I am pleased to let you know that Prince William is on good form, visiting my home town today, meeting our football team and pulling a pint in the local. He clearly prioritised his engagements this week and this was far too important to miss⚽️🤣

@Idmiid Strange definition of bitchfest!

Samcro · 02/03/2024 22:03

I am glad if its true that Camilla is taking a break. She is in her 70’s and has been doing more than a bloke nearly half her age

CurlewKate · 02/03/2024 22:08

@Samcro "I am glad if its true that Camilla is taking a break. She is in her 70’s and has been doing more than a bloke nearly half her age"

But significantly less than many other people in their 70s...

CarrotOfPeace · 02/03/2024 22:16

Why shouldn't she have a week off

Spectre8 · 02/03/2024 22:18

Aren't the kids in school so what do they do all day then if they aren't doing any appearances and even when they were still not even doing much.

It's not like they have to clean the house, get all the laundry done, make meals etc. 🤔

spriots · 02/03/2024 20:28

You can just see it happening, though, can't you?

As a republican, it's very pleasing - once the elderly royals retire/pass away - I think the lack of presence or impact from these two will be much more obvious.

Agreed.

I swing between thinking that Doolittle is an asset (the royalists like her) and thinking that her lack of work ethic will become obvious/damaging when the elderly ones do fewer engagements for health reasons.

Camilla is approaching eighty and her husband has cancer. I can understand why she wants a week off. She was also bereaved herself in recent years (her son’s partner I think) but I don’t suppose anyone at BP or KP cares too much about that as long as she’s dutifully cutting ribbons.

ItsAllAboutTheDosh · 02/03/2024 22:41

The less they do, the more it raises the question why anyone needs to do this work.

Most people in their 70s are retired.
im not suggesting she has it hard, but she is still doing more than a bloke half her age

WhatAreThey · 03/03/2024 00:22

They can retire and give it up if they wish bu they won't cos it's not work and the perks are out of this world.
William shows up at football match practice having gotten there with the help of 60 staff yet the public are to regard him, not the staff or footballers as having worked hard. Lol

ItsAllAboutTheDosh · 03/03/2024 00:48

Andrew spent his "working" life playing a round of golf at famous gold courses and attending official dinners where his friends were present.
They can do engagements that are more work, but it is a choice. They can set up charities or campaigns, or go to film premieres and sports matches.

It’s not normal for both parents to be home pretty much all day every day, the vast majority of people with a family need 2 working parents, so I don’t think they are giving them a ‘normal’ upbringing in that sense, just an extremely privileged one, even more privileged than royal children before them. I’m all for the RF and I like William and Kate but they need to up their game sharpish, the looking after the kids shtick is really wearing thin.

I don't think growing up as a member of the Royal Family is ever going to be normal. So, if they want to be the ones to do the school runs, fair enough. Though I did do the morning school run with mine but not the afternoon because hey I had a full-time job and paid someone else to do the pickups for me, and I don't think my now adult children missed out on anything.

I do agree though that William and Kate need to up their game. It's got to the stage where they are using their children as an excuse.

Must be soo frustrating for their haters to realise that outside of some small but deafening little echo chambers of spite online, the public are massively supportive of William and Kate - normal people don’t think they are lazy. All opinion polls show their popularity is strong and rising.

Sucks to be a hater

Well you see it is perfectly possible to question the role of W and K, and ask questions about their work ethic, and indeed challenge the whole notion of the monarchy, without indulging in personal hatred of anybody!

Most be frustrating not to be able to comprehend that!

Challenge away, most people will just think you are a bit strange and unpleasant.

Two senior royals have been seriously ill. Most people are supportive, a small segment of Republicans and Sussex squad trolls are trying hopelessly to take advantage of the situation. It’s all very unedifying

Badnewsonthedoorstep · 03/03/2024 03:50

There seems to be something rotten in the State of Denmark for sure now lol.

There certainly does. Camilla announcing a holiday right mow now is truly terrible timing.

You are saying it’s strange and unpleasant to challenge the notion of monarchy while Charles and Kate are unwell? And all the republicans on here should suspend comment until that time when you consider it acceptable to start posting again?

I see 😂

Are you going to wave a mini Royal standard to let us all know when that moment has arrived or do we have to fill in some sort of form? 😂

I think a sick father (who is king) and a sick wife (who is the more popular half of your 'brand') would encourage me to be more visible - isn't this his moment to shine?

At best, it strikes me as a wasted opportunity...

Royal life is a series of wasted opportunities.

look at Harry, he had a massive opportunity to do great work for any of the military charities that would benefit from his Patronage.

Instead he'd rather inhabit the inside of court rooms taking the media to task, what a waste of time, money and publicity.

spriots · 03/03/2024 06:58

It's odd that Camilla has announced a week off when William and Kate both frequently take weeks off at a time without specific announcements.

Why? Once he's king his time will never be his own again. If it were my children becoming heirs to the throne, I'd want to give them every chance to be with their own young family, before they are tied to the duties of their rank, and all its boring necessities.

HumanBurrito · 03/03/2024 08:06

The more I think about it, the more I think supporting royalty is actively cruel. I mean, it takes a pretty specific personality type to enjoy the shaking hands and cutting ribbons nonsense, let alone be good at it. Forcing people into that through accident of birth is dreadful. Imagine if the next in line had learning difficulties, or social anxiety, or any number of health issues that made them a poor fit for the role. Indeed, given PW's well documented mental health issues (and I applaud him for being open about it[, forcing him to stay in the role or risk a massive constitutional crisis is terrible on the human level.

I have a ten-yr-old a couple of months younger than George. He likes Minecraft and kicking about in the park with his friends. He wants to be a geologist or a Youtuber. The very thought of forcing him into the public gaze with no choice for the rest of his life makes me sick. Royalists need to take a long hard look in the mirror IMO.

You don't have to imagine it. Examples: George III and George VI both had health issues - MH LD and speech impediment. When you're next in line to the throne, that's your destiny not whether or not you're fit for the role.

It's odd that Camilla has announced a week off when William and Kate both frequently take weeks off at a time without specific announcements.

The announcement is a bit odd I think. Do they usually announce all the holidays of the reigning Monarch and Consort ?

I remember reading after the Coronation about Charles going to his house alone in Transylvania because I was surprised that he had a house in Romania but I can’t remember if that was through the papers or a public announcement.

Has Camilla had to cancel something? I’m not sure?

Before she was Queen it was disclosed that Camilla regularly visited an Indian health retreat.

Let me find the article…

It’s £2,800 a week and at the time of writing she’d visited eight times apparently.
