Following on from this glorious thread

William just pulled out of event due to personal reasons http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/theroyall_family/5017144-william-just-pulled-out-of-event-due-to-personal-reasons

It's a judgment based on William's previous form. You reap what you sow etc.

Has he a history of frequently cancelling events last minute?

ShepherdMoons · 28/02/2024 21:04

I think we all feel like we are being kept in the dark about many things. Charles is being treated for an 'unspecified cancer' which is vague and then Kate has had abdominal surgery with a very long recovery period. William is also reneging on events - totally understandable as it sounds like he has a lot on his plate. I think the best thing would be for the RF to tell people what is happening and I think people would support them. The vagueness and ambiguity will only add to conspiracies.

I can't think of any, and a cursory Google search turned up none.

User7825525 · 28/02/2024 21:05

CraftyTaupeOtter · 28/02/2024 20:57

Exactly, nothing undignified about Crohn's. It's very common. The RF aren't immune from anything we commoners are. I don't know (or care) what it is anymore than anyone else does, but I do think shrouding it in mystery only makes people more curious and gives rise to threads like this.

I think many sufferers of similar illnesses would really welcome a high profile person "coming out" with the same condition. It was very admirable for Angelina Jolie to share the details about her BRCA surgery or Selena Gomez talking about her kidney transplant as the result of Lupus. Unfortunately anything to do with poo or bowels is still considered taboo and many sufferers have to deal with the shame on top of their health issues.

One speculation that nobody has mentioned anywhere is the possibility she caught a superbug during the original planned surgery. Something like C-Diff or MRSA will absolutely wipe you out and can be extremely difficult to treat. It's also terrifyingly common and can hit anyone of any age. A friend works for the pharmaceutical industry with lots of contact to hospitals and he says his biggest fear is catching a superbug due to how shockingly prevalent yet treatment resistant they are. If you have the misfortune of catching one, it's like going back to the middle ages again.

Those posters bleating about Catherine being ‘our future queen’ seem to believe that she is a person of actual importance. She isn’t: her function was to produce heir and spare/s, which she has. Were she to be dead (which I don’t for a moment believe) or to divorce the PoW it would not make any difference to the succession or anything else, except at the personal level.

oh, and at 42, she can’t really be described as a’young’ woman any more. And if the PoW doesn’t want speculation, he could try being a bit less flaky. Dodging your reading at a godfather’s memorial service without a bloody good excuse isn’t a great look.

Edited

He may well have had a “bloody good excuse”. He just chose not to share it. And this wasn’t a work obligation . It was a private memorial service and he was invited by the Greek RF. I’m sure they knew why he wasn’t there as pp have said

edited as pressed post too soon by mistake 🙄😆

ChanelNo19EDT · 28/02/2024 21:06

Don't see anything strange to be analysed. Like a good few other posters, I think Kate and William want to revert back to the never complain, never explain era, and if they say ''personal reasons'' they mean IT'S PRIVATE and we have the right to privacy.

I wouldn't have expected anymore statements about Kate. If I set up an out of office, that's it, I've said when I'll be back.

I think the Monarchy is reaching its natural end. The late Queen kept it all together and had a profound sense of duty, and she brought stability to her reign.

The King is very well meaning but ineffectual in keeping his Royal descendants (and his errant brother A) in line. He is not very well himself although putting a brave face on things.

The current crop of H, W, K, M, and all the other alphabet soup in and out of the RF are a different breed now. There doesn't appear to be anyone steering the ship anymore. So rebels will peel off and do their own thing. Well if the King can't tell them to F off and do your duty, I suppose they can do their own thing if they wish.

I hope I'm wrong though, so we shall see.

I agree.

H&M were bullied out and now, slowly, everything they've said is being proven to be true (i.e. NYC car incident).

People don't care about Charles and Camilla - nobody is a fan of Camilla. W&K have the tide shifting against them. I think it's time for them to call it a day, if they have so much money they'll be fine

He has a history of having no discernible work ethic. It's part of the same picture.

In what way?

He served in the airforce, then trained and worked as a rescue helicopter pilot. He then had to stop that as he took on more Royal duties. He has a young family so it wouldn’t surprise me it was agreed he would do less engagements whilst the children were young. As a future King - should the monarchy continue - he doesn’t get to retire at 65-70, so I wouldn’t blame him carving out time for his family now. He didn’t have a great secure childhood, so would understand wanting to give that to his children.

Newsenmum · 28/02/2024 21:18

Ok so here’s my theory: Kate’s struggling with alcoholism. That’s why she was in hospital, that’s why she’s has some minor injuries (fingers), why she’s so tiny and copes with her issues with William. The kids are out of sight as it’s obviously very stressful that she’s ill and they can’t be discreet. Hope I'm wrong of course.

C&C are hugely popular as are W&K.

Harry wasn't 'bullied out' he flounced because he wasn't allowed to call the shots. Fixed that for you.

I understand people will speculate but this seems very harsh. She is slim, we see so many fat people nowadays it's as if folk are surprised when they see a slim person.

Struggling with alcoholism 🙄

The kids are out of sight because they're always out of sight beyond a couple of photos released on their birthdays, and big royal events. It's not surprising the children haven't been seen. It's not like normally George is chatting away to people and letting royal secrets out but now they've had to keep him quiet.

And even if they were being unusually kept out of sight (which they aren't), any illness of their mum's could be the reason for that. It wouldn't point to anything in particular.

I'd be a bit surprised. My feeling is that they wouldn't outright lie and say 'abdominal surgery' if it was something non-surgical. Too much risk of backlash if the truth did get out then.

Spotted with <whispers> plasters on. A sure sign of an alcoholic apparently.

But she chose this life, she was around long enough to know exactly what she was getting into

It probably looked all sparkly and lovely before marriage, but now the reality has hit and the marriage has evidently soured. I can see that her future is likely to be much improved by walking away and it would serve the rf absolutely right. I also think the public would be very supportive of that decision if she made it but of course it would be a nightmare for the institution.

and the marriage has evidently soured and you know this how exactly @ToffeeTalk ? 🙄

Nope. Don't agree with this. Charles and Camilla are far far more popular than they could ever have hoped if you go back a few years. As for Harry and Meghan - their popularity has sunk below rock bottom. All their own doing. Lol at bullied out. They flounced off in a huff because they didn't get their own way.

Bloody hell, reading this thread has convinced me the World has gone mad! What a crock of shite. You lot would have been sitting at the guillotine in times gone by with your knitting, scarves I believe they were making.

Yet another barmy thread to hide.

Gazelda · 28/02/2024 21:52

It's threads like this that give MN a bad name.

Speculating on the state and future of a woman's marriage, physical and mental health, appearance, family relationships, motivation for marriage, manners and more.

Embarrassing.

Bullied out ? Care to elaborate?
In Jan 2020 H and M made a grandiose statement about stepping back but continuing to collaborate with The Queen blah blah. When told no , they flounced off . When was the bullying ?
