I just read an article in the DM about this. I really honestly couldn't believe he would do this. I just hope it isn't true. Just how could he. Privacy????.

You are aware that a lot of the posters your airing your opinions to aren't white though ?

Harry has addressed all of those incidents directly and many times over.

He called his attitudes before he met MM bigoted and how he had to walk in MM’s shoes for a while to see how badly racist the reporting was in the press and of course incidents like the dj publishing a picture of a clothed baby chimpanzee and all of that hideousness.

He has also said on tv in relation to the Nazi uniform horror:

”It was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I felt so ashamed afterwards. All I wanted to do was make it right.
"I sat down and spoke to the Chief Rabbi in London, which had a profound impact on me. I went to Berlin and spoke to a Holocaust survivor.

"I could have just ignored it and got on and probably made the same mistakes over and over again in my life. But I learnt from that."

The point is; is the institution of the monarchy learning?

I haven’t watched the Colbert interview but any reference to ginger hair I’ve heard Harry make previously have been joking about himself in a disparaging way. And why shouldn’t he delight in his daughter having eyes which remind him of his mother? Wouldn’t anyone bereaved son be pleased about that whether they were white or black?

Ooh, so now you are questioning a person of colour on what is or is not racist and telling me I have to forgive Prince Harry for his past “incidents” (I see you minimising racism here) because he’s explained it. And then you want to lecture others about unconscious bias? Maybe start with yourself. If you want to live by critical race theory and concepts like unconscious bias, as Harry and Meghan do, then accept that glorifying in their children’s white heritage features is exactly that. If you want to be a reasonable person in the world, then accept that families talking about the colouring of current and future children is normal, not some great big racist conspiracy.

You seem to have a lot to say for someone who hasn’t watched all of their salient and infamous public appearances.

jeffgoldblum · 29/02/2024 12:09

And I have to say assuming that most posters are white as a default is rather presumptuous and insulting.

SheriffofRottingham · 29/02/2024 12:10

Exactly Claw, maybe focus instead on dissecting and calling out your own unconscious biases that you have as a white person. Instead of taking it upon yourself to lecture others who you don’t even know. Self reflection would be preferable to spreading false information about the security and title decisions being racially motivated. A claim you’ve repeated, despite all the evidence otherwise.

In fact it’s a symptom of white privilege, presuming the majority group is the same demographic and background.

He’s made a lot of mistakes in his life, hasn’t he? I wonder what else he’ll be ashamed of in years to come when the penny drops. Perhaps he could start by apologising to his school matron Pat who he humiliated publicly in Spare, for example #$$$

I said “us white folks” as a way of identifying white posters on this thread. Of course I wasn’t assuming everyone is white.

A longer way of putting it would have been

“those of us on here who are white”

Please report it if you think I have been racist.

Her father was quite wealthy, wasn't he? Maybe he invested in her education.

He did. He sent her to private schools, notably the Little Red Schoolhouse, and paid for her university education. He also helped her professionally when he was Lighting Director (I think that's the title) of a soap opera.

Oh no, I’m really happy for your posts to stand so everyone can read how muddled you are on the matter of racism and bias, let alone all the facts surrounding the many contradictory statements of the Sussexes.

This is a crock of lies because he wore his Nazi uniform in 2005 and called his colleague a p#ki and a r#ghead in 2009 - so he has made ‘mistakes’ since - also he has never refered to this incident or apologised personally for his racist behaviour.

They seem to have treated the staff very badly. And the way Harry casually mocks them when he knows they’ll never answer back. And all because they said no to him a couple of times.

I am sure that the staff will have signed NDAs, which means that they can't answer back. That agreement doesn't apply to H & M, though.

It’s really difficult to have an informed opinion about their claims if you never watched them talking about it.

It’s fascinating how the recent court documents continue to corroborate he bullies what he considers to be the ‘little people’. He certainly likes to throw his weight and title around! He’s so conceited, even for a royal.

Exactly. And constantly posting vague insinuations even after they’ve been demonstrated to be false. Ends up seeming like there’s an agenda…

Clawedfoot73 · 29/02/2024 11:22

Can I just say thank you to PropertyLover and Serenster who replied in a measured way and answered some of the questions surrounding racism, titles and security. I’ve never watched the Oprah interview so am happy to stand corrected on it.

I don’t make any apologies for straying off the main subject of a thread which stands at nearly 900 posts though.

I still believe that Meghan did encounter racism. And was far from wrong to raise the issue. Us white folk need to have more awareness about racism being very hard to pinpoint and prove.

I do believe that someone discussed Archie’s skin colour. If there was a deafening silence from them when the names were published; that’s because H has always been careful not to damage the main players who are in a protected bubble anyway. The silence in other words doesn’t necessarily mean it was untrue.

However much William protests and says “we are not a racist family” which I am willing to believe is true for him (in as much as any white person can claim that) there have been many incidents over the years which add up to offer a fairly good case for it.

Prince Philip telling the President of Nigeria that he looked like he was dressed for bed when he was wearing national costume, for example, that happened in the past twenty years I think! The slitty eyed comment, the Blackamoor broach, the history of only white people being employed in BP until the sixties, and that’s before we get to the issue of wealth and slavery

How would anyone feel if they were mixed race and marrying someone with that heritage? Of course you would be sensitive to the issue.

To take Prince Philip’s remark as an example. He was a product of his age and upbringing and he obviously interpreted his remark as a friendly ice breaker and well intentioned. And at the same time it was a very deeply offensive remark. That’s a classic example of unconscious bias.

Sadly it’s not unusual for anyone to have racist grandparents and hopefully things have improved - and what is relevant is the situation NOW - have BP lead an investigation in to potential racism within the institution? Would we know about the outcomes if they had?

How would anyone feel if they were mixed race and marrying someone with that heritage? Of course you would be sensitive to the issue.

“How would anyone feel if they were mixed race and marrying someone with that behaviour? Of course you would be sensitive to the issue.”

Fixed that for you. MM knew PH was a racist bigot - it was well documented in the global press.
