The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

Lying and fraud?! For a mildy altered photo?!

Not doing their job properly???? The public were told Kate was having surgery, and would be out of action until after Easter. It's not Easter yet. If my employers were told that to explain my absence I would expect that to be the end of it. If they were hounding me to the extent Kate has been hounded by the general public (apparently her employers) then I would be less than impressed. Grow up.

Why should they get special treatment? They are the royal family, do you really expect them to live like you or I?

As I said, dramatic, and indicative of people with small minds and dull lives.

I won't argue with someone who clearly worships them and is happy to continue paying for them. I have to go to bed now so I can wake up early to ring my doctor to arrange an appointment, wish me luck.

@Ulysees ,
We don't want this thread pulled, so will wait for the press to say it first.

@Meangirl6 ,

Pics still up on some news sites with the edits circled.
Check on BBC or Sky online.

Can anyone prove that you aren’t stupid? I’m not seeing much evidence.

Charming 😂

I agree. It's become so absurd that even people who didn't give it a thought (like me) are now wondering what's going on. In my opinion, something happened to Kate which is seen as "incompatible" with the future queen role (eating disorder? MH issues? suicide attempt?) - something that this society would regard as incompatible with the image the future queen should be projecting. And the RF is completely out of their depth making one error after another.

This. I don't usually give a flying fart about the RF but this whole business is dodgy AF

Commonhousewitch · 11/03/2024 23:00

Not sure if other countries are more sensible but it was headline news in Australia all of yesterday....

With that logic shall we merge all ‘my mother in law’s controlling’ or ‘my neighbour’s a knob’ threads?

Just skip the threads that don’t interest you! I manage to live my life happily avoiding inheritance threads and there’s always loads of them!

Must say I fervently disagree with you. Inheritance threads are up there with parking threads as my favourites.

This whole thing shows that their PR team are rubbish, out of their depth and need to be replaced by actual professionals. They should advise her to release the original ASAP, that’s the only way to quash this runaway train (but not all the runaway trains; let’s face it this is now the peak rush hour King’s Cross station of rumours fuelled by their rubbish PR team). That’s the only way to restore some credibility. Don’t you think the UK would cut them some slack if they’re less than perfect? I always thought Kate would earn great PR for getting drunk, falling out of a Land Rover and punching a paparazzo, just showing that like any other person she feels stress sometimes. We love a fall from grace, and a come back story. The whole perfection thing she embodies seems bloody hard work….

I wonder if Kate reads comments on this site… I mean, why not? This is the word on the street, the state of the nation, the temperature of the great British public and beyond. Maybe she sneaks peeks while the kids are in bed and Willy is… I can’t even think of what he does in his down time actually… maybe he knits.

Here is the US we were more concerned with Gaza, the Ukraine, and the asylum seeker situation. Here in NYC the headline are about the governor telling the National Guard that they can't pack machine guns when they patrol the subways and do bag checks.

That Indy article from April 2023 dredged up…….

BemusedAmerican · 11/03/2024 23:29

Random subway users ate being polled about their views of guardspeople carrying semiautomatics. They' ve been doing it for years but this governor is from upstate and never takes the subway.

Yeah, there is the US there has never been a headline about leaders lying to you. Famously your government is transparent and free of partisan controversy, with no cause for headlines about rigged elections, presidents on trial, impeachment, scandal, anything like that.

Again, for the gloating non-Brits: the monarchy isn't a bunch of B list celebrities. They are part of the structure of the government.

So concerned you didn't pick up on the problem with saying 'the Ukraine' rather than Ukraine?

I appreciate some people on another continent might not have understood this, but it has been quite prominently reported for the last few years.

kaleidoscope123 · 11/03/2024 23:57

Jeez! The difference between King Charles and Kates health situation is that Charles’ children are all adults. Kate’s children are very young, like all parents she won’t want to worry them and probably hasn’t told them what’s wrong with her. To tell the public will be to also tell her children. I find everyone really really odd here demanding to know! She has a family to consider and her illness isn’t really our business. As if the queen didn’t have numerous health issues that we didn’t know about in later life!

On the photo element, perhaps it was just a last minute decision to take a photograph to issue on Mothers Day, to that everyone for their support! Who doesn’t edit photographs before they put them online, sadly I’m limited to the software included with Instagram but if I had any skills with any other software I would certainly use it.

This media hounding is absolutely shocking really. How about we all just sit back and get on with our lives and wait until she’s back to work to discuss how she is! When she went off on maternity leave no one hounded her this much, can’t she have sick leave too please!! She isn’t even Queen yet.

BemusedAmerican · 11/03/2024 23:58

No, we know people are lying to us. Our election choices are a choice between 2 evils. all of them. Our mayor, for example, is being investigated by the FBI for taking bribes from foreign governments.
You won't let William even make a statement asking for peace without telling him it's not his job. As far as I can tell from reading Mumsnet, his job is essentially the same as our borough presidents. - to show up,do a photo OP, and chat. He and his wife screwed up with a photograph and now they know to hire a professional photographer they can trust.

This is a really weird comment. You think the people on this thread are dramatic and you're extrapolating from this that 67 million people also share this trait? What possible basis could you have for making such a generalisation?

Of course if you're outside of Britain it wouldn't be a big deal. Because it's not your government. In the 90s all the Berlusconi "gaffs" was given light-hearted fluff coverage outside of Italy, it would have been very strange to say "huh are all Italians so dramatic? Over in Britain we don't care about Berlusconi!".

Just in case your comment was in good faith, I'll spell it out for you: it's a big deal because the monarchy is in fact part of our government structure. The particular individuals in it can't be voted in or out. So they have to behave very well towards "the public" or we get fed up, and when we get fed up we can't even decide to vote them out. We really, really don't like being lied to. If the monarchy is lying to us, then it might be time for a change in government structure.

Yet again, I live in a Commonwealth country, I know all about the RF.

You (we) were told she was having surgery and wouldn't be back until after Easter - and Easter is still a way off. That should have been the end of it.

If there hadn't been all the ridiculous comments and conspiracy theories flying around for weeks from your overly dramatic (not to mention nutty) citizens then the RF wouldn't have had to resort to this. I don't for one minute believe it is only the posters on MN who are spouting all this rubbish.

Meanwhile, despite knowing that several of my friends are big fans of the RF, I hadn't heard one person speculate on Kate's condition, or why she hadn't been seen.

Once again, Brits are appearing completely mad to the outside world.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 12/03/2024 00:00

It’s a mess. How on earth this photo was released is a mystery. Don’t they have staff to deal with PR?

I watched some of the Commonwealth service today. What a sorry state the RF looked. There’s hardly anyone left, especially from the younger contingent.

EasternEcho · 12/03/2024 00:01

@BemusedAmerican I've been enjoying the coverage about Senator Katie Britt's breathless, psychotic, woman in the kitchen rebuttal to the State of the Union speech. Full of lies and utterly scary. Scarlett Johansson followed it up brilliantly with a sketch on SNL: Then there's Trump and his never ending lies. The Washington Post has reported everyday on the royal family story each time it developed.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, apologizes for altering photo after retraction - The Washington Post

I love your username, and I'm also bemused by all this nonsense. The longer I spend on MN the more weird I think Brits are. Thank goodness my great grandparents had the good sense to get out!
