They're damned if they do and if they don't. If they announced at the outset exactly what was wrong the media would have had medical experts opining on all the awful things that could happen with that particular condition/surgery with all the gruesome details. No woman would want that.

Kate wanted medical privacy, which she, like everyone else, is entitled to.

Instead the unrelenting, disgusting, nasty frenzy of speculation led them to take a picture and edit it themselves to send out on Mother's Day. Oh, the horror. It would be laughable if it wasn't so ugly.

People need to get a grip.

I don't normally pay much attention to royal stuff but this is all really odd. As someone with a PR / marketing background, unfortunately it is believable that it's all a bit shambolic behind the scenes. Some of the biggest, most luxury brands are chaotic and disorganised behind the fancy facade.

There is an air of 'we want privacy and we are not obliged to explain anything.' But times are changing and with the rise of social media, they need to update their approach and, in my opinion, appear more gracious and accepting of the public interest in them. They also need a thorough overhaul of their PR / marketing functions.

I think the post they did came from a place of good intention, they wanted to reassure everyone, but maintain privacy. It's just that the balance was off and it's caused a mass reaction of chaos.

It doesn’t bode well- they are 18 months into the job of prince and princess of wales and making a right hash of the PR side. Like others say it’s not guaranteed that they will have a long run up to the job of king and queen.

What? So she took a picture, didn't like it, just made it look 'nicer' and this comes under the heading of misleading the whole country and media, because she made a picture look nice? There was a picture a few months ago where the press spotted a picture of her and the children which they thought might have been changed. It barely got a mention.

The late Queen Mother supposedly had 2 forms of cancer (I won't say which) but it was never ever revealed at the time.

I really don’t think Kate edited the photo herself. The mistakes were soo difficult to notice an amateur would have not been able to correct that or see the need for editing. Honestly, how much can you care about the position of your hoodie’s zipper?

I think something very wrong happened, which can be related or not to the “planned operation”, and they are just trying to buy time to see if Kate recovers enough to be media ready. Otherwise they would have released a short video or any recent photos (like Kate heading to hospital for a post operative check).

It doesn’t make sense either for William to take 3 months off work to care for the kids when the kids are in school and they have a nanny, servants and lots of money to call for further help if needed.
