I think if they had made a public statement it would have been taken the wrong way. Much better to say something in private, it feels more genuine

I did try to explain but let me do it again. If you are near a relative who is sick then you will likely visit them and be there in person. The Sussexes are at a distance so it would be seen by some that they would post a get well soon message in public. Maybe they have done so privately. Who Knows as ever. Me ? I would not expect a public statement from them.

They are in a 'checkmate' situation right now on how they respond to this. But as its entirely a situation of their own making, I have little sympathy

They issued a statement denying they had commented on the photoshopping, seeing as they were making a statement about the situation and the controversy, I think most people would have added a kindly get well soon line to that statement.

They are the only family members who have made any statement about it it, none of the others family members have.
