I am pleased to let you know that Prince William is on good form, visiting my home town today, meeting our football team and pulling a pint in the local. He clearly prioritised his engagements this week and this was far too important to miss⚽️🤣

This is an awful comment. The cause of his friend's death has not been released and there has not yet been an inquest.

I think you'll find he had traumatic head injuries and a shotgun was found nearby...you don't have to be Vera to put 2 and 2 together.

ItsAllAboutTheDosh · 01/03/2024 21:48

Wow the inquest has already happened! Life really is different for the rich.

Most inquests are opened and adjourned for further investigation before conclusion. It will be treated the same as any other sudden death.
Do you always make such nasty comments about tragic deaths?

underthebun · 01/03/2024 22:30

Just googled it & 300 comments so it can't have been pushed for very long

It probably wasn't getting much engagement in that case.

Prydddan · 01/03/2024 21:42

In his spare time he will be shadowing his dad as Head of State and dealing with all the Duchy of Cornwall stuff.

And also the daily management of the household stuff that Harry describes in Spare as being so onerous ( and he was only the spare).

So, not busy at all.

Edited

Yes it takes a good while to count all the income from the Duchy of Cornwall 👍

jaxmollie · 01/03/2024 19:33

I don't get this attitude. His wife is obviously quite ill and he has three children, and just because he isn't seen doing as many engagements doesn't mean he isn't working, things will be going on behind the scenes? Different type of work to the rest of us I'm sure but wouldn't trade for any of it - constant scrutiny, always worrying your children/family are targets, having to get dressed up and speak publicly to hoardes of people on a regular basis...no thanks!

I agree. So many posters on threads like this who seem to lack the intelligence to understand that members of the RF do a little bit more than just travel around undertaking public engagements!

The envy of anyone more wealthy just shines out of some posters, we see it time and time again. I can't imagine any of them would last more than a week in the job.

Bigtrip2026 · 02/03/2024 06:09

I am no fan of the rf but the lusting to know what is wrong with the POW and KC is unbelievable. Its nobodys business but theirs . If the POW doesn't want to be photographed and forensically analysed as a result ( who could blame her) then if there was something up with one of their children who else is going to pitch up? Yes they have a nanny but if it was an injury of course he has to step in. On this site there is an abundance of women complaining about their husbands leaving them to it even when they are ill. It's a bit hypocritical to condemn him for actually being a father. At the end of the day nobody really knows what has happened but what they have been clear about from the outset is there will be boundaries on what happens to their children from exposure to the media and their privacy and they have stuck with that and for one I think they've done a good job of that.

Of course there is more to the role than public engagements.

But how is it that members of the royal family who are in their 70s can somehow do all of this behind the scenes work and also treble the number of engagements that William and Kate manage? (Of course I am talking about Kate when she is not unwell)

The only real answer is that it's because they take substantially more time off.

I know the "hands on parents" line is coming but you really can be a hands on parent without taking as much time off as these two do.

The other claim has been that they are focussing on more meaningful work but they are now into their 40s with not much to show for it. Not like the Prince's Trust or DoE award scheme.

I don't understand why some posters are so gullible.

Neither William nor Kate would last a week in any professional senior role. They haven't either of them, even pre children or being a "working" royal managed a full time job

MaturingCheeseball · 01/03/2024 20:52

No matter what William does, some people will insult him till the day he begs Harry to return, abdicates along with his dc and, divorced from Kate, sits miserably in Harry’s old Nottingham Cottage digs and watches Harry and Meghan take their rightful place as joint monarchs. Am I right or am I right?

No, you’re wrong

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 02/03/2024 08:17

TraitorsGate · 01/03/2024 19:36

What would you like him to do

Not much; he’s always seemed lazy

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 02/03/2024 08:25

Posters complain all the time about the comments on Harry and Meghan threads being unfair and commenters being rude about them but then do the same thing in threads about William and Catherine. It is wildly hypocritical.

Really says more about them than the person they are commenting on. Does puzzle me how some of them have so much time to comment here.

MaturingCheeseball · 02/03/2024 09:38

@Ratsoffasinkingsauage - good point! But they’ll bleat “I’m not on the taxpayer’s dime!” Which is always the excuse for H&M’s very productive existence.

However, if rank nastiness is an occupation, then we have many fully employed on the anti-William threads!

NonoLePetitRobot · 02/03/2024 09:43

Ah, it must be nice to be in a job where 'working' involves going to the pub and chatting to people 😃

BeaRF75 · 02/03/2024 09:47

The downright nastiness about Prince William and other RF members is just baffling. They are just people trying to do their best, but in the glare of the spotlight. I'm sure most of us would hate it. Let's just cut them a bit of slack, and show some compassion to our fellow humans.

Coronateachingagain · 02/03/2024 09:56

Yeah he has a business to manage (or learn to manage) that it is worth hundreds of millions if not billions. That comes first. Then you have the Palace politics too. Little time left for actual work that would impact us in any way.

Come on! Seriously? That is quite hilarious given the amount of time some of the royalist main players spend posting on here.

And the limited and incorrect assumption that those who object to Prince William do so only because they have some personal objection to him or they are jealous about anyone who is wealthy is pretty wearisome and designed to distract from objections in principle to a hereditary monarchy and all the secrecy surrounding the institution’s financial matters.

Well said - exactly this

Samcro · 02/03/2024 10:22

I really don't think the few posts calling PW lazy/billy idol are at all comparable to the 100's of threads ripping H&M apart.
if people find these threads about PW offensive, i look forward to seeing them on the H&M threads saying the same.

CurlewKate · 02/03/2024 10:28

I'd love to know about the behind the scenes work PW does. Presumably he has a staff to manage the estates and businesses? I hope he does-that sort of thing needs expert professionals.

Prydddan · 02/03/2024 10:31

spriots · 01/03/2024 22:22

How exciting, a new excuse.

Makes a change from the usual ones.

I wonder how Charles managed this when he was PoW all while doing 3x the number of engagements, more meaningful charity work like the Prince's trust and learning Welsh. Must have been rushed off his feet

He neglected his kids, apparently.

I can’t work out if you’re joking or not 😄

Prydddan · 02/03/2024 10:36

Perhaps W is taking the line that all this "turning up" and multiple in-name-only patronages is old-fashioned (it really is!) and should be phased out.

Badnewsonthedoorstep · 02/03/2024 10:40

He neglected his kids, apparently.

You’d be amazed at how many people in the UK manage to work long hours in stressful jobs and still be good parents, all without the help of any staff at all.

MusicstillonMTV · 02/03/2024 10:42

William and Kate bingo

Hands on parents
Nebulous behind scenes work
Very important work that we will see the impact of in 20 years
Deflect attention onto Harry and Meghan
Takes a long time to read a briefing note
Don't have any live in staff
Have to spend lots of time looking after their money
Just trying to give their kids a normal life
Don't be so mean

Prydddan · 02/03/2024 10:56

Eh? Are you disagreeing with me that he neglected them? Or agreeing with me that he neglected them (but adding that he didn't need to, as if I were defending him on that point)?

Or just wanting an argument because that's what people come to this board to do?

Taylormiffed · 02/03/2024 11:03

His wife is recovering from a major op.
His dad is receiving treatment for cancer. He'll probably be learning a lot from him in case he has to step in.
Three primary age kids.
And whatever event pulled him out of the memorial in the week.

I'm a lone parent with zero help, far far less than most people on these boards, but even I can understand that he's probably stressed up to the eyeballs.
