I'm sad to say that I've been pretty disappointed in William not stepping up.
Sure, his wife is in recovery from a serious procedure.
His dad is newly diagnosed with cancer.
Both overwhelming in any family.
But this is not an 'ordinary' family.
Their overriding reason for being is to provide stability amongst the chaos.
I'm a royalist but they are failing badly.
I cannot imagine a scenario under our last monarch where she ever encouraged so much rumour and gossip.
It's not good optics for the future.
There's lots to be said of 'say nothing' but in todays world that vacuum will undoubtedly be filled.
Usually with lies and half truths.
I hope it's something innocuous.

Genuine question - how exactly does the RF provide stability? I'm absolutely, genuinely asking, because I just don't understand this train of thought. We're in the grip of a Cost Of Living Crisis. People are struggling to pay bills and put food on tables. How does the RF, with all of their conspicuous wealth, provide stability in this scenario?

Maybe he has the shits

Exactly my thoughts... says a lot for our gut bacteria 😂

Slightly more mundane, but I wonder if he's struggling with his mental health at the moment. Maybe his father's illness, memories of his mother's death and obviously a fairly serious illness for his wife (and his children's mother) have made life hard right now?

I thought this too. He has such a hectic schedule. He seems sensitive like his mum and more of an introvert than Harry . It must be difficult to have such a public facing role . He is the only working royal at the moment other than Camilla so must feel under pressure and I think he is looking tired.

Andrew was loving William's absence. He had jolly well worked out, within a right royal nanosecond, that he was now the highest-up-the-line-of-succession left attending, and strutted his stuff at the head of the pack like a puffed up bloated walrus on legs.

God did you see him all puffed up? Makes me sick. Him and Fergie looked like they were having their ' best day ever' despite attending a solemn occasion.
I would like to them William refused to attend because Andrew was going to be there. Not sure if he is that principled though.

I'm starting to think this could be the end of the RF as we know it. William and Kate don't really seem to have the appetite for it and I feel sorry for them if they don't.

Norland nannies have extensive training in security and defence because they're very much in demand by royal and very wealthy families. Just imagine how fearsome Mary Poppins would be as a kick boxer

that is amazing I had no idea that they were as hard as nails they should make that into a film 😄

Not many ‘normal’ parents can decide not to go to work because their child wants them at home.

He wasn't going to work, it's a personal family church service. Which is why Andy is able to go.

thefallen · 27/02/2024 13:56

Very very odd. The event is in Windsor, he could have popped in and done his reading and then left. Unless he personally is at death's door I think pulling out is very shabby. That said, he's notoriously work shy.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/02/2024 13:57

I did like the fact Andrew had to wait at the door to allow Princess Anne to go inside before him

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 13:57

I've been looking through the Fail photos (don't like the fail, but just can't find the same photo coverage elsewhere?).

I didn't see the Edinburghs.

Interesting that Q Sofia of Spain was sitting with the Greeks and not JC or her DC!

Most likely one or more of the kids are sick at home and Kate isn't well enough yet to run after them.

In which case, the nanny or her nurses or one of the other members of staff could step in and help for a couple of hours.

William is going to a shit king

Sadly I agree. He just cannot be arsed, can he?

That’ll be her attending as Constantine’s sister rather than the Queen of Spain.

nice touch.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2024 14:00

@Hadjab We need someone to look up to in our hour of need. Role models.

As are the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester

I love that the nannies are Ninjas 😂

Those hats aren't just ordinary hats, you know. They are Krav Maga hats.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2024 14:01

"He has such a hectic schedule."

William? Does he?

That’s because she is a Greek princess , sister of ex king Constantine

SecondUsername4me · 27/02/2024 14:06

King Charles arrived back at Clarence House today leaving Windsor before the service. Wonder why?

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 14:06

Sorry, typing briefly and multi tasking, yes, aware of her heritage, just interesting she was with them, or rather that her husband wasn't with her. (Again, aware they love separately, just surprised protocol didn't dictate a different seating plan).

Work shy maybe, he's not actually notorious for cancelling things very last minute when he is basically already there. And this wasn't a work thing really, but a personal one. He was going to be there as a godson as much as as a member of the RF.
You'd have to be spectacularly lazy and thoughtless to not go because you couldn't be arsed. And not just lazy and thoughtless, but very unaware of how it might look to drop out for no good reason.

Honestly I don’t think many of us would notice if they all ‘retired’

this is my thinking - I don’t think PW’s heart is in it. But he wouldn’t abdicate and land it on George. So this could be our best opportunity for reform. It’s such an anachronism, I would be embarrassed if I was William.

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 14:07

*LIVE separately! What a typo 😂

Marriage problems maybe?
