DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 04/03/2024 23:20

The press has published pics of HRH with her mum in mum Audi on a
"school run." HRH was seated in the front passenger seat.

Wishing HRS Kate a speedy recovery!!

He looks like Jimmy Carr to me 😬

No, you're mixing him up with an unfunny weasel.

The photos don't show if there were other vehicles in convoy.

So?

So we don't know if security was present or not (absence of evidence not being evidence of absence)

So not a point from which conclusions can be drawn.

I think this sorry episode shows two things

  • even though people claim to revile the paps and press intrusion, all to many are a ready market for it and think it makes great news
  • those who thought a photo would quell speculation were hopelessly naive (or over-optimistic or just wanted a nice stir of the pot)

The crowd who can identify Kate’s level of unwellness from one grainy long-distance pap shot through a car windscreen remind me of TV detectives scrolling through hours of CCTV then yelling “there!” and somehow spotting the clue in what looks like a 12-week scan.

It’s becayde even though it is a grainy long distance image smoothed and defined, it’s clear her face is puffy, and unless she’s found a deep and sudden love for wine and crisps whilst recuperating, that normally indicates steroids, as many of us have had to take them and recognise it. If that’s what it is, it will dissipate quickly when she stops the meds. Less so if it’s wine and crisps.

its clear progress if she’s wanting to get out, even if just for the school run and to give her kids some normalcy. Good for her. I’m sure they have all been through a tough time.and if she’s now on the road to recovery enough she feels well enough to go out, then that’s great for them all.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/03/2024 09:49

I thought the point about royal security is that you don't see it and you don't know who they are (on the 'if the bad guys know who we are and they can nobble us they can get at the royal they're targeting' theory); so security is anonymous.

I’m pretty sure @DistinguishedSocialCommentator is expecting an invite for afternoon tea with Kate after all her posts. And her posts about how influential she is in her social media field

All the mystery surrounding Kate and when she will be seen at her first engagement is just one big circus. This is mainly due to how badly the whole situation has been handled. Before any of the pro royals start spouting on about her right to privacy they are no normal family. They are tax payer funded whether that costs each person £1.00+ makes no difference. They can't pick and choose when they want to be seen and when they don't. The whole situation has arisen because she doesn't want to be seen in public until she is looking oh so perfect. What kind of message is that sending to her own daughter or young girls all around the country that a woman has to be picture perfect before she can be seen out and that makes no difference just because she is in the public eye. The whole debacle is just another nail in the coffin of the royal family showing that they are entitled white privileged people who have no idea what goes on in the real world.

Well I want to see how her and William sleep at night, I want to see him in the shower (he's permitted to wear pants), I want to see the kids eat every day and I want to see his Dad has sex. Sounds reasonable right?

I imagine the lesson she's teaching her daughter is that regardless of her role, she is actually a human being with bodily autonomy who has rights over that body. Including not having to leave the house just so people can take photos just so she can show people how rough she's looking just to make you feel better when you look rough.

Are you serious? I’d love to see you live like that. No privacy whatsoever and the public have bought the right to your medical records and your every bodily function .

mpsw · 06/03/2024 10:38

I can make a good guess about how the June engagement thing came about, because it's for Trooping the Colour.

That was the only future event listed for King, Queen and the Waleses on the official calendar for 2024. It was mentioned on a MN thread at about the turn of the year, as part of a "look the lazy feckers have no engagements" discussion; and posters pointed out absence of events in the official calendar (which is only really useful as a record of past events) was for security reasons, and no-one could take seriously the idea that there would only be one engagement in the whole year.

I think everyone forgot that Trooping The Colour had been added to the 2024 calendar - because the default is that engagements aren't added until they'd taken place. So at some point, someone (probably military, dusting off the ceremonial plans ready to rehearse) spotted it, mentioned it, and it grew legs (or should that be a scaly tail) and it ran.

Yes, if she's back, as expected, she's bound to be there. I don't think that her name on a list for it is any indication of anything to do with her health or when she will return to a public-facing role

losingtheplot999 · 06/03/2024 10:47

@SleepingStandingUp when there is no legitimate answer make something up that sounds downright stupid. They use the media when they want to make themselves look good by wheeling their children out when it suits them. No one is saying they want her to come out so they can see her looking rough. They are making a big story where there is none by making it such a big deal if she is seen out. So what if she has one hair out of place or dark circles under her eyes. She wouldn't be thought badly if it would just make her more relatable to half the population. Also she walked open eyes into this sham of a family so the crap about her not having to put up with this, this is what she signed up for whether we agree with it or not.

You are so very very wrong. If anything I'm sure it's garnered more sympathy for the poor woman and yes she has every right to privacy at this time.

I'd also like to see what my Children's teachers shopping basket looks like on an average week and what they do on their holidays. After all they do work in the public sector, are publicly funded, paid for by my taxes therefore I own them and should be able to make them jump when I ask. Same goes for doctors, nurses, refuse collectors.....definitely politicians.

This supercilious narrative of ‘baying public’ needs to stop

Those of us reading this thread, seeing the social media and newspaper coverage and (in some cases, certainly mine) remembering first hand what happened in the first week of September 1997 are perfectly able to make up our own minds about what we are seeing, thank you.

I haven’t caught up with the full thread but I need to clarify something

Yes there is an element of superciliousness from a few royalist posters here but that wasn’t my main target. I didn’t make clear that I feel the superciliousness is coming from KP . The royalist posters are picking up on that .
This snooty ‘I don’t answer to the plebs ‘ is coming from William . It’s a huge mistake and one that C and C are too wily to make .
And of course yet again I have to repeat no one wants or is entitled to medical info or photos etc.
William is doing as he pleases which is next to nothing , the tax payers see it and he DGAF
And no one is baying to see Kate but the communication has been so mishandled that people were rightly asking questions
The whole issue of the ‘royals’ is now so divisive that it is a problem . So much for representing the country !

If a Windsor was on a transparent salary and subject to the law and with one residence ( as a president would have ) it would be much less of an issue
As it is they take millions annually and answer to no one , are above the law and make sure that their secrets are protected

They are making the UK a laughing stock and making fools of the citizens who support them

Hear - hear!

The British royals have successfully locked-in a chunk of the population, who will contort themselves through the most preposterous logical loops to justify continuing to fund (including through IHT-avoiding dispositions worth billions to the public purse) and support a multi-billionaire family of whom very little is asked in return.

But some people are waking up!

Esse1234 · 06/03/2024 11:19

Engagements are added to the calendar for Anne / Edward & Sophie in advance, but apparently not the King/Queen/Wales.

Nice to see Beatrice stepping in for Kate at a recent MH charity event, both the York girls have jobs, young children and are involved with various charities.

AlbertoDilemma · 06/03/2024 11:20

You are basically conflating their right to a private life - enshrined in the Human Rights Act, whoever you are - with your own curiosity and self righteousness as a taxpayer to want to know every single element of their lives. When you or I or they are ill, upset, recovering, divorcing, grieving, we are allowed to do so without having our privacy invaded. It's hard to believe that the same people who support Harry over his numerous court claims around his privacy when he was a working royal don't support the same privacy now for Catherine - especially when a perfectly clear and reasonable amount of information into her recovery timeline has been provided. Anything else is simply none of your business, as enshrined by law, and rightly so.

@Hoolahoophop as usual the royalists are totally missing the point. Teachers, doctors etc get paid bare minimum for all their hard work. They aren't in the public eye trying to drum up support for an archaic system that is totally outdated. They don't live in palaces and have 90 members of staff working for them so barely work part time. Totally missing the point and I'm afraid it doesn't cut it with a cast majority of people.

Are you serious? The media and social media trolls made it a big circus.

KP released 2 statements, saying that Kate had surgery and will be back after Easter

I don't get what is so controversial about that. Can't you haters read?

People will never be satisfied. Had Kate released a photo of herself at home after the surgery, so many would've have criticised her, analysed every little detail to try to find something wrong, mocked her appearance.

Maybe, there were complications during the surgery, maybe she had a pre-existing condition that requires a longer recovery period.

I do not understand the obsession with this woman's health

AliceOlive · 06/03/2024 11:40

Not jobs as anyone else would understand them though.

Nothing about their lives is something you could understand without living it. The absolute lack of compassion and empathy is why many of us push back here.

I understand it’s human nature, based mainly on envy and an inability to put themselves in the shoes of another. But I think we as humans are all capable of achieving a higher level than what we see here.

Quizine · 06/03/2024 11:46

How about in exchange for total privacy guaranteed by some law or other, they donate 80% of their income to the charities they support, and revoke all the secrecy laws surrounding their wills, wealth, and IHT, and so on?

It is that kind of privilege, and hiding of immense wealth that irks people more than anything I'd say.

AliceOlive · 06/03/2024 11:47

Amazing to me that anyone who ever claimed to have been concerned about Meghan’s mental health while she was working would be crowing for Catherine’s head.

Not sure what the agenda is exactly but if you can do that to one you don’t truly give a shit about the other.
