I don’t think anyone is blaming Katherine are they? Most people have every sympathy with her. She’s the best of the lot of them tbh! Her PR representation is pretty poor though.
It’s totally understandable that she wants to protect her medical history. I don’t wish to know what’s wrong with her and I don’t believe anyone has a right to know, and can you imagine the hideous speculation and commentary that would accompany her on every ceremonial occasion if she admitted to having something like Crohn’s; it would be intolerable. Even admitting to a hysterectomy would invite sexist comments about the menopause etc. If she’s pregnant then presumably that would be deemed “acceptable” in the public’s eye although there would be a lot of talk about their eco credentials.
If it’s a marital or mh issue then no PR company can cover up the truth forever.
What I am saying is, she really can’t win. And what does that say about us the prurient public?
My view as a Republican is that all of the people who purport to support the monarchy should do some serious self examination about what it is that makes this hideous intrusion in to the personal life of a mother of young children acceptable?
The fervent royalists may not be the ones speculating inappropriately themselves but they are the avid consumers of news about the family. And the family depends fundamentally on news being written about them in order to garner public support.
Gossipy speculation has always surrounded the RF in times past, but before the Internet, the extreme weirdos had to keep the worst of the speculation confined in their own heads which is no longer the case.
Imho it’s time to wrap up the entire institution and put a stop to the psychological torture of the people within it. Especially the children. Things were different at the start of the reign of the late Queen, but it is time to admit that having a RF is incompatible with today’s digital age when most of the population are wandering around with a camera in their pocket.
It’s simply no longer possible - I would argue it’s damaging - to try to manipulate normal events in this family that we all experience, such as ill health, marital difficulties, family disputes and dysfunction - to try and somehow give the impression that, despite all their trappings of wealth, that they are somehow superior to other mortals. It’s simply no longer compatible with credibility.
