I just read an article in the DM about this. I really honestly couldn't believe he would do this. I just hope it isn't true. Just how could he. Privacy????.

Really? Because that’s definitely not coming across. A republican defending a spoilt Prince of Windsor and his titled wife. Makes sense 😉😂

Propertylover · 29/02/2024 12:48

@Clawedfoot73 I do believe that someone discussed Archie’s skin colour. If there was a deafening silence from them when the names were published; that’s because H has always been careful not to damage the main players who are in a protected bubble anyway. The silence in other words doesn’t necessarily mean it was untrue.

I don’t disagree there may have been a discussion about skin colour but context is an important element and no one, not even Meghan who wasn’t there, knows what was actually said.

Harry backpedaled in his interview to unconscious bias. The deafening silence following Endgame did damage the main players as it labelled the two named people as being racist family members.

Good @Clawedfoot73 , then please replace " those of us who are white"

With as a "white" poster this is my own opinion.

I am happy to learn from others but I will not specifically phrase things according to how you want me to phrase them thank you JeffGoldblum.

Unless Mumsnet tells me not to of course.

Again if you have a genuine concern that I was being racist, while pointing out incidents of racism within the RF, then please report me to Mumsnet Towers.

You are all free to criticise as much as you like. That’s what debate is about.

SheriffofRottingham · 29/02/2024 12:55

Oh no, I also want all your contradictions, faux naïveté, goal post shifting, projecting, goading and casual racism to stand 👍 sunlight is the best disinfectant 😉

jeffgoldblum · 29/02/2024 12:55

You can post whatever you want @Clawedfoot73 , however you don't speak for anyone but yourself and if you do you will be roundly criticised for doing so!

I agree with most of that actually! Context is everything and none of us know for sure how the issue was raised. The fact that it was raised at all might be considered a bit suspect though.

Given that is the case though, I don’t think the two main players were damaged that much tbh. There wasn’t much outrage in the press about those two specifically saying that. The reporting was more focused on how their names came to be exposed in The Netherlands of I recall.

Oooh! I’m shivering in my boots!

This makes me laugh tbh because I am roundly criticised all the time for daring to hold a Republic viewpoint.

We should all be good little subjects don’t you know and never challenge the status quo. 😃

jeffgoldblum · 29/02/2024 13:03

🙄

Propertylover · 29/02/2024 13:07

@Clawedfoot73 because most sensible people worked out Meghan had been disingenuous conflating several issues to give a factually inaccurate impression to Oprah.

That is why the deafening silence from H & M has been so damaging to them as it confirms in the Oprah interview they misrepresented a lot of things.

Clawedfoot73 · 29/02/2024 13:07

Enjoyed the discussion, the measured bits anyway!

Have a lovely evening everyone! 👋😃

Edited

Yes I see that is one viewpoint. I think H&M were in a difficult position though because given all the hyperbole and overwhelming interest in the press, if they had said something, it probably would have made matters worse for the named people. As it happened, the discussion fizzled out.

<sorry have to go to see a man about a dog>

Propertylover · 29/02/2024 13:38

@Clawedfoot73 The discussion hasn’t fizzled out as some posters are still talking about security and titles being linked to racism.

H & M were in a difficult position of their own making as how else did .Scobie get the names?

Porkfest · 29/02/2024 13:48

Clawedfoot73 · 29/02/2024 12:42

So I am not allowed to speak on anyone else’s behalf … but it’s ok to “fix” other people’s posts.

OK! 😀

Yes it is OK to add the actual evidence and cast iron facts to a post when they have been omitted.

Clawedfoot73 · 29/02/2024 12:45

Of course I have an agenda! A Republican one!
I have never hidden it.

How do you square your republican agenda with H&M insisting on using their royal titles and choosing to use those for their children?

Daisyislazy · 29/02/2024 14:03

The thing I can't understand is that Harry, a well educated man, didn't know why wearing a nazi uniform would be so offensive. I'm sure most people wouldn't need to go to a Rabbi to understand that

And using his inherited privilege to get special treatment from RAVEC? And to get away with breaking immigration laws? Surely he’s the very poster boy for why privilege is wrong?!

LolaSmiles · 29/02/2024 14:13

The thing I can't understand is that Harry, a well educated man, didn't know why wearing a nazi uniform would be so offensive. I'm sure most people wouldn't need to go to a Rabbi to understand that

I suspect he did know it would be inappropriate and offensive.

I remember encountering some very privileged young men during university and they were intelligent men, but had a sense of entitlement where they knew some of their humour and behaviour was offensive. They just didn't care.

Think about the behaviour of the Bullingdon Club men. They weren't stupid. They knew vandalising restaurants and causing criminal damage wasn't acceptable. They just didn't care.

It's a level of entitlement in some sections of society where they know they don't have to care. Their privileges and networks will keep them protected and their friends feel the same.

This is unfortunately very true

AliceOlive · 29/02/2024 14:34

I agree, too. I do think it’s time to put that all in the past. I don’t think Harry is ever mean or disrespectful on purpose.

But I wish he’d afford others the same consideration and I’m sure his unwillingness to do so is why his own mistakes are constantly rehashed.

The way some people can't accept any questions or criticisms about the royals, is more in line with North Korea than a free country. Prince Andrew and Edward look nothing like Charles and Anne. The respected writer Nigel Dempster wrote in his book Behind Palace Doors in the early 90s, that when Andrew was born Palace staff called him the love child, as Queen & Philip hadn't shared a bedroom for 10 years. Nigel was trying to make out that they had got back together, but when you look at photos of Andrew compared to Lord Porchester, Andrew looks more like Porchester than Philip. Andrew even has Porchester's green eyes. Same as how Edward looks like Baron Plunket, with his normal nose, without the inbred rat faces and too close together eyes of Charles and Anne.
Also why are they calling themselves Mountbatten? That was the name of the uncle who changed their name from Battenberg to sound less German, who gave Philip asylum in Britain, after Philip spent most of his life living in France off rich relatives. Philip's mother never changed her maiden name from Battenberg, and not many men would use their mother's maiden name for their children in those days.

The fact you just posted this proves it’s not at all like N Korea 😂

You might want to start your own thread about the bloodlines (which you seem to know an awful lot about considering you dislike them all so much). As you’re just derailing this one 😃

MN don’t care for it when we say these threads are extremely nasty if we say it on another thread.

I think we are allowed to say it here though. This is nasty.

Serenster · 01/03/2024 12:05

Philip's mother never changed her maiden name from Battenberg, and not many men would use their mother's maiden name for their children in those days.

Philip’s mother was Princess Alice of Battenberg. It was her title, not her surname. In the same way that his grandmother was Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. “Hesse and By Rhine” was not her surname either.

It’s the same as Harry and William calling themselves Wales as a make-do surname at school and int he army - because at that stage their titles were “Prince William/Harry of Wales”.But their surname was Mountbatten Windsor.

jeffgoldblum · 01/03/2024 12:06

Many thanks @Serenster , for yet another calm , measured and factual post 👏
