine has behaved throughout her relationship with William with total dignity and has never responded to allegations such as that she made her sister in law cry etc or the affairs rumours - must be a totally stressful life. I wish her the best.
