The Palace just spark speculation like this with their secretive statements though.

If they'd just said something fairly cover all about each of these things, people would just say oh well, and move on with their lives. I don't know, (and I really don't know!) something like Kate is out for 3 months for a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. William can't come this morning because he has a minor illness/George has broken his arm playing rugby/whatever. People would just think 'ah well, these things happen' and move on!

There hasn't been half as much speculation over Charles.

I agree with this, but have some sympathy because, let's say George has broken his arm, as an example, they won't release that until W has got to him and he's been seen by medics. BUT W due to be reading at the service meant there was time pressure to say something^^ which when incomplete always creates speculation.

@Wishitsnows you gonna keep an eye out on what's what yeah?? Grin

Most likely one or more of the kids are sick at home and Kate isn't well enough yet to run after them.

You do know there’s an army of staff on hand to do literally anything needed, right?

Enough to get Charles, Camilla, William and Kate to four separate events at the same time.

If there's any threat to the Wales's DC then the nanny is the first line of defence - that's why Norland nannies are trained in martial arts, defensive driving and the rest of it and the DC know her and know they'll be safe with her - a very important consideration, I'd have said. The security will be who she'll call on if needed. Hence me saying if she's been called away for some reason PW might not want to be away as well, with PoW being unwell.

Anyway, all we're all doing is writing fictional scenarios. Could be any of them or nothing like them.

Dornana · 27/02/2024 13:30

It would have to be a very significant reason for him to pull out at the last minute from his godfather's memorial service where he was due to read a lesson. Otherwise it's not professional or thoughtful.

I suspect there is something more than we are being told about what is happening with William and Kate. I respect her right to medical privacy and we don't need to know the nature of her illness but I hope she is recovering well.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2024 13:31

@Codlingmoths "Huh? Your child has an accident or is sick, EVERY normal parent has to go get them. If you want to just not collect your child the school should be reporting you to child services."

Well, they arrange for someone to. These particular children have at least one nanny, other staff who help look after them. Grandparents. Other relations and presumably the usual contingent of school friends whose parents/nannies. William was attending a brief engagement close to home.

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 13:31

@SecondUsername4me It's not half term anymore.

Charlotte's forgotten her PE kit. We've all been there 😂

😂😂😂
Chasing the school bus and flagging the driver down so I could throw the bag on board!

SomersetTart · 27/02/2024 13:37

William's father is ill, his wife is ill, he has three young children.
His brother's buggered off.
If his father dies he will get a job he never applied for and had zero choice about.

I wouldn't be William for anything. I feel sorry for him.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 27/02/2024 13:38

If he had D&V, he probably wouldn't have been out driving. I'd say Windsor has its share of bathrooms.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/02/2024 13:39

Given the royal turn out for this event it’s got to be something serious going on somewhere as presumably if he was unwell they’d have said so.

i mean, there is an easy excuse for missing events for anyone nowadays - “sorry, I’ve tested positive for Covid” and your missing out of an event like that isn’t questioned.

Theres no chance he draw attention away from the memorial unnecessarily

SecondUsername4me · 27/02/2024 13:42

Are there any political emergencies he would be called upon to attend immediately? Might he have had to head to Buck Pal?

I was pondering that earlier. If it's something like this presumably they'll announce it tonight.

Quizine · 27/02/2024 13:45

Firstly I don't wish him any ill will, however the speculation here has helped me pass the time due to being trapped all day today waiting for my new sofa to arrive. I don't have to work and can't settle to do anything productive, so keep going.....

FWIW my theory is that he has just found out that his late Godfather left him bugger all in his will, and W is pissed off about it so refused to turn up. That's a personal matter innit?

ssd · 27/02/2024 13:46

They must know him pulling out with kate being recently in hospital will really worry people.

They should really say something to stop speculation.

Wishitsnows · 27/02/2024 13:47

There aren’t many press there but I guess the big names have pulled out! If there was something going on surely more would show up.

William just pulled out of event due to personal reasons

they did say that Catherine was continuing to recover well. So the implication there is that it’s not to do with her.

cyclamenqueen · 27/02/2024 13:48

i suspect something like noro which can come on very suddenly.

however it also wouldn't surprise me if he is struggling mentally, Kate has clearly has /had something quite serious , he lost his own mother as a child , whilst the circumstances are completely different it would not be surprising if it triggered feelings of fear about his children losing their mother and what that would look like, together with bringing back the trauma of his experience. They are also very much a double act, Kate has been widely credited with helping him to come to terms with becoming King , he may be facing the prospect of her health not being robust enough for her to fulfil this role . His father is ill, we don't know how ill, he has a useless uncle and a brother who has accused his wife of being a racist and is a complete loose cannon. i also feel a bit sad for him, it doesn't matter how much money you have they are still human beings with feelings and emotions .

I have said before that i think William will be the last king and that he will be happy with this .

I love that the nannies are Ninjas 😂

rainbowstardrops · 27/02/2024 13:48

Well he clearly hasn't got the shits, otherwise he'd have camped out in a Windsor bathroom surely!
It is a bit odd that it was reported that Kate continues to make a good recovery. But are they staying at Windsor right now? If so, then he wouldn't be driving away from there if it was something to do with her, unless it warrants a hospital visit.
If one of the kids are being sent home from school then there's a whole host of people that could stand in there. Unless again, it's something that might need hospital treatment.
Or it might be something political etc. I still find it odd that he bailed an hour before the service.
Who knows?!

he'll probably just follow them around for free now

Witchell's probably paying the BBC to be able to lurk in Sean Coughlan's slipstream.

Andrew was loving William's absence. He had jolly well worked out, within a right royal nanosecond, that he was now the highest-up-the-line-of-succession left attending, and strutted his stuff at the head of the pack like a puffed up bloated walrus on legs.

That is why I think it must be something fairly serious. That was obviously going to happen and is very undesirable.

Quizine · 27/02/2024 13:52

Were Eddie and Sophie there?

Norland nannies have extensive training in security and defence because they're very much in demand by royal and very wealthy families. Just imagine how fearsome Mary Poppins would be as a kick boxer
