I'm sorry this needs to be said:

While everyone worries about "Where is Kate", the true question should be Where the hell is William.

Kate, at least, has an excuse. She's sick.

He's only had 3-4 engagements last week. This is way too low.

People are criticising Camilla for taking a break but she's old and has apparently been dealing with back issues for years.

Charles has cancer.

William, as the only senior royal currently available, needs to do more.

If it were anyone else, I would cut them some slack but given William's famous poor work ethic, I have to wonder if he's not using Kate's illness as an excuse not to work

There's no reason why Edward, who's 11th in the line of succession (I think?) is working more than William

Carole is clearly around. She can stay with Kate at home while the kids are at school and William can carry out engagements then.

I like K&W but I've always said that their work ethic is proof that they don't really care for the royal life like that. Of course, they love the privileges but don't want to do the work.

I've always said that I think William sees the life of his aristo friends and this is the life he truly wants. Rich, privileged but without the spotlight.

He also seems to hate the media (which is understandable given what happened to Diana) and seem to be a control freak regarding privacy, which is why I think this whole Kate saga has now been a PR disaster (although the media and Twitter hysteria has been ridiculous especially when they've told her when she'd be back from the very beginning but the way it was handled after that was messy), but William forgets he's not a private citizen.

This is exactly why I think the monarchy will crumble. I'm not particularly a monarchist but not a republican either but if you look at Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, yes they weren't the greatest parents but all their children seemed to have picked up their work ethic. We know how much of a workaholic Princess Anne is, carrying out multiple engagements in one day, Charles' numbers are extremely high and we know what he did with the Prince's Trust, Edward has always been one of the highest working members looking at the numbers and yes, even Andrew (Ugh). When he was a working member, he worked 2-3 times at more than William.

William is not sick. He's not old. He needs to do more

Do you like Stilton?

Can I ask, if you work do you look at your managers schedule and say 'You only had three meetings this week, that's way too low?' or your colleagues? you do realise that public engagements aren't the whole picture, don't you? same as the number of meetings your manager or your colleagues go to isn't an indication that that's ALL they do every day.

AlbertoDilemma · 06/03/2024 08:38

Don't go there, Mrs Danvers, we'll end up with the tedious, "He has eleventy billion staff and a cleaner and a nanny" discussion yet again. They must think he's Joe 90 or something, plugging himself in everyday for knowledge, no effort required.

You can't compare a regular person's job to royalty. It's not the same.

As the Queen famously said, you have to be seen to be believed.

I've said several times that I'm sure that they work behind the scenes but how are we supposed to know that? Their PR is horrible. They could easily release a photo once in a while of them working in a meeting or a short video giving an update on a future project but they don't which has created the narrative that they're lazy and don't do anything

Do you think they should promote local
cheeses?

Yeah, sorry. I posted this and then thought, I bet I get called a pearl clutcher or a genuflecting serf or whatever the insult du jour is from the book of Witty Ripostes That Aren't Really.

Back to cheese.

Shaun The Sheep Hello GIF by Aardman Animations

Such distinct teeth and smiles 😆

Love W&G - I’d even tug my forelock at gromit

AliceOlive · 06/03/2024 10:10

I bought the Wensleydale with cranberries yesterday! Haven’t tried it yet.

Also bought this abomination in the frozen section. TGI Fridays spinach dip. It was horrid and we threw it away. Peak American bad fake cheese chemical concoction. Inedible. Nor sure what I was thinking.

smilesy · 06/03/2024 13:03

I just had shrooms with melted emmental on toast for lunch. Is that wrong? 🤔

Turtlerussell · 06/03/2024 13:03

No, it’s very very right

AliceOlive · 06/03/2024 13:08

Sounds fantastic. Along with the avocado one someone mentioned recently

smilesy · 06/03/2024 13:13

It was very tasty. Nice chunky chestnut shrooms 😋. I’m following it up with a hot cross bun ( not a cheese one, although I have come across those previously)

Turtlerussell · 06/03/2024 13:32

I fancy one of those Waitrose lemon and white chocolate hot cross buns now…

Sometimes the posters who bang on about William's lack of (visible) work remind me of the posters who moan about people working from home or those who say it's taking the piss if you work from home and also go to the gym during the day, or look after your child, or take a nap.

There are loads of jobs which do not get measured by the hours you work. or isn't connected to a regular time of day. And loads of managers who are happy to let you run your own schedule as long as your output - as judged by them - is meeting goals - set by them.

Even if we set aside the fact that senior royals hold positions, not jobs, the 'boss' if we want to see it like that is the Monarch. All of the 'working' royals are doing royal duties to support the Monarch - in whichever way the Monarch wants to be supported.

The taxpayers get to decide if we want a constitutional monarchy or not. If we don't then we get to design a new version of head of state via our elected representatives.

Jobsworths are annoying! They remind me
of the little dog in the manger fable.

You've never had Wensleydale with cranberries?! You're in for a treat. Best cheese ever.

While everyone worries about "Where is Kate", the true question should be Where the hell is Wensleydale with pineapple????

AlbertoDilemma · 06/03/2024 22:14

You used to be able to get white stilton with apricot. Was lovely. Haven't seen it for years.
