New Sussex website

So I see there is a brand-new Duke and Duchess of Sussex website. Very glossy.

But the self-aggrandising! I just read Meghan’s bio and - cringe - it was the worst of LinkedIn. Sometimes less is more!

'Full Alan Partridge' is a great way of putting it 😂

Though, to be fair, they are obviously aiming at the American audience, where you are expected to upsell yourself.

Though listing a short under-grad internship when you are in your 40s is a bit odd.

Unless it is something exceptional and the result of winning a prestigious award in a national competition, or something along those lines. Buy even then, you'd list the award...? 🤔

I won a 'best undergrad in this subject this year' at my uni - I don't list it on my CV😂

Actually, now I think about it I got a £20 book voucher for the best results in A-level General Knowledge in 6th form. Perhaps if I had included that on my CV my career would have been very different...!

I am retired now but clearly I missed a trick when applying for jobs . For instance I never mentioned I was school long jump champion in 1973 nor did I mention I won a couple of beauty competitions ( remember them?) in the 1970s.
Ah things could have been so different .

I agree that the website’s layout is fine, it’s the bios that are poorly written. I’m genuinely surprised that they were approved and presumably paid for. That's why I asked upthread whether this website was even genuine.

They’re marketing themselves for motivational speaking gigs, which is fine in itself, but they need to hire an editor.

Yes it's like they skimped at last bit or thought they had skills to do a professionals job. It probably plays better to USA eyes due to cultural differences in selling oneself.

I'm also surprised that narrative they were forced out is still being raise - I think it clear with their actions last few years they were never going to be happy with RF limitations.

What did you expect? This is a woman who based an entire podcast series on the fact that she thought the word "archetypes" meant "stereotypes".

Neither of them are the brightest bulbs but for some reason they're both think they're God's gift to the universe and we're blessed by their very presence.

@wobbledobbleflobble2

I didn’t know that, oh dear!

Honestly, if you’re not great with language, hire someone who is.

Not everyone is beyond outraged you know. Yes, there are flaws with their website but it really isn't the crime of the century

Most people are beyond outraged by their self-aggrandizing website, @Roussette

You always pop up to defend the pair of them on threads like these.

Nobody said that the website was the "crime of the century" but it does demonstrate, yet again, how tone-deaf H & M are.

Especially when the King could currently benefit from more support and less embarrassing hyperbole from the Sussexes.

How strange you monitor my posting history. Odd.

I avoid quite a few threads actually, not that it's any of your concern where and when I post.

Yes, some people are beyond outraged.
Personally, I'm not.
Yes, website could do with some tweaking but that's it really.

wildernesssw · 13/02/2024 14:22

This doesn't surprise me at all @Mylovelygreendress , I always sensed you had hidden depths. I am intuitive like that...

Enjoying a laugh is quite normal, and thankfully we have a range of comedians to watch and discuss!

Also, by "equity" does she mean "equality"?

FruitEatingBird · 13/02/2024 14:27

Seems with these bios they are trying to create gravitas. True gravitas though speaks for itself, it doesn't need to pitch. Can you imagine Michelle Obama putting out a bio including where she interned before law school? Or what volunteer projects she was involved in early in her law career?

I work for a law firm and the first half of the bio reads like a CV from for a training contract.

I can't think who is advising them on this stuff.

There's nothing normal about Royalists @wildernesssw

Anti-Royalist's like myself don't care about these two, least of all their latest website.

My money doesn't fund their lifestyle, so they can do whatever, The rest of them, that's a whole different story....

Good point . Wonder how the people of Sussex feel having their area hijacked by 2 grifters .

They don't like it 😂

Save Bill Gates GIF by Feliks Tomasz Konczakowski

Meghan's let her real self show there 😂

Decent enough website.
Not sure what the issue is.
Still think the whole thing could have worked out differently.
They could have gone to live in New Zealand in 2020, done Rest of World engagements, Commonwealth and Invictus.
Saved themselves from the infighting and tabloid bullshit here and relations would have stayed intact.
It was a mistake to force them out.
Oh and Meghan did star in Suits. For crying out loud, she was the main female lead.

Oh dear , I'm sure the other female cast leaders will be delighted to hear this!!

@NoCloudsAllowed

I wish you'd start a thread on the RF boards with that as your OP. It would be an interesting discussion in all sorts of ways.

Ha ha, you're welcome to copy and paste to do so yourself!

Most royals and aristocracy have huge wealth based on landed estates stolen by some baron at some point in the distant past, which creates wealth. Or massive funds created hundreds of years ago (don't mention slavery and empire, whatever you do).

The upper echelons just waft along on inherited wealth, a bit of charity work is tax efficient and raises their profile, makes them feel good about themselves.

Harry has cut himself off from this. He actually needs to earn a living but the only thing he knows how to do is the charity window dressing. Sure, he's got a lot of money but security and fancy houses cost a lot too.

However the money side of things is taboo because you do not mention money (most of it was dirty money at one time or another). So he's got to somehow earn a lot of money without seeming to do so. He does not have the brains or the instinct to do this, and to be fair his opportunities of doing anything like a normal person are pretty much nil.

If he'd married a less ambitious person, he could have disowned royal role, kept a wodge of cash, swanned off to run a wildlife reserve or something and been perfectly happy.

mrsmingleton · 13/02/2024 14:33

Roussette · 13/02/2024 14:00

Totally agree. They could've been an asset but they were forced out. H&M made mistakes too but it was a leaking press (Wootton) and knee jerk reactions on both sides.
Unfortunately, it reflects very badly on the RF

Of course Meghan starred in Suits and of course she wasn't the only star!

They were not forced out - it was their choice. Their subsequent behaviour confirms that the Queen was right to say No thanks.

mrsmingleton · 13/02/2024 14:36

Mylovelygreendress · 13/02/2024 10:21

One of their “ camp” is hitting back saying that Sussex is their family name so they can use it . I thought the family name was Mountbatten- Windsor ?
Maybe not the same cache !

It's ludicrous - Sussex is not their family name. Harry was not Harry Sussex at school !

wobbledobbleflobble2 · 13/02/2024 14:36

"Oh and Meghan did star in Suits. For crying out loud, she was the main female lead."

Nope. She was very definitely not the main female lead.

Interestingly, after googling, Meghan seems to have been promoted after becoming a duchess!!!
Congratulations!
To see a before cast list is now very difficult!

RhubarbGingerJam · 13/02/2024 14:38

Oh and Meghan did star in Suits. For crying out loud, she was the main female lead.

I watched suits on Dave first few seasons well before she met Harry thought Meghan was good in it - but she wasn't the main female lead - at least didn't appear so when I watched it.

It's like when I read that everyone in UK will have seen suits as it was so big - it was aired on Dave a digital channel - not sure everyone in UK has access to at that point - known for it's relatively low audience figures at time.

It's success now is down to her much higher profile - as it was an okay drama watchable but that was about it.

jeffgoldblum · 13/02/2024 14:40

Mock the week used to continuously take the piss about their re run's appearing on Dave! 🤣 @RhubarbGingerJam
