If she's had to take some time off for some reason there might not be anyone with the children trained in defensive driving and security techniques. Royals and their close staff are and with PoW unwell, that might be why he's had to go back.

Well, this is ridiculous. They'll have plenty of spare cars, drivers and protection officers to get one of the children from A to B if needed.

Abra1t · 27/02/2024 13:16

It’s ok. Just seen Fergie going in.

cuckyplunt · 27/02/2024 13:17

That’s “personal” with a “p”.

Maybe mind our own beeswax???

Will they? how many do they have on duty at any given time?

BiggerBoat1 · 27/02/2024 13:18

One of the kids has cooking at school and forgot to tell them I reckon. He's nipped to Morrisons for cornflakes and cocoa powder.

Is it a dress up day tomorrow and they need costumes NOW, DADDY! 😁

Weirdly this is on the BBC lunchtime news now. I thought it was just MN reading something into nothing. I could still be nothing but surely BBC wouldn't be making anything of it. Although they have Sean on as royal correspondent and not Nicholas Witchell so maybe that's a clue that nothing is going on.

Didn't Witchell retire recently?

TokyoSushi · 27/02/2024 13:20

The Palace just spark speculation like this with their secretive statements though.

If they'd just said something fairly cover all about each of these things, people would just say oh well, and move on with their lives. I don't know, (and I really don't know!) something like Kate is out for 3 months for a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. William can't come this morning because he has a minor illness/George has broken his arm playing rugby/whatever. People would just think 'ah well, these things happen' and move on!

There hasn't been half as much speculation over Charles.

Eastie77Returns · 27/02/2024 13:21

Louis has pulled the fire alarm at school again and it’s time for a Parent - Teacher conference.

Enough to get Charles, Camilla, William and Kate to four separate events at the same time.

shufflestep · 27/02/2024 13:22

Slightly more mundane, but I wonder if he's struggling with his mental health at the moment. Maybe his father's illness, memories of his mother's death and obviously a fairly serious illness for his wife (and his children's mother) have made life hard right now?

FiveFoxes · 27/02/2024 13:22

GrouchyKiwi · 27/02/2024 13:19

Did he? I must have missed that. I think he was on when Charles had the cancer diagnosis.

newrubylane · 27/02/2024 13:23

This doesn't make a lot of sense. The family live on the Windsor estate, and Charles is currently on the estate too, according to the news story. The service was also being held on the estate, but he was leaving Windsor at 10 a.m., NOT heading home to his family, according to PP. So he's had to go else where for personal reasons. Not illness, and not a prior appointment or he wouldn't have pulled out so late. Some kind of last-minute high-level briefing he has to cover on behalf of his father? Is there something so urgent going on it couldn't have waited a couple of hours?

he'll probably just follow them around for free now

Absolutely this. Their PR professionals need sacking. Either that or there really is something going on that is too serious to lie about. I really don’t know either!

Who knows but it's quite ridiculous to suggest logistical problems such as a lack of childcare or anyone who can drive the children around. The royals are well taken care of...I don't doubt W&K are hands on parents. I'm sure they are but they're not tag teaming childcare duties.

Not many ‘normal’ parents can decide not to go to work because their child wants them at home.

Huh? Your child has an accident or is sick, EVERY normal parent has to go get them. If you want to just not collect your child the school should be reporting you to child services.

His Wiki says he announced in October that he'd be retiring "early in 2024" so maybe he has already, or maybe he's still working. I remember seeing something about it a couple of weeks ago. Maybe.

Grin

Seems likely.

upinaballoon · 27/02/2024 13:25

If he was unwell early this morning he might not have known how soon he would feel better. We rarely do. He was due to do a reading so he would need to let the others know asap. I can't remember who read it instead of him.

The Beeb reports that 'Queen Camilla lead...' instead of 'Queen Camilla led....'. Poor standard of English from the BBC nowadays.

Wishitsnows · 27/02/2024 12:53

@Kenthighst no idea if he looked stressed. Just sitting there. The police motorbikes stop anyone pulling out from side roads for him so he doesn’t have to stop which they don’t bother to do for Andrew 😂 But they made me wait to cross the road.

He gave way to me on a Norfolk country lane once. Perhaps I should think myself lucky!

Most likely one or more of the kids are sick at home and Kate isn't well enough yet to run after them.

🤣

Interesting. Unless Kate and the children are still at Sandringham for half term and he needs to rush there?

Then they would be ill which isn’t just because a child wants to be at home with Mum or Dad. Did you read what I wrote?
