New Sussex website

So I see there is a brand-new Duke and Duchess of Sussex website. Very glossy.

But the self-aggrandising! I just read Meghan’s bio and - cringe - it was the worst of LinkedIn. Sometimes less is more!

Indeed @Prydddan , however mine was an homage to a previous posters post.

Oh dear. It would appear that the Robert F Kennedy award that Meghan so proudly lists on her bio is from someone just like them… who is taking advantage of his family name for personal gain. Sounds like the Kennedy Family want nothing to do with him. I wonder why he could possible have picked MM for an award, could it have been to boost his own publicity? What with Harry being pictured with the German “prince” at another made up awards ceremony, you’d think they’d be a bit more careful about who they associate with. This doesn’t look good at all.

Um. You're aware that Robert F Kennedy (a noted humanitarian who was assassinated in 1968) and Robert F Kennedy Junior are not the same person, right? There's a little hint at the end of the name.

The award they won is for celebrities and public figures (and not as prestigious as the RFK Humanitarian award). Taylor Swift, Wyclef Jean, Bono and George Clooney have also won the celeb version.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 13/02/2024 15:00

They could have gone to live in New Zealand in 2020, done Rest of World engagements, Commonwealth and Invictus.

Not in 2020 they couldn't. New Zealand wasn't letting anyone in or out, as I recall.

(And would NZ have wanted them? Canada didn't.)

Nice one @Prydddan

  1. Flounce and announce - that's me out, I'm leaving the thread. You are all deranged

It’s a real pity, this website. I’d thought that Harry rushing back even for a flying visit to see his dad, meant that he cared about him more (I don’t doubt he does) and would’ve also met and made peace with William. Now, if William sees this website he’ll be put off them again. Charles won’t care as I don’t think he’s bothered about websites and PR/comms.

The whole website stinks of narcissism though, and seems to be either steered by Meghan or by both of them but I fear she’s controlling Harry more. It’s basically another nail in the coffin towards a reconciliation with them and the RF.

And I know some posters will leap on this and scream that anyone who dislikes, criticises Meghan and Harry are racist but it’s not like that at all. H&M are very good spin doctors.

I'm in bed today so I have time on my hand and looked up Suits credit sequences. I did watch a few episodes a while ago but couldn't remember them.

Anyway 3 men then Meghan's name but no image arrives with Sarah Rafferty's name appearing before her name goes then "and Gina Torres".

If you want to talk status Gina wins because she has an "and". From my viewing I think all three got about equal screen time depending on the storyline.

But having said that, for Meghan to have been an above the credits actress in a tv programme that ran for that many seasons makes her hugely successful. Most actors never get a tv show at all, I liked listening to rewatch podcasts and almost every actor I've heard emphasises how lucky they were to be in a show that makes it out of the pilot stage.

I think it's unfair to say she wasn't successful, she wasn't an A list star true but she did really well in a tough career.

I still find the website odd, I'm not outraged by it but do wish there was somewhere to discuss how celebrities and royals present themselves without having to pick a team.

NZ might not be too pleased to hear it's considered as some sort of dumping ground for disgruntled royals!

Not that they'd have wanted to live there anyway. They/she always wanted California and the celeb lifestyle. NZ would not be glamorous enough for them.

Equity means being fair. We use it at school to explain there are students at school with additional needs that do need to be treated differently, in order for them to have an equal playing field.

What would people on here have preferred re names?
Had they decided to rebrand entirely and gone to
Henry and Rachel Mountbatten-Windsor

or Harry and Meghan Windsor

they'd have been slaughtered in the press.
Harry isn't wrong when he says
And what difference would it make?
regarding giving up the titles. They're damned either way.

Meghan was not seen doing anything for months. But her name sells papers hence the Mail having a whole section on them.
Andrew's still Prince Andrew despite all he's done (and the latest mini series about that interview).

It is a shame. They were an asset. They were popular before being briefed against. Dan Wooton absolutely knew Callum Stephens and his partner Christian Jones. The Cambridges were never that naive.

Why do they need a brand though? If you crave privacy, why do you need a public persona?

And it's meaningless to call your children Prince and Princess when they've barely been to the UK.

One of my DM's neighbours has had a successful career in the performing arts all his life. You won't have heard of him, he has never starred in anything. But until COVID he was continually employed in West End shows, local theatres, adverts etc. He is finally building this up again and moving more into directing - again, small scale and unglamorous productions, but they pay the bills, bring pleasure to people, and he loves his job. There is nothing 'degrading' about it. He would 'degrade' himself if he tried to pretend that it was more glamorous than it is, but he doesn't. He simply earns a living in an industry he loves.

Why are you sneering at that?

I'm not.

You questioned why it wasn't put on this website. I said it is her choice. You don't seem to accept that.

“Meghan is a major advocate for…”

Major 😂… hilarious. The only thing she’s a major advocate for is herself.

Is this just a typo and should read "Meghan is a major avocado fan"?

I wonder what the good people of East and West Sussex think about their home land being co-opted via “Sussex.com” by two people living and working in California and hoping to use the name for the personal gain.

It would be a bit like me starting a website called santabarbara.com, for my livery/dish soap making/whatever else business portfolio in Gloucester.

i don't mind

SirChenjins · 13/02/2024 15:10

They’re living up to their Southpark brand, that’s for sure.

Dress code casual, but don't forget the titles - according to the BBC. Bullseye 😂

Gottseidank · 13/02/2024 15:12

Even the Independent finds them ridiculous now.

Here’s a snippet:

The pages related to the Archwell activities – or “Arentchawelloff”, as Private Eye styles them – are notably bare. What you do get is endless supposedly life-affirming mottos, like you get on greetings cards or on those signs you’re supposed to hang up in the kitchen, words that sound profound but in fact are either meaningless or sadly untrue, such as: “Each of us can change our communities. All of us can change the world.”

Much like Harry and Meghan, Sussex.com needs to work a bit harder

If the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are ever to support themselves without financial help from the royals that made them famous, will their new-look website help? Not from what I’ve seen, says Sean O’Grady

I'm not.

You questioned why it wasn't put on this website. I said it is her choice. You don't seem to accept that.

I questioned why she included the internship (presumably appears high status) when she didn't include the advert (presumably appears low status).

Personally I think the advert has more credibility (very competitive, doing the grunt work to break into the industry) than the internship.

I think it sheds light on the image she is choosing to portray (or try to portray), as does the wording of her biog on the new website. It seems to me that - rather than celebrating her hard work and determination - she sees it as somehow embarrassing. That there is a disconnect between the persona she is putting forward and the person she is.

Everyone can choose what they would like to put in a CV or on Linkedin. You don't own Meghan. She can choose to leave that out if she so wishes. It's her choice. Not yours.
To me, I imagine it's you trying to degrade her in some way, whilst she was aiming to become an actress in a cut throat business. It doesn't show you in a good light particularly. I admire her for achieving that role in Suits and earning acclaim and very good money. Everyone has to start somewhere.

It would just be an endless source of ridicule for you anyway.

Everyone is entitled to say what they want regardless of what you think about it. Because someone has a different opinion from you it doesn't entitle you to talk about the fact that the poster is not showing themself a good light. It is not your place to comment on someone's character because their opinion differs from yours.
