I imagine this has been said already, but "I'd expect her to be functioning well 6 weeks after abdominal surgery - even serious surgery" - Are you a doctor? Are you her doctor?

Every woman everywhere (and indeed every man) will have the same surgery and the same recovery time and needs from every possible problem somewhere from their neck to their thighs will they? (Especially so because people say 'abdominal surgery' for a lot of things when they mean 'it's-none-of-your-business surgery', but you think you are entitled to know.)

Just mind your beeswax and leave the woman be to recover from whatever she's recovering from. Sheesh.

Why are so many of you determined for her to have Crohns and him to have the shits? Couldn’t they have more dignified ailments? (Lighthearted)

Having Crohns isn’t undignified.

I think the comments about him having D&V on the first thread were to deflate the exited frothing about whether Kate is secretly dead - pointing out it could be something much more prosaic.

Lanneederniere · 28/02/2024 20:03

The Establishment types who were my contemporaries at Oxford in the early 80s would laugh at the notion of believing what is put out by VIPs' 'official spokespeople', therefore I would defend the right of the doubters of the official line on this thread to challenge the received narrative, which has been remarkably brief.

treadingonlego · 28/02/2024 20:07

But she chose this life, she was around long enough to know exactly what she was getting into

Perspective and priorities change for a lot of women once they have children though.

Ger1atricMillennial · 28/02/2024 20:11

Surely it's because P. Andrew was front and center. I bet this was a last-minute decision forcing some strategic side stepping by PW.

I kind of am a bit sorry for them. 😕

Having done the lurid conspiracy theories, we are now getting the unflattering “squinty tired eye” close-ups.

Think I’ll move on …

It’s almost like you know each other. Chat around the water cooler type of thing.

Remarkably on the nothing to see here narrative, the unison is impressive.

Hughs · 28/02/2024 19:11

Really? You'd like foreign media to announce your death for your primary aged children to see?

What? That’s awful.

LadyCynthiaFitzmelton · 28/02/2024 20:27

I hear Kate is going into Celebrity Big Brother.

Yes I am a doctor, are you?

I'm not saying that Catherine should necessarily be back at work/in the gym ( although many would be), just that, on average at 6 weeks following open abdominal surgery, patients would be pretty mobile and able to keep an eye on the kids with the help of staff.

Hopefully she is and the Prince's personal issue was unrelated to Kate needing support.

I think the timelines of surgery, length of admission and recovery don't fit with the KP reports of 'doing really well.'

wishingyouwell · 28/02/2024 20:29

Can't believe so many believe the KP press release. It's bs.

wishingyouwell · 28/02/2024 20:30

They can literally say anything and majority lap it up. They must laugh so hard at us peasants.
Horrible to think of how stupid they must think we all are.

Hence the consistent brevity of the messaging; the less said, the less liability if/when the truth emerges.

Absolutely.

LaCasaBuenita · 28/02/2024 20:35

Amazing how many people will believe anything if it comes from an authority figure, even one a chronically unreliable as a ‘royal spokesperson’.

Zanatdy · 28/02/2024 20:36

I had a major abdominal surgery (whipple - removal of head of pancreas) which I was in hospital for 3wks for and I couldn’t even walk without my stick still at 8wks. I went back to work at 4 months but I wasn’t right still and I didn’t need to look my best for the worlds press. Let the woman recover, no-one knows what she went through. I ended up with major complications in first 2wks which delayed my surgery and if Kate was in hospital for 2wks I’d say it’s been something serious

I think the Monarchy is reaching its natural end. The late Queen kept it all together and had a profound sense of duty, and she brought stability to her reign.

The King is very well meaning but ineffectual in keeping his Royal descendants (and his errant brother A) in line. He is not very well himself although putting a brave face on things.

The current crop of H, W, K, M, and all the other alphabet soup in and out of the RF are a different breed now. There doesn't appear to be anyone steering the ship anymore. So rebels will peel off and do their own thing. Well if the King can't tell them to F off and do your duty, I suppose they can do their own thing if they wish.

I hope I'm wrong though, so we shall see.

Completely agree.
Poor comparative work ethic doesn't help either.

LlynTegid · 28/02/2024 20:46

I don't know the reason why the Prince of Wales was absent, any more than those who have commented on this thread before me.

Though if it was to avoid being in public in the same room as the Duke of York, I would not blame him one bit.

Can't believe so many believe the KP press release. It's bs.

If they wanted to bs us, they would have said William has covid or a stomach bug - something innocuous and everyday.

The statements on Kate don't raise any suspicions to me. I don't blame her for defending her privacy on medical matters - and if she's managed to keep a chronic illness like Crohn's or anything else quiet for this long then fair play.

The "personal matter" statement is the one that's weird and why interest has been stirred. It does seem like a PR misstep regardless of what's actually going on.

RegimentalSturgeon · 28/02/2024 20:52

Those posters bleating about Catherine being ‘our future queen’ seem to believe that she is a person of actual importance. She isn’t: her function was to produce heir and spare/s, which she has. Were she to be dead (which I don’t for a moment believe) or to divorce the PoW it would not make any difference to the succession or anything else, except at the personal level.

oh, and at 42, she can’t really be described as a’young’ woman any more. And if the PoW doesn’t want speculation, he could try being a bit less flaky. Dodging your reading at a godfather’s memorial service without a bloody good excuse isn’t a great look.

Exactly, nothing undignified about Crohn's. It's very common. The RF aren't immune from anything we commoners are. I don't know (or care) what it is anymore than anyone else does, but I do think shrouding it in mystery only makes people more curious and gives rise to threads like this.

Crispedia · 28/02/2024 21:00

He cancels at the last minute one thing for reasons we the public don’t know about and he is immediately called flaky. This is v judgemental.

It's a judgment based on William's previous form. You reap what you sow etc.

Edited

I completely agree about the Prince of Wales.
