Harry and Meghan are so petty and bitter

They knew that announcing Meghan's new venture would be big news. So they dropped it 45 minutes before William was due to speak yesterday evening. At an awards ceremony dedicated to harry and William's mother's memory.

But that wasn't good enough. Oh no. They then announced the winner of their own awards. While the Diana awards were still going on and Prince William was handing out prizes.

Is there no level this petty, bitter couple won't sink to?!

I suppose it will all become clear when she actually er has something to sell

AliceOlive · 20/03/2024 15:03

I saw that Santa Barbara has trademarked itself as “American Riviera”.

I guess the name will make more sense to people that live in those California-obsessed bubbles.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 20/03/2024 15:13

I thought The Cut was quite pro the Sussexes. That was somewhat snarky. The comments are pretty funny though, especially the one about the name sounding like two retirement homes getting married and having a child 😂

themessygarden · 20/03/2024 15:16

The Cut article is spot on, the comments are a bit 😳.

It is interesting that, in the little we have seen so far of the marketing, makes it look like her target market is actually a real Stepford Wife, arranging flowers, making jam in a glorious kitchen, floating around the house in a ball gown and with a brand name that could outdo any stepford wife .... and from someone who has been throwing digs about Stepford Wives for a longtime now.

This has been deleted by MNHQ for breaking our Talk Guidelines.

The thing was founded only very recently and stock doesn't appear overnight, so it'll be watch and see if/when anything more appears

I agree, though, that it might have been worth waiting until there was something to offer, but if you're right about the motivation for doing it now I guess the chance would have been missed

She said it herself on one of her podcasts before Omid used it, she may have also used the term in the Oprah interview, but not sure about that.

"Meghan Markle discussed what it's like to let her "curly hair" down alongside the Canadian prime minister's wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, and not succumb to the pressures of "mom guilt" or stereotypical "Stepford Wife" living, on her latest podcast episode."

It is another example of how she just blabs stuff that she thinks might make her look good, definitely no 'walking the talk' for MM.

Serenster · 20/03/2024 15:54

From one of Meghan’s Archetypes episodes:

You can pretend to be the perfect version like a Stepford wife and still have the exact same outcome as someone who is being authentically truly themselves and wouldn’t you rather live with a version of yourself where you can look in the mirror at night?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 20/03/2024 15:54

It's very trad wife, and I think that's a bit more of a movement in the US than the UK (hopefully a US poster can confirm). It's not very feminist, it's not very connected to the common woman and it's not conveying any universal message of women being in a sisterhood and linked through our similarities. It's very much about being an exceptional women based on material possessions. Which is all well and good, but then, have a think about the mental health of women who work hard and see these sorts of images of an unobtainable life, and think about what you are saying to younger women about what to aspire to. In short, stop being a hypocrite and fully embrace your status conveyed by marriage and marriage alone.

I am no Stepford Wife.
I am no-one’s wife now.

I am this. But brown.

I will hold someone’s hand for a Netflix deal and an emerald tiara.

Even if that hand belongs to a girny red head.

MarmaladeMarkle · 20/03/2024 16:15

Trad wife, feminist, career woman, humanitarian, Hollywood A lister, republican, duchess, I get the impression she wants us to believe that she is all of those things.

Of course she isn't, and of course it isn't possible for anyone to be, because many are contradictory. But it makes for a very muddled Meghan brand that instead of appealing to everyone, appeals to no one

Meghan in her Netflix documentary, stressing how laid back and Californian she is: "Even when William and Kate came over and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, and I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot"

Meghan in the launch video for American Riviera Orchard: I walk around my 16-bathroom mansion in a floor length black ball gown.

Why is there nothing on the Insta page yet? There's a fine line between being excited and keen and bored and pissed off. It's like those outlet handbag shops who make you queue outside in a line when there is no one inside. I know it's to ramp up the hype but when will this start? Does anyone know?

AliceOlive · 20/03/2024 16:32

A woman calling another a stepford wife when they aren’t comfortable with your overfamiliarity comes across like a man calling a woman who doesn’t accept their advances a lesbian.

She should have 'picked a lane' 4 years ago, when she still had a lot of support and there was so much interest in what she and Harry would do next. But since then she has, as you say, very much muddled her 'brand'. Launching a new initiative with no product doesn't help. Neither does having no fewer than three websites between Archewell, 'The Office of the Duke and Duchess' and now this Orchard Riviera thing, none of which has much by way of substance.

True - although has she ever claimed to be republican? Her and Harry are so royal, they absolutely love it.

MarmaladeMarkle · 20/03/2024 18:32

Anti-royal rather than republican perhaps, at least that’s what we led to believe PF (post flounce)
Of course not so much the case these days said Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex

Sussurations · 20/03/2024 18:39

I’m shocked Marmalade, shouldn’t you refer to her as ‘Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex’ (even though it’s not actually correct)

I love how the tabloids get people so angry.

And that people think it's their own thoughts and opinion and not that they have swallowed the propaganda.

AliceOlive · 20/03/2024 19:23

Does that mean the announcement launching American Riviera Orchard did not occur during the Diana awards? Tabloid lies?
