The royal family

Harry and Meghan are so petty and bitter

They knew that announcing Meghan's new venture would be big news. So they dropped it 45 minutes before William was due to speak yesterday evening. At an awards ceremony dedicated to harry and William's mother's memory.

But that wasn't good enough. Oh no. They then announced the winner of their own awards. While the Diana awards were still going on and Prince William was handing out prizes.

Is there no level this petty, bitter couple won't sink to?!

I'm wondering if they knew about the Princess of Wales and her cancer diagnosis

Im pretty sure I read that Harry had said they didn’t know

Of course they weren't told. They are leakier than a colander. Their pet sleazebag Scobie would have been all over the press with portentous, headline grabbing hints and/or revelations.

I read a comment on twitter, "America Riveria Orchard - selling poisoned apples". These are the kind of comments they are going to have to contend with, and this was before Catherine made the announcement, I think it will be much worse now.

I also read there were some major anomalies with their followers, with numbers jumping upwards in the thousands in a very short space of time and then dropping again in the thousands, speculation was that it was possibly bots being filtered out by Insta.

pinkpale · 24/03/2024 19:22

I just had a look on Instagram and as you all say there's just a beige banner.
It honestly looks like she decided to start an instagram page one night after a few glasses of wine and then forgot she'd done it!

And this is why I think they left it 4 years too late.

They - she - are just too polarising and unpopular now. Who thinks 'domestic goddess' when they see Meghan? She should have started building up a brand when she first went to California. The pandemic would actually have been a great time to do that. But there's been so much unpleasantness and controversy since then. She won't be able to rely on her fanatical fans if she wants to make money from this business, if and when it launches.

themessygarden · 24/03/2024 19:31

I agree IcedPurple, I think it will be a massive uphill battle for them to make anything of it, the brand name itself is so at odds with her image and style that it already seems to be off on the back foot, then add the black hole of zero content, it appears to be really poorly executed for a new company launch.

Because Meghan wanted to be a bigshot producer and podcaster, not just shilling jam. How times have moved on...

She's just trying to replicate the Duchy business in the USA. She believes she is royalty and wants to be known as the Queen of America.

Well then she's got a big think coming. The Duchy business had to be bailed out by Waitrose. It didn't make any money.

And that could well have been a possibility.
If the pair of them had got off their humps and not waited for the world to come to them.

A bit of hard graft hurts no one.

A bit of grift certainly does.

They had folk chomping at the bit for them.

They ignored the folk, bought the websites for all things chomp and bit the hands that fed them.

If they ever wonder where it all went wrong, they don’t have that far to look.

If you're going to do it , do it properly!
She should have gone with duchess's delicacies!

The problem is, whatever they do now, they've missed the boat.

Producers? Podcasters? Tried that, failed.

Global philanthropists? Not so much.

Jam? You need to build up a wholesome/aspirational brand. Which is actually very difficult, even before you bodge your petty launch and it turns out that your SIL was undergoing chemotherapy at the time you did that.

These two need to actually make money. The Spare money will start running out after the paperback is published. And it seems like that is their only income.

Presumably when there's something on it to see, Cathy?

And there still isn't, so heaven only knows what's happening with it

Yes indeed, Puzzled or maybe when something to buy materialises?

I don't know anything about Instagram (are there alerts when anything changes on a followed account f'rinstance?) but it just seems to have fallen a bit flat given the massive following the previous IG account had coupled with the kind of press coverage most launches could only dream of.

CathyorClaire · 24/03/2024 20:38

The Spare money will start running out after the paperback is published

The paperback seems to be significantly delayed. It's still not due until June, some eighteen months after the hardback. Most PB versions seem to launch far sooner from what I've seen and after the runaway success of the hardback (plus copies apparently now being left all over) you have to wonder if there's much appetite for it anyway.

Yes, even as I posted that, I started to wonder if there would be much appetite/need for the paperback.

If you've had the best selling non-fiction hardback of all time (I believe), and all the copies are now discounted or gone to charity shops, who's going to buy the paperback?

I listened to it, read by Prince Harry himself. It made it all even more personal.

And also, of course, the world has moved on since the Spare hardback was published.

In a nutshell.

They dabbled in this and that, but showed no real interest in anything other than signing the deals and whining about Harry's family.

Trouble is, those deals demand hard work and have an expiry date. Nobody is going to be waving big cheques in their faces any more.

And their royal gossip is stale and jaded at this stage. Since they did their flounce, the royal family has changed so much, and they are not a part of it.

Other than fodder for tabloid and social media gossip, what is their role in public life?
