Spanish press reporting Kate was extremely ill

I don’t know how credible this is because I saw it on Twitter…

But apparently the media in Spain have reported that Catherine’s surgery was not actually planned, did not go smoothly and she was actually very sick/possibly in a coma for a period of time. And there has been a press blackout in the UK.

Could there be any truth in this? I’m struggling to see WHY something like that would be ‘hidden’ anyway 🤔

They released a photo with her head super-imposed in it 🤷‍♀️(and said it was taken last week)

Edited

That photo was released after lots and lots and lots of speculation on social media, national and foreign press. We are still well within the original timescale.

Mirabai · 13/03/2024 14:49

Yes there wasn’t an injunction, but it was a blackout in the sense that all the news teams knew the truth and didn’t publish.

That wouldn’t work today.

It worked for Harry in Afghanistan too - until Australian magazine New Idea, who wasn’t part of the “insider list” found out the story and published it. The Drudge Report picked up on New Idea’s story and ran with it. I think he got a few months in secret, though?

enchantedsquirrelwood · 13/03/2024 15:27

A good friend of mine had a uterine repair and she was back at work within a fortnight

My mum has just had a pelvic floor repair and the recovery period for a young fit woman is 6 weeks and can be three months and beyond. You can probably do some work at a desk at home after two weeks.

I think Catherine had a prolapse too.

TeaGinandFags · 13/03/2024 15:28

Surely, whatever the truth of the matter is, isn't it HER business and no one else's?

Please, let the poor woman recuperate in peace!

vaporrub · 13/03/2024 10:07

I know it’s another Kate thread but I’d not seen much on MN about the Spanish media thing specifically

Perhaps because we all know its absolute made up crap & are respecting her privacy like the Palace asked

Ffs this relentless speculation and ridiculous theories are awful. Its sport for so many ignoranf ghouls but this is a woman's health were talking about

It's awful

As a disabled person I feel about cross about it all. There’s such a massive stigma around illness/disability that KP can’t even talk about it.

The rest of the world don’t get to take months off work and not tell their employer why. I honestly think whatever the issue, talking about it would make a real statement in terms of role modelling anti-stigma around disability and illness.

The rest of the world don’t get to take months off work and not tell their employer why.

No - but that information would be kept between the individual, their doctorr and HR.

Would you like t think that the world and his wife were poring over your private medical details?

Spanish (and other non-UK) press is also widely reporting that she wasn't ill at all, but is about to ask for a divorce as William has been having an affair with the mother of one of the page boys at their wedding. She has been repeatedly named as someone who is herself in divorce proceedings from her own husband.
All speculations. Just let it rest.

They only had two page boys, and both their mothers are knocking on, age wise. One is William’s former Nanny, Tiggy Legge Bourke. I’d be very shocked if it were either of them!

AdriftAbroad1 · 13/03/2024 15:35

I believed entirely that Catherine was recuperating. I thought no more of it.

I live in Spain. I do now think there is a problem in the marriage. (I think minor surgery happened) but who knows? Either way:poor Catherine.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 13/03/2024 15:38

Most of the stories from the foreign press, Instagram and the like are total and utter garbage. Made up half truths, outright lies and speculation.
One claimed that Camilla is pregnant. The woman is 76 ffs and had a hysterectomy years ago, oh and her big plan is to take the throne if King Charles first, she murdered Diana, this was always her plan all along you see. Total bullshit, yet some nut jobs actually believe this is true. The hate for her is disgusting.
Some of it is filtering down to Catherine now, because she isn’t playing ball by giving the Diana groupies their daily photo fix of the latest Disney princess pedestal they’ve put her on.

Whatever surgery Catherine has had is none of our business. Whether it was gyne or not she is 8 weeks post surgery and is obviously still recovering.

I am guessing these 'reports', or reports of these 'reports' are referring to the page boys at the Coronation, not William and Kate's wedding. I'll leave you to surmise who they are referring to.

It's just the same old gossip that's been doing the rounds for a few years now. Like I said above, no different or better informed than what you read here. This idea that the 'foreign press' has all these well sourced stories which the British press are too scared to release just doesn't ring true.

Also, in the UK, if you have a “Fit Note”from a healthcare professional certifying that you are not fit for work, your employer cannot compel you to tell them the reason why. If you don’t want to disclose it, you dont have to. They have to treat the note as evidence that you can’t work, and offer you sickness benefits according to your contract.

WishIMite, I think I can understand where you are coming from. Of course Kate can't be forced into being a poster girl for whatever ails her. But I do think that the manipulation of the photo is suggestive of an unfortunate 'imperfections should be hidden from view' narrative. Obviously with hindsight it would have been better not to release the photo. If Kate herself thinks she has to project a perfect image, that's rather sad. If others do, and she was persuaded into the subterfuge, that's even worse.

But I agree she doesn't need to give "us" details. Catherine's "employer" does know. Insisting we are her employer and should therefore know her business is the same as saying teachers should let all taxpayers know.

But this isn't about the details of her illness.

MaturingCheeseball · 13/03/2024 15:43

Everyone has the right to privacy - whether that be sexuality or medical details. Just because one person likes to be open about their condition doesn’t mean that everyone must share. Plenty of famous people have kept an illness “secret” - David Bowie for example.

And as for this “right to know” - whaaaat? As pps have said, there are an awful lot of people on the public payroll, many of whom earn a great deal of money and are not overly-burdened with work (eg Diversity and Inclusion Officer, (bankrupt) Birmingham City Council £105K). Should their medical details and updates be bellowed by town criers?

Stringagal · 13/03/2024 15:43

Catsfrontbum · 13/03/2024 15:15

The picture of them in the car yesterday is also a faked photoshopped pic.

they need to stop with the dreadful fake pics. Say nothing.

What makes you think that?

m00rfarm · 13/03/2024 15:44

YesIwillyesIwillYes · 13/03/2024 10:12

Lots of people endure uterine repair surgery and hysterectomy. They don’t go into hiding for 3 months. A good friend of mine had a uterine repair and she was back at work within a fortnight. Kate’s jobs are turning up somewhere staying a short time then leaving again. There’s no heavy lifting, or eight hours on her feet.

Her time off seems a bit tone deaf.

Tone deaf? You don’t even know what’s been wrong with her. What an utterly ridiculous comment.

Panama2 · 13/03/2024 15:47

Look if they wanted to hoodwink everyone don't you think they would have had a professional do it they have enough power to do it and do it properly.

Why the jump that their marriage is in trouble?

I am waiting for someone to suggest they are aliens that's about the only nut job theory to be put forward.

But it would say, like here “Abdominal Surgery”.

We were told that she would be on sick leave until Easter from the outset. That hasn’t changed, and it’s not Easter yet. Stop speculating. It’s ghoulish.

Unforgiveable thread detail but please could you explain your username( im stuck on bed rest and bored to death of the Kate sagas. Yes she’s been ill, no she’s not disappeared, yes she seems camera shy and tweaked the shot a little). If it’s a recipe it sounds disgusting… please expand !

BenefitWaffle · 13/03/2024 15:50

@Panama2 I do not claim to know anything about the state of their marriage. But cock ups are not uncommon even at the highest level of any organisation.

Is Spanish media a euphemism for Mumsnet?

😂

Calliopespa · 13/03/2024 15:52

BigWillyLittleTodger · 13/03/2024 14:28

Maria Borallo their nanny of ten years you mean? Yes it makes perfect sense she took annual leave and rushed to the Spanish press to tell them the real truth of Kate’s illness.

“Flapped her yap!”

IcedPurple · 13/03/2024 15:52

I think this sentence is quite relevant here.

"None of the newspapers have backed up their claims with evidence."

So just as I thought, more rehashed rumours. No different to what's been going on right here on Mumsnet for the past several years. The 'Spanish press' has no more access to inside information than the British press does. I have no idea if these rumours are true or false, but these 'articles' don't really add anything to the discussion.

I may have misremembered that she was the mother of one of the page boys. She's named in a number of Spanish publications however, including "Elle" and "Cuore" as well as the Uruguay edition of "El Pais". As per the link I shared (which is a publication for expats, so in English).
