The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

And not one other person saw them?

How do you know they didn’t? And, equally, how would you hear about it if they did?

People who live and work around Windsor and Kensington Palace see royals in cars all the time. Do you imagine they are all immediately on the phone to the Daily Mail saying “ Ooh, I saw royals going past me today?” Or live-streaming it on instagram?

is this even a serious question? Genuinely, you do know social media is a thing right and photographs get posted all the time. And that if Kate was doing a journey in a car with clear windows along main roads, someone would have taken a pic. Ya know at traffic lights or similar. It would be a convoy. And not one thing. So yeah. That’s how I know. Social media is a thing. Honest.

Can you point me to where I can find the “I just saw William and Catherine” platform?

Yes, I agree - the point I was making is that I don’t think she has steroid face, her profile looks normal.

I agree with you, her profile was totally normal. So it begs the question, why the sudden camera shyness. When one candid snap would put a stop to this.

When is the last time you had a surgery of any kind?

Before you answer that, are you a woman? If not then the question is irrelevant to me.

It wasn't taken by a member of the public. It was taken by a well known photographer who went on record to say he did not alter the image.

@Lampslights
It begs the question, why not respect the camera shyness and allow the woman some dignity? People pining after photographic evidence are really not helping the situation. It's a mobby pile on. Kate must be beside herself with all this, especially as she is known to want to get things right and perfect, that's her modus operandi. The media, social media sleuths and bots are hounding her.

I will say though that their PR and security people need to do a much better job than they are doing now. Letting this turn into a frenzy must have become a security issue for the family and their advisors have dropped the ball.

Yes I’m a woman, and yes I’ve had significant surgery, which resulted in a month in hospital. Why is this relevant? I’m sure mine was not the same as Kate’s as it was pregnancy related. Confused

the fact remains, Kate is at least 2 months post surgery and there is very weird shit going on. This could easily be ended with a quick snap. They are refusing to take that step. A very simple step. For a woman who has been in the public eye for a long time and is not camera shy. A woman who is likely the most photographed globally. And who is supposed to be back working in a couple of weeks. They will not show a facial photograph close to return to work. If you don’t think that’s weird, you’re pretty much alone.

Listen to yourself! Do you realise how deranged you sound?! Kate is under no obligation to provide anyone with a “quick snap.”

FFS, with respect - get a life and leave Kate alone.

Did you feel like being on display for the world while you were recovering?

Why are you attacking, take a deep breath and calm down. Step away if you’ve lost control. No one said she was obligated, when you’ve calmed yourself read the posts again.

This is a distinctly masculine way of speaking to a woman.

People are trying to blow it into something far bigger than it really is as a chance to paint the RF as “ liars.”

I think it’s unfortunate the way it’s been handled but I don’t think there’s any more “ lying” involved than just the fact that they wanted to put out a photo to answer pressure for one - and there has been pressure - that wouldn’t have people commenting negatively on how the children look traumatised, Catherine looks rough etc etc.

In hindsight they should have sat for a professional photographer and released the original and I’m sure in the greater scheme of illness etc Catherine would look more than decent regardless. But I understand her feeling targeted by the intense scrutiny and I’ve always taken their “ photo by Catherine or William” habit to be an attempt to look family snap-ish so they may have felt that was the right thing.

I just think whatever axes people have to grind about their taxes supporting them etc ( though, not, it would seem, costly photography sittings!) it’s an inappropriate time and topic to use for leverage on that when Catherine is trying to recuperate, KC is unwell, there has been a bereavement last week. They are public figures but they are also people and this sticking the boot in when they are vulnerable is nasty.

Oh, I see. It just never occurred to me that editing a photo was "lying". How petty!

Hellendegenerate · 13/03/2024 09:41

Last night I read info on post surgery with patients with chron's disease a suggestion that Catherine may be wearing a temporary colostomy bag. Has this not been mentioned anywhere as to the possible reason for her staying away from the public eye? It would make perfect sense.

MyNameIsFine · 13/03/2024 09:33

I think it is if you show someone present who wasn’t actually present, or someting of consequence is altered. Bags under eyes touched up or a composite of the smiliest shot of each child I would call a bit petty, if you would call that sort of editing lying, yes.

If Catherine is in the Maldives and photoshopped herself in to a snap on her porch, that’s lying.

There have been some suggestions it is a whole new head swapped in. That does start moving beyond a “ tidy up” of the photo.

Calliopespa · 13/03/2024 09:47

Then again, it could just be a head from the same batch of photos …

cherrypieandcoffee · 13/03/2024 09:49

I don't have an issue with people editing their pics, thats up to them, but yes, it is lying. This is exactly why filters etc can be so harmful- they present a false image of what people "should" look like. Just look at instagram and the curated shots there- what kind of message does that send to young girls- that they should have perfect flawless skin, perfect size waists, thigh gap etc etc. Many instagrammers have been brave enough to post side by side comparisons of their real image next to the filtered ones and it's really quite shocking how different they are. I am not saying filters are wrong at all, people can use them if they want but it does present a false image of what "normal" actually is and you cannot avoid that there are problematic side effects of that.

I have no comment on KM's pics but just commenting in general about why photo editing in the media can be problematic for many valid reasons.

Serenster · 13/03/2024 09:54

And did anyone else notice at the top of the Independent article the accompanying video of Rose Hanbury entering a Royal Banquet recently, partnered up with - guess who? Sarah Vine.

That was the State Banquet for Donald Trump in 2019. Not that recent?

if she did have a colon resection, and no one knows, I can attest to the psychological and physical issues coming to terms with it, even if it is temporary, , I had a colon resection for colon cancer and having a stoma bag is traumatizing, I worried about it leaking, smelling, having to change it, possibility of it showing, in the overall scheme of things it sounded so shallow in comparison to life saving cancer surgery and the recovery, but it added another layer of concern and also the worry that the planned reversal might not be successful.

I do agree about the harm of curated shots on instagram - and actually magazine photography etc generally. I still think bravo to Kate Winslet that she refused to have her thighs airbrushed away.

But the reality is most photos reaching a public forum these days are enhanced to some extent. ( I, for one, take them with a grain of salt as a matter of course); and some adjustments are more harmful than others. I struggle to see the harm if Charlotte’s sleeve was retouched. Likewise, Kate is sitting heavily clad in extremely modest clothing . It’s not as though she has retouched to showcase some magnificently unachievable gravity- defying cleavage or ludicrously tiny waist. She looks very believable.

I don’t think it’s fair to leap on her for this particular shot in a world positively teeming with distorted realities of unhealthily perfect looking people. She’s not been well and I think was just trying to retouch things to normality.

Then again I could be entirely wrong: perhaps she refused to sit and it’s the nanny with a photoshopped head 🤷🏻‍♀️

If it was just a small retouch they would probably release an unedited version.

Thats a fair point. I think its just little surprising that it was done so badly is all- like it wasn't just one mistake, there were loads of them. End of the day, it's hardly the crime of the century and unfortunately, the timing of it just played into all the weird conspiracy theories about her. If she had put this photo out last year, there may have been a bit of a stir but nowhere near the shitshow this has become now. Her timing for putting out a badly edited pic was terrible lol
I wouldnt want to be in her place for all the money in the world- having that kind of scrutiny must be truly awful.
