Harry and Meghan are so petty and bitter

They knew that announcing Meghan's new venture would be big news. So they dropped it 45 minutes before William was due to speak yesterday evening. At an awards ceremony dedicated to harry and William's mother's memory.

But that wasn't good enough. Oh no. They then announced the winner of their own awards. While the Diana awards were still going on and Prince William was handing out prizes.

Is there no level this petty, bitter couple won't sink to?!

You seem to know her, or why would you post such a catty remark?

You realise I’m referring to Christie Teigen, not Meghan, right?

And are you aware of how Teigen has behaved? Vile messages to a 16 yr old, telling them they should kill themselves. Multiple targeting and trolling of other celebrities, including a 9 yr old child. Lots of deeply unpleasant messages - so bad that even in the world of showbiz bitchiness, she became persona non grata.

Teigen herself has admitted her behaviour was awful.

Just checking - that’s who you’re sticking up for?

And my “catty” comment was just honesty - Teigen fell onto my radar because of the enormous outcry about her terrible behaviour. I knew she was married to John Legend but I had no idea that she’d released cookery books. Her vile bullying overshadowed her success and it’s all I’ve seen mentioned with regards to her. It’s not “catty” to be unaware of a (fairly minor) celebrity’s career.

Btw - it’s not conjecture or speculation. All the bullying and offensive messages and tweets have been published online. Teigen has admitted she wrote them. You don’t need to be Teigen’s bestie to know what she’s said and done.

If you don’t know the history, Google is your friend.

If you do know Teigen’s history and still think she’s a good egg, then there’s nothing further to say.

I am gobsmacked that posters are loving Richard Osman books!
I love love love the man but his books, seriously?!
I read a massive amount and I barely got through the first one!
The murder club members are so boring! As a lighthearted read I suppose fine, I just prefer something a bit more meaty!

However I love Richard the man

Nearly everything that Meghan Markle wears sells out so I think she can sell clothes. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s very successful with ARO. The one thing I think might hurt it that is beyond her control is the state of the US economy. (I don’t think the UK is her main target market anyway). I’d certainly watch her cooking show, but I’m a fan of Nigella cooking shows so I’d be comparing.

Also the thing about her being a ‘diva’. I listened to that podcast and yes she is taken aback when Mariah said Meghan had her Diva moments. But Meghan left it in. She didn’t cut it out: I believe if she was the humorless narcissist some people are determined to present her as repetitively, she would have cut that bit out of what was her own podcast show.

Because libraries were forced to buy it, for example. It's showing up little free libraries and book swaps as people try to unload it. A copy showed up in my laundry room. It's still there.

Why were ‘libraries forced to buy’ Harry’s book? Or how were they ‘forced’?

Sincere question.

Why were ‘libraries forced to buy’ Harry’s book? Or how were they ‘forced’?

Sincere question.

Because Penguin DELIBERATELY set out to make their book POPULAR and libraries, desperate to avoid having to stock a BOOK, didn’t have time to change their entire remit, despite desperate scrambling and meetings at the very top to find something, anything they could do instead. “More 10p photocopying? Another 1980s-era computer with a slow operating system? Extra spinny chairs? No? Oh, GOD, looks like a couple of copies of Spare it is, I’m FUMING. Whose idea was it we stock books? The bastard.”

But 'diva' isn't the same as being a 'humourless narcissist', is it? There might be an overlap!

Diva has overtones of glamour, perfectionism and stardom as well as difficulty. I think some self-regarding people might be flattered by it. Narcissism is about attention-seeking, manipulation and victim-hood born of insecurity and jealousy, and undermining other people to make yourself look and feel better.

Yes, I don’t think she has all that much zest for doing much - and I really don’t think anyone would blame her if she just settled down and concentrated on the children. But she wants to be seen to be doing stuff and for people to admire and envy her.

Totally! It's all about the 'optics'. And as pps have said, she's OK at starting things - having an idea - but can she sustain it and put in the work?

Having said that, if she can - then fair enough. I'd have more respect for Meghan if she did this kind of thing (which personally I think is crap, but hey) off her own bat and shut up about her once-royal connection. At least it's not making an awful, meaningless speech or appearing at an awards ceremony which only ever happened because of her connection to Harry, and hopefully that part of it is fading fast.

MaturingCheeseball · 19/03/2024 08:58

Agree that “I’m a diva, me!” leans towards people not thinking it’s an insult. The “diva” logo is on socks, Prosecco glasses, birthday cards… (see Home Bargains).

@Roussette - we agree! I think Richard Osman’s retirement community observations about a certain type of middle-class pensioner are Spot On. I’ve only read book one, but the rest of the book… the plot was convoluted and on the whole not great.

BemusedAmerican · 19/03/2024 13:53

@Wickedlywearynamechange publishers release their first print numbers and the publicity campaign. When you see a huge release and a big PR campaign, you have to buy or lease a lot of print copies to anticipate demand. You also need ebook licenses. If you do a quick Google, you will see how US publishers massively overcharge libraries for ebook licenses. The good thing about leasing print is that when you have multiple copies sitting on the shelf you can send them back to the distributor.

BemusedAmerican · 19/03/2024 14:11

I don't know anything about UK libraries but where I am from, we spend quite a bit on languages other than English and audiobook licenses. Audiobooks are popular with families and people who have an easier time listening than reading. Audible is now refusing to license their audio titles to libraries. Also more older adults are reading ebooks since you can increase the font on your ebook reader.

I've heard that UK libraries are very underfunded.

I know, right?

The first book of "detecting" involved the investigators wandering up to suspects, who apropos of nothing monologued about how they didn't do it, and precisely what they did do, and why.

I do adore Richard Osman though. He was so lovely and fair-minded on Taskmaster.

Roussette · 19/03/2024 14:13

Yes, it really was quite laughable! My DH gave up halfway through!

Off topic but this reminded me of a funny incident from way back, before charity shops etc got off the ground with second-hand books.

My boss, a voracious reader, didn't bother with the library but instead bought second-hand novels from a stall from the weekly market and returned them the following week. One day she didn't find anything to her taste (too flimsy, trivial, light etc) so asked the stallholder if he had anything a bit more 'meaty'? He said he'd look out some suitable titles for her and bring them the next week.

When she got there, he looked a but furtive and pulled out a bag of porno novels from under the stall! She was mortified. I always smile when someone describes a book as meaty now - even when I know what they mean!

Rousette is reading porn now???? Well this is a turn up for the books 🤣

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 19/03/2024 17:54

Oh god, that's dinner needing to be re-planned, I'm putting the sausages back into the freezer now.

Allaboutthegrift · 19/03/2024 18:01

I would imagine that it is much less shocking reading porn than watching porn these days.

You never know who might pop up in one.

I live near the St George's Retirement village - it's a lovely area. Great pub there called the Cock Inn at Wivelsfield!

I think the premature launch has allowed some fake products to go online too.
