So I see there is a brand-new Duke and Duchess of Sussex website. Very glossy.

But the self-aggrandising! I just read Meghan’s bio and - cringe - it was the worst of LinkedIn. Sometimes less is more!

Because it's very important to them to still be royal, @MorningSunshineSparkles . They'll never have those titles removed, and note how clear they are about the Prince and Princess titles for their children.
It's their selling point as they forge this strange celeb/royal lifestyle.

MrsLeonFarrell · 13/02/2024 09:31

I'm confused as to what they are trying to achieve with yet another re branding. It does come across as being unable to stick to anything for very long. They have released a series of statements on current issues and have partnered with a variety of small charities on projects the charities ran but I haven't seen much evidence of them committing to a project long term.

The exception is Invictus of course and I think if they took time to really think about it they would see that focusing on a few things will bring them far more satisfaction in the long run than constantly trying bits and pieces of whatever is currently newsworthy. Invictus is successful because it is established whereas topical statements/donations from Archwell get lost as the news cycle moves on.

If I was going to give one bit of advice it would be to stop with the grandiose profiles and focus on specific actions in support of a few projects they can be passionate about for at least a decade. The impression given at the moment is that all they produce is words, following the Invictus model in a couple of other areas would produce actual real world results they can be proud of.

Tiddlywinks63 · 13/02/2024 09:34

It smacks of desperation; they’re driven to self-aggrandisement because there’s little else left to grab attention and I suppose any attention is better than none for these two. A desperate attempt to monetarise their names. Again.
It just makes them a laughing stock to many and their fans will lap it all up.

4YellowDaffodils · 13/02/2024 09:34

The Royal connection is the only thing that makes them vaguely interesting to whatever market they are going for. The US is filled to the brim with philanthropists who do real good. They don't really have the money (billions are required) the personalities or the drive (in PH's case) to properly succeed in that world. MM has drive- plenty of it- but it's really a drive to promote herself, I feel. Their only real skill is pissing people off by being petulant, tone deaf and thin skinned.

That's how i view them, anyway.

‘Compassion through action’

except in regards to their own families.

And they do like their titles.

Such a shame as I think they could have gone about it so differently.

What @WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout said. My teens all have more emotional maturity than this pair.

Mumsnut · 13/02/2024 09:34

One thing’s for sure: there needs to be an end to the tradition of handing out royal dukedoms on marriage as a reward for a lifetime of FUTURE service.

Viviennemary · 13/02/2024 09:35

Looks like they are just going to be more embarrassing as the years go by. Can't believe they've done this when King Charles is ill and has enough on his plate without this nonsense.

I think that's why they've done it now. Charles and William are obviously a bit distracted.

I think so too, they have seen a 'gap' in the lucrative Royal Market and are trying to nudge their way back in to get a piece of the pie.

If this is genuinely the motivation, it’s terrible thinking about it.

Honestly, if I say what I really, really want to say I will get banned. Most of you do not talk to family for less and also let us remember that all that u know is from newspapers that are apparently trash unless they talk about these two, who, by the way, don’t say anything to anyone and literally moved to the other side of the world to get away. We may never know the truth but the way some of u are on here is fascinating and truly sad. The energy that some of u invest in people you claim not to like is mad to me…

CoffeeCantata · 13/02/2024 09:44

I really wish the Americans would start to call them out on their reliance on titles which are utterly meaningless there (in a 250-year old republic which fought a war of independence against the British crown). Meaningless, tactless and tone-deaf in that context, I would argue.

I know some American big-shot (can't remember who...sorry) did sneer at PH when he tried to play the 'I'm an important royal person' card a while back, saying that the US ditched all the royal stuff in 1776.

I'm a (mild, unfrothing, non-souvenir collecting) royalist, but I really think you can only be 'royal' in a monarchist constitution.

Please, America - stop pandering to their self-importance!

RhubarbGingerJam · 13/02/2024 09:45

I watched Beneath The Crown: The True Story of Prince Charles and The Prince's Trust | Netflix on you tube- it's quite the contrast with this starting small and building up.

I can see why they are doing this- they need the links with the Royals to stand out - and the RF lack of response to them is making those look less and less relevant. Plus site may play better to USA audience than a UK one - and it's obvious USA market is all they care about.

caringcarer · 13/02/2024 09:49

I thought they were not supposed to use stuff like coronet/coat of arms for commercial gain. I thought the late Queen Elizabeth stopped them when they wanted to use Sussex Royal. I hate that they wait until King Charles is sick with cancer before pulling this stunt. The coronet needs to be taken away from them along with coat of arms and Sussex titles. Mr & Mrs Grifter could be their new name.

Trying to put themselves into a position where taking away their royal titles would be very obviously 'devastating' (emotionally and to their means of earning a living) and would make them VICTIMS again if anyone tried it.

Victims.

Anyone remember the South Park episode where they rebrand, and their CV lists of qualities all include 'victim'?

On the plus side (for H&M) they have out-South Parked South Park and have placed themselves beyond parody.

caringcarer · 13/02/2024 10:03

Spectre8 · 13/02/2024 08:41

See they cant win, if there titles aren't taken away people complain, if they tskr it away people complain.

Nope, I'd be happy to see their Sussex titles taken away. A recent poll showed 92 percent wanted Sussex titles taken away. Harry will always be a Prince but She'd be Princess Henry. I wonder if self proclaimed feminist Meghan would use that title? King Charles probably won't do it but I wouldn't be surprised if William did it once he's the King.

Vespanest · 13/02/2024 10:04

I do understand their timing as they realistically only have a decade window to create a generational wealth fortune and have already wasted too much time. As soon as the Wales children begin dating and doing royal duties they become the Andrew (before his actions were known) and Edward, lesser royals without much relevance. They ideally need a foundation creating a wealth large enough to cover their costs whilst still give a large percentage to charitable causes, whilst building their own version of a duchy.

Ironic you say that "all that u know is from newspapers" on a thread set up to discuss material that comes directly from H&M.

willWillSmithsmith · 13/02/2024 10:07

They really are shameless aren’t they! They both seem to lack an embarrassment gene.

They’ve really made a pig’s ear out of their ‘bid for freedom’, they’re a cross between slapstick comedy and cringe comedy.

They had a good option when leaving the RF. Leave but on good terms so you can have your freedom and retain friendly links to the RF, therefore keeping some reflected ‘fairy dust’ without all the negativity. Work hard, be genuine, don’t grift, which will earn people’s respect in return.

I honestly can’t see what they’ve gained by choosing the road they’ve gone down.

MaturingCheeseball · 13/02/2024 10:09

I really think they need to go down The Osbournes route or any other reality family thing. They need to make money and I can’t see what else they have to offer except the chance to let us all gawp at them. Supporters will love it and those with a sense of humour will find no better material.

Itsybitsy - I don't think any of us would be giving them a micron of headspace if they'd just gone off to live a quiet private life. That's the whole issue!! They are pompous, self-important, lacking in self-awareness and constantly seeking attention and publicity. It seems to me that Meghan in particular would actually wither and die like a plant if she didn't have constant validation from publicity and attention.

So it's daft to wonder why people take an interest. I think they've been unforgivably cruel and vengeful towards their families, and made the UK look bad internationally for reasons which they later tried to backtrack on - but mud sticks and the damage is done. These aren't minor things, and H & M's wish to be seen as saviours, heros, philanthropists and generally good people really, really irritates many of us.

And, added to that...they are mighty funny in their pretentious posing and the ridiculous stuff they put out, as exemplified on this website. I'm prepared to leave the alone when they stop seeking attention so manically.

MaturingCheeseball · 13/02/2024 10:11

@CoffeeCantata - so well put. How can anyone say they are not pompous?!

This really sums their situation up. Harry and Meghan seem obsessed with the idea that the public were manipulated into disliking them by an evil, lying press - when in reality, the things that have made them so deeply unpopular have come from their own mouths!

Got it.

I don't know why I'm surprised that they're using American spellings. I guess because the whole thing is branded on their British titles.
