It would seem to be quite the contrast but I remember the RF PR machine going wonky quite a few times in the 1980s & 1990s. To say nothing of the drama after Diana died (when HMQEII 'wouldn't return from Scotland'. They took a pasting in the press then, much of which could have been avoided with better PR. They must have it, but ignore it 'cos they're Royal'??

My conclusion is this:

Their marriage has been strained for years, due to Williams well known indiscretions. The circles are unpleasant places to be if everyone is talking about your dh and whispering pegging. They have never liked her anyway as she doesn’t come from an aristo family. She is not one of them.

Kate discovered she is unwell and requires surgery, William hasn’t stepped up and supported her at all, regardless of his public declarations and her parents have stepped in. Kate has finally had enough. KP panic with the crisis growing and buy time in hope of mediation.

The photo on Mother’s Day is published to give the public the impression they are a happy family. That blows up. Kate is forced to travel with William (despite the fact they aren’t talking) to quell growing rumours and speculation about Kate’s health and whereabouts. Kate turns her face. It’s a silent rebellion, but speaks volumes. Her wedding ring is missing and so is the engagement ring she treasured at the time.

The Royal family is in crisis.

Because the Associated Press (and similar) have strict guidelines on the amount of editing and what is acceptable. I'm paraphrasing but basically a light retouching to correct the odd stray hair, poor lighting, dust on the kea etc is acceptable but the photo MUST still be accurate in its portrayal of people and/or events. It was deemed that the photo that was released to the press had been so doctored that it could no longer be considered accurate and could therefore not be published in good faith as being truthful. Given that other photos with editing blips (such as the Xmas photo) have been allowed to be published it has people theorising as to exactly how much of the photo was edited/doctored/Photoshop and how much of it was real.
Catherine has essentially apologised (or been forced to apologise) because what they released into the public domain nhas since been deemed a lie according to the guidelines of those who publish it.

I'd say all will be fine in time, we'll see that it was much ado about nothing other than a reasonable enough request for privacy. Much of the rushed picture releases were very hamfisted and panicked for some reason though.

Anyway, let's think about the other possibility. Kate goes. Who does that leave as the RF's star prize in the popularity and photogenic stakes? Because let's face it, that's what sells for the RF and Kate is their biggest asset up to now.

I dont think anyone seriously hinks she's dead and they are covering it up. Why would they, and how do they think they would get away with that? The way Charles' illness has been handled, with video messages, pictures and updates is in stark contrast to Kates. If Kate really looks like she did in that picture she could have been photographed. If she looks significantly different or it wasn't taken ' this week' they lied.

Who are the "they" that have never liked her. Kate is the royal family's best asset and they know this.

Honestly this seems like the most likely story.

Not sure about the crisis bit though. They've weathered far worse than a basic divorce.

Her face does look very swollen in the car picture, but I can't begin to imagine that she'd have a face lift. There's surely nothing to lift. It's a bit like thinking she had liposuction or something.

Well they're the only people that can shut down the speculation and a grainy picture of the back of her head is just fuelling the fire. They're getting it wrong in all ways.
People would lose interest if they knew the truth.
There don't seem to be many threads regarding Charles' prostate for example.
